Physics on Khan Academy: Physics is the study of the basic principles that govern the physical world around us. We'll start by looking at motion itself. Then, we'll learn about forces, momentum, energy, and other concepts in lots of different physical situations. To get the most out of physics, you'll need a solid understanding of algebra and a basic understanding of trigonometry.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

I came on to this video just to say that you are a really, like, REALLY REALLY GOOD TEACHER, and I even went onto khan academy website just to learn more about you, because I have watched pretty much every khan academy physics video that features you, and I always feel like i really understand what's going on and WHY. And I especially love when you say "and if you're clever, you would have noticed this" and then explain why that line of thinking is wrong or right, and i love how you get in the minds of students like that. I also came onto THIS video specifically, because I love proofs. and I thought that this was a really awesome proof that made me smile so much man, makes me love physics, it's so awesome how mgb cancelled out at the end, it was just magical man. sincerely, a civil engineering student :)

Oh my god man. I am the person that made this video and just happened to stumble upon this comment. Holy crap, thanks! You (or at least you 4 years ago) just made my day. So glad you enjoyed these videos, and humbled that I could be of any help whatsoever. Hope you're doing well. Cheers!!

@@cameronledoux95 Friction is a non- conservative force . and Energy conservation is only valid when work is only done by conservative forces

Hi, what would happen if the spring was stretched so that b > a, would the spring go up and then be compressed (increasing GPE and EP) or would it no longer be SHM (force not proportional to displacement)?

Lol people its because the gravitational force has already defined what the point of equilibrium is. So when you use the system of equations without having to adjust for gravity, it is because it is already accounted for
