My husband had a military funeral. The part that broke me was the folding of the flag, giving it to me and that slow salute. Thank you to all veterans, including my dad WW II, my brother, Vietnam, younger brother, Desert Storm, stepson Iraq and grandson, Afghanistan. My current husband is a Navy vet, USS Kittyhawk. God bless all who gave so much!🙏👼 There is a special place in heaven for you all.

I was blessed to have all those men in my life, some still here, some gone to their heavenly rest. I grieve for them but also know in my heart, they are at peace now, no more pain or suffering. I am 73 and will see them again one fine day.

Thank you for your sincere reaction, I saw my dad 'take cover' during a tv show that had a 21 gun salute, there is nothing funny or trivial about seeing a veteran suffer PTSD, they volunteered to serve our country and will pay the price for the rest of their life. I honor you, my dad and every veteran.

I had two fool brothers that came behind a guy at work and made a loud noise behind him to scare him. I didn't see it, but at break they where laughing about it sayin' " yea he's shell shocked and we scared him" they made the HUGE mistake of lettin' me and another brother veteran hear it. I bitched slapped the one and he punched the other in the gut. Then we cussed them out. We didn't get fired...they did. We did get yelled at but I woulda done it again. How anyone could think that's funny is beyond me. Even if I wasn't a Vet I think I woulda done the same thing. If I may add Brother, if you see a Veteran, also tell them Welcome Home.

The picture of the Marine at the end of the video is Patrick Ray Nixon, who died in Iraq. This song is about him. That's also his real headstone. The part about his grandpa meeting him in heaven and saluting him gets me every time.

It is sung from the viewpoint of a soldier, killed in battle and buried at Arlington National Cemetery. It was inspired by United States Marine Corps Corporal Patrick Nixon, who died in battle in 2003. After meeting Nixon's father, Turnbull was inspired to write the song.[2] Just a little info about the song

Thank you for the reaction. And thank you for being a brother. I'm 45 years old. I've accomplished a lot in my life. But I'm most proud of the years I spent in the U.S. military. Every time someone thanks me for my service, I say thank you. They call me a hero. I ALWAYS remind them that the ones who didn't make it back home, are the real heroes. Here's to them. I can't express my gratitude enough. God speed, and fair winds and following seas to everyone who isn't here with us today. Peace and God bless!

I remember back in 6th grade my school took a trip to Washington DC and one visit was to Arlington National Cemetery. Just as we were getting ready to leave one chaperone was informed that the changing of the guard was going to occur within the next 5 minutes. Needless to say we didn't leave on time. Over 20 years later and I still remember that. I highly recommend anyone that gets a chance, should experience that.

Thank you for your service. My daddy is at Ft. Barancus in Pensacola, FL. He was a 3 war vet who never spoke a word about what he had seen and done. Would just say, "that's nothing little girls need to ever see or hear." How much integrity it must have taken to just not blow up and scream about the atrocities those men must have endured, just to end up six feet down and about one yard apart. His burial was scheduled for May 26 (his birthday) and, as you know, Memorial Day weekend. We played the red tape game just getting them to move to the 27th. They finally caved. Taps started to play, as the sun was slowly setting and then the clicking of heels, the guns rang out, all seven at once x3, the casket was lowered, heels clicked again, someone spoke to us, more heels clicked, they lowered the only man i had ever loved, as well as the only man who had ever loved me unconditionally, into the ground, heels clicked. They folded the Stars and The Bars and pressed them firmly into my big brother's hands, uttered a Thank You, saluted him, heels clickeð. As we stood to rise, my brother and his four young sisters watched as they placed a flag on his marķer for Memorial Day, heels clicked. As young people, with no extended family, there were no others present, we stood to leave, heels clicked, just as the jets went over with the one fade-away. Heels clicked. We thanked them for what we thought was just something they always do. Heels clicked. We then hesrd, "don't thank us, he earned it", with that they turned, heels clicked and just as surely as they had arrived, they were gone. We are all long since grown, my brother followed iñ my father's footsteps and enlisted right out of college, during the time the Vietnam "Police Action" was winding down, because of the respect shown for our father, and, now, his heels click. It brings calm to those who grew up hearing that sound. What it took Dorothy three times to do to find her way home, he accomplished with just one. God Bless America, as well as all who stand as Patriots to protect her Constitution. We wish you well and many years before Old Glory is pressed into the arms of your loved ones and HEELS CLICK with the smell of gunfire.

