My fiancé is a combat vet. She was hit by a ied in Afghanistan in 2007. She was ready to pull the trigger when I met her. I made the call and now we have a beautiful son and our wedding is in 8 weeks.

Yeah trust that feeling. One of my Dads friends came by to visit him today. But he couldn't, because he died 3 months ago. We had to tell him and he said he got the feeling to visit him 4 months ago when he was in town but figured he would catch him next time. Then next time was too late. Then he had found out another of their friends went last month. So he put off visiting and ended up missing two friends.

This song saved my life. My best friend who I call my sister, heard this song and called me when I was in a really dark place. I am a victim of several forms of abuse and was contemplating suicide one night, when out of no where my phone rings and she's on the other side of the line telling me that I was in her thoughts even though I had literally seen her half an hour before she called. I don't preach God and religion but I know there was a Higher power working at that moment in time.

I come from a military, first responder family. My father, grandfather, my brother, and myself were/are all volunteer first responders. My father was, he passed last year, and my brother are both veterans. I did not server in the military, but was a volunteer first responder. I am just a little to old now to jump on a rig, but have been given the honor of a lifetime membership into the fire house. My grandfather was one of the first to start the fire service in my little town, were I grew up. While severed I was given the honor of wearing my grandfather's badge number as he had passed before I joined. My brother was also given the same honor when he joined. (I am sure you can understand what an honor that was.) I took the college path and became a teacher in that same little town. Our station, for many years, had the only set of "the jaws of life" for many many miles around. My family and myself responded to way to many auto accidents. I never got to the point of holding a gun, and hope none of those I hold dear ever have, but I will say this. I did and still have many, many nights of 'dreams' and visions I can not sleep through. Please Please PLEASE if you know a veteran, a first responder, or dispatcher, pick up the phone a lot. Oh in closing, if there is ONE vet not in a home, or receiving the help they need our nation should be ashamed.

Great reaction and great advice. You truly seem to get it. Especially for a young man. This song touches my heart because my family had a terrible tragedy a few years back. My son and stepson’s mother was beaten to death by the man she was dating (we were apart for a year). My boys were 12 and 19 at the time and if it weren’t for their amazing friends, family, teachers and future stepmom’s constant contact and support I’m not sure how they (or I) would’ve gotten through it. This one hits home! Thanks for getting it and most of all thanks for your service!! The world needs more young men like you. Much respect brotha!

What I would give. The 3 people that could call me and understand all came back dropped with a flag over them. I cannot even begin to put into words the level of survivors guilt. I couldn’t save them no matter them no matter how hard I tried. I’m still here and I’m still battling. I battle PTSD and life everyday, for me and my children.

i have PTSD its not just a serviceman thing my daughter was murdered in 1979 i was pregnant and was attacked beaten and held against my will my baby didn't survive the attack i was diagnosed with PTSD when i was 17 yrs. old. I hate it when people think PTSD only effects soldiers because it is not true.. then in 2017 my son took his own life. PTSD is diagnosed every damn day. Btw thank you for your service Billy my father, grandpa and 3 uncles served in the military. My uncle Jimmy was in Vietnam and was subject to Agent Orange he doesn't know anyone anymore it breaks my heart. No one deserves to be homeless. Reach out to anyone who needs a friend.

What a wonderful song! Hey, a phone call -- hearing the voice of a loved one or a friend just makes all the difference in the world. My family members are all about 1000 miles away, so we're on the phone a lot. I remember when my husband and I first moved away from our home and I was living 1000 miles away, that phone call from home just meant the world. It's important to stay in touch and while letters mean a lot, too, that real live phone call just makes a world of difference. It's encouraging, even when you don't realize you need encouragement.

I'm a civilian who knows that type of feeling, I tried, and failed to save someone, watched them die a gruesome death, they barely brought me back many times that night, nothing could possibly hurt me more than the love and support from her family, but it kept me from making that last decision.

I lost a childhood friend of mine who was a First Responder for quite awhile. He ended up at the end of a dead end road just like the first vet in this song. Only difference is, he did not answer the calls of so many trying to call him. R.I.P. Skippy. U are missed. So I do agree, the point is, pick up the phone and check on your friends, loved ones. You never know!

I don't talk on the phone as much as I used to. My best friend (he's been gone 3 yrs) and I would talk at least 8-12 hrs a day. We could talk about anything and knew that if we needed anything the other would be there. He was an Army Ranger years before i met him and I was a sounding board for him when it came to that. There have been several times in my life when I've felt hopeless and like I wanted to end it all. I was lucky, I always had a friend or two I knew I could count on to be there for me. Not everyone has that though.

I just want to point out one little thing. Once you can no longer hear that voice. Can't text them with a hi how are you. Just one little Hi Mom or Dad I love you. It's never a good feeling. We lost my Dad in 2015 I would give anything to hear his voice. I still can't listen to some songs like Daddy's Girl. Don't take that call for granted it maybe to late by the time you feel the need to hear that voice.
