update: Filmed at Bennet Rd in Bowmanville, Ontario Canada. And yes the train was going 68mph. This track section is set for 60 and most trains fly thru here. This one looked particularly fast.
I had to jump away from camera when this thing was coming!
Oh and when it hit detector it was doing 68 MPH

@@sawomirmiszczak134 Nope. Many cities require that trains don't exceed 50kmh when they run now. When I was a kid they used to run 110kmh through cities. It's kind of like the air horn, many cities only allow the bell at crossings.

capnskiddies - Plus this doesn’t seem like a residential area no schools or houses nearby so the track is probably pretty flat and straight for quite a few miles bumping up the speed limit to about 60/70mph. It’s mostly normal for freights to blow through rural areas like that especially when the ride is long and the train is longer. It’s funny when a freight has to slow down to 10-20mph while passing a school absolutely destroying its horn the whole time, it gets you out of a class for about fifteen minutes though. Or when they have to stop on the track (back up, go forward repeatX20) probably for loading/unloading but idk I don’t work with freights. I just live near the track, not near enough that the train must slow down at all to pass though, loud as fuk at midnight hearing the giant metal clangs from the track, and in town there’s a three lane split where I assume they stop and pass since there are no clear stations near the area. Also have a story about how near the last few days of school a Passenger/Freight mix crashed due to flooding of the tracks and the train was so long that the wreckage nearly blocked up the bus route to my house and definitely blocked up a large portion of the rest of the route.(I live in a separate section of a city to the city of the school that I go to. (live in a mostly rural area with a few houses.) Train spanned a whole two cities). I wonder if this section of KZfaq is dead or if people are still here and no one comments anymore.

Even TOUCHED a detailment. Our fire department did. Our chief ran into the lake. Got stuck in the mud. My buddy was chased. #1 Engine passed #2 &3 plus 6 grain cars went on there side. He thought he was dead about 1000 ft. Away. At the debrief CP INVESTIGATOR said it takes 1/4 mile to stop a freight train going 45mph. That is 5 ENGINES. This was started by track grinder and wind. Imagine with those protesters idiots that put pallets and gas on the tracks. Saskatchewan where there were 100 oil cars. Intentionally is arson if not interior terrorism.

As long as the flange doesn't snap off the engine wheel or skid over any wreckage derailing the engine and everything else till it stops, things usually go OK for the train crew . I hit the rear of a pickup truck parked sideways on the tracks at 60 mph operating a 9000 ft.loaded auto train 1:30 a.m. , had dimmed my headlights ( no RR crossings at grade and was approaching a meet with an opposing freight ) Saw it at about 800 ft , dumped the brakes-emergency call etc. Glad there was no one in it and we stayed on the rails . Sure made a big fireball explosion flying wreckage and a tense moment . The crew on the approaching train sure were impressed\we were busy with protocol procedures . Delayed 3-4 hours for cleanup train\track inspection . Just another RR day .

@exilfromsanity
@exilfromsanity 5 жыл бұрын
GP9s were delivered with several gear ratios. Remember some GP9s (the "torpedo boats") were dual service, passenger and freight, locomotives and as such would be geared for higher speeds than freight only units. The" GP9" on this train is a rebuilt (low nose) dual service (torpedo boat) unit and there's no telling what gear ratio it's running. The top speed of a locomotive can't be judged by the model alone. here are some of the available gear ratios and the top speed reached; 65:12 gearing 55 mph. used on a lot of early switch engines and some early road engines. 62:15 gearing 65 mph by far the most common EMD gear ratio for road locomotives 61:16 gearing 71 mph used by roads wanting a little faster speed and on some dual service engines Passenger engines such as the E-6, E-7, and E-8 used higher ratios giving higher speeds. 57:20 gearing 98 mph. fairly common passenger gearing for E-units with 36" wheels giving 91 mph 56:21 gearing 105 mph but most common on E-units giving 100 mph top speed 55:22 gearing 115 mph common E-unit gearing giving 110 mph speed with 36" wheels Another complication is that many of these units were rebuilt and as part of the rebuild the gear ratios were changed. For example The I.C rebuilt dual service GP9s at their Paduca shops to freight specifications with 62:15 ratios replacing the 61:16 dual service ratios on some but not all of them.
