This was originally supposed to be a short, but Layne was having so much fun with the arrangement he just kept going. The end of last year both their preferred cameramen and assistant cameraman moved out of state (different states). So they are having trouble getting replacements. (Not everybody that can operate a camera knows how to film music videos. ). That’s why both the December video and this one were both filmed on iPhones. Their regular cameramen are willing to come back for filming, but that and unavailability of the Layne’s chosen featured performer are going to result in only minis for April. But May should be good. I’ve already seen the set for it, and only someone with their own studio (and Layne’s warped mind) would even consider building that set! I can’t wait!

I do believe it's Layne that's responsible for all the animals this time. Let us not forget the man has a degree in computer engineering, as well as his musical career and is used to editing VoicePlay videos.

Some interesting history: Did you know this song originated in South Africa in 1938 with the Zulu language title of "Mbube" - it was Pete Seeger and The Weavers who recorded it as "Wimoweh" that brought it to American attention in 1950/51. After other recordings of it were made, in 1961 it was re-written/arranged to it's most popular and well-known form as the doo-wop/R&B hit, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" as recorded by the Tokens. There was a big lawsuit from the original composer's family when Disney used it in The Lion King without paying any song royalties.

This mall, featured in many VoicePlay videos and shorts, is Orlando's Oviedo Mall, a million-square-foot indoor shopping center, which houses VoicePlay's studio, Pattycake Productions, where they film VoicePlay's (and Geoff's) music videos. Like many malls in America, online retail sales hit their original retail shopping concept hard, so Oviedo (pronounced o-VEE-do) adapted. Now their businesses include a batting cage, a dance studio, a music recording studio, a theater featuring live stage plays, etc. So VoicePlay doesn't really 'invade' a local mall for these shots -- they just stroll outside the door of Pattycake into the mall corridor and start filming!

That mall is where Pattycake Productions is. It's where Voiceplay and Geoff do a lot of their videos, and the mall is home to most of their shorts and minis. 💙

I think this may always be one of my favorites. Lovely things had just happened in a couple of the guys' lives when they recorded it, and the joy is so infectious you can just feel it radiating from the screen.

I love that you notice they're not sing "Wimaueh" constantly like in original, you're the first onte that notice that. Actually this voiceplay song is a second version 20 years after they do it in 2004, from the most famous guys, we only have Geoff, Layne and Earl, the other are member that left the group after. And this version is very different and they say "wimaueh" like in original. So i have a recation sugestion: Do a Reaction/Comparison, listen the 2024 version again and try to catch new details and then, listen the 2004 version ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fNKJjZlms9yUYmg.htmlsi=qqyX1XSMBEGjwz5A ) and after you both say what you like more!