My Grandpa was a 3rd infantry war hero (unbeknownst to me).. most normal sweet/hard man I’ve ever met. Never talked about his service, never talked about much except our friendship. When he died at 93 years old, 70 years after his service ended, I didn’t expect the amount of work the military put into his funeral. The salutes the awards.. a man who went to war at 17 and never said a word about it still had that respect.. and I love that .

My Dad told me a story from his childhood that made an impact on him at the time, and me when he told me the story. This neighbors had a Son who had just returned home from Vietnam. It was late June early July. Someone in the neighborhood started setting off fireworks in celebration of the 4th of July. The young Man's parents found him on the floor of his room next to his bed taking cover yelling for everyone to get down believing he was back in Vietnam taking fire. My Dad was young at the time and it created a lasting impression on him. To this day my Dad is very hesitant to shoot off fireworks. He thinks of that young man and the PTSD and flashbacks he suffered and how they were brought on by the fireworks. I don't necessarily think people shouldn't celebrate with fireworks, but I do think they should try and be thoughtful of the area and time when they choose to do so. They need to be aware any veterans who might be affected by the noises and smells from the fireworks.

Going to Arlington should be MANDATORY for American citizens, along with compulsory service, but I'll stop there!..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 👋🤠

My wife and I travel around the country in our rv. I’m a retired navy Seabee and one of the things we do is visit any national cemetery we are near. They are all sacred ground. Arlington is definitely on our list to visit

My husband was a Vietnam vet. However he came home and then he served again in law enforcement for 41 yrs. he loved both, the Navy and being a police officer. Trace has several military songs! Check them out. Till the last shots fired” Welcome to Hell” which he wrote right after 9/11. He was one of the first people to visit ground zero and then he wrote the song Welcome to Hell. He only performs it at military bases and around 9/11. He wouldn’t even let them release it to the radio stations There’s one where he does it at Ramstein AFB Germany. Look it up.

Ever since I went to both of my grandfather's funerals, they were both military, I can't hear Taps, bagpipes and the 21-gun salute without thinking about all the soldiers in this country.

I have never been able to make it through this song without crying. Seems I cry earlier in the video every time because I know what's coming. To all servicemen, thank you for your service. I know freedom is not free. May God Bless you all and give you peace.

Im a civie bro, hell of a good video. I've been so fortunate that im able to try to make it in life a musician. Always had that bite in the back of my neck to drop it all and join. Everyone that served pre, with, and post you, i have to thank for keeping us all safe, and going out there and facing it all, while people here take that for granted. We need to make people aware more on these topics, especially when its shared in song like this. Thank you brother, and all that have served or are serving.

God Bless you and all you have been through. My brother lost a foot in Vietnam and has his days and really doesn't like talking about his experience there. You have nothing to be sorry for.

Honey I respect you so much! My daddy served in the Korean war and in Vietnam when he passed away he was buried at the national cemetery here in Pensacola Florida at Pensacola Nas my dad is my hero and I miss him so much if you ever met him you would have thought he's such a peaceful kind gentle man not someone you would imagine being more but he worked in PLL refueling and he actually was in Thailand that's where they would fly the Jets in to refuel and fly out they sprayed all around the flight line and we assume it was Agent Orange because when he passed away he had cancer through his whole body brain bone liver it was everywhere but we but we can never prove it was agent orange which doesn't mean anything now he's been gone since 1984 he passed away at the age of 54 he's my hero,

Based on a true story of a service member who had visited the President in the Oval Office. I've wanted to go but not able to do the walking. I did visit The Punchbowl in Honolulu and had similar feelings. Thank you for all you've done. I had SIX Uncles and my dad in WWII.

I want to thank you, BUT not only for your service and sacrifice. I want to thank you for starting this channel. Your willingness to open up and express yourself, be vulnerable and let people you don't know see you on a different level is something many can't do. I'm certain that I'm not the only veteran who watches these video, cries with you and is grateful to know they aren't the only one. When you say "don't just thank them for their service. Ask them how they are. Talk to them." You are doing that very thing everytime you sit in front of the camera. Bless you brother.

I live in Springfield MO and they have a National cemetery here . First time I went I found myself in a place for civil war soldiers. The stones all just said Unknown Union soldier or Unknown Confederate soldier. As a veteran myself It broke my heart to see them all unknown to anyone after all their sacrifice and I took a knee and bent over and cried like a baby.
