The expression "rock and roll" was in use by mid-1951 to describe R&B with backbeat, which had already been a fad and known as "rockers" in 1949, with recordings like "Rock That Boogie" by Jimmy Smith, "Rock The Joint" by Chris Powell, "Boogie At Midnight" by Roy Brown, and "Rockin' All Day" by Jimmy McCracklin. "Hillbilly" musicians became increasingly interested in that non-"hillbilly" "rockers" sound during 1950-1951, which resulted in 1950-1951 hybrid recordings like "Birmingham Bounce" by Hardrock Gunter, "Rocket 88" by Bill Haley, and "Rock City Boogie" by Tennessee Ernie Ford and the Dinning Sisters.

This series is fantastic! I'm enjoying this much more than I should. I dunno. I would love a history of the drums with an even bigger video budget and whatnot but this is pretty damned good as is.

Off course. It was brought by irish immigrants. Just compare irish folk with american bluegrass: Same instruments, same affection, even the irish folk Dance is the same. American Country had just developed through the years, but the base is from the irish.

I play drums by ear, not sheet music notes. Heck, I don't even know how to even read sheet music. Lol.

Well, he was initially very rockabilly, but that's not where he got his fame. If anything, that's the stuff that refused to make him famous ... I say this as BH fan for the past 44 years.

Drums ruined country music. Real country don't need no drums.
