Had my victorinox tool for 20+ years. It’s is indestructible, mine got lost for a year and I found it in a bait holder in some old fishing gear- it had been soaked in salt water and sat there all that time. I thought that was it because they were black with rust (couldn’t open any blades). Well a bit of a clean up and and it was good as new. Bloody amazing.

I am carrying the Swiss Tool X (or whatever its name was back then, same model) for 30 years now, after I had Leatherman tools for 10 years. For me the Swiss Tool is made out of better Steel, but I have to admit that I only carried both sizes (small and large) of the very first Leatherman. The wire cutter on the Leathermans plier bent as I was cutting barbed wire, so I was looking for something new and found the Swiss Tool. I never looked back.

I don't really see that the ratchet drive has much to do with the tool. It's a stand alone addition that makes up for the shortfalls of the main tool. having said that, I think that there is clearly a place for the Swiss Tool; The precision engineering aspect is very useful, and I can imagine that there are many users who might find that to be the most useful part of the tool. However, I am a biker (m/cycle, not bicycle) and the heavy duty design of the Leatherman Surge, as well as the extra utility of the add-ons like the ratchet, and the specific drives that come with the Bit Kit make the Leatherman Surge a "No Brainer". Good review, but the comparison should really have included the Surge, as I think that the heavy duty aspects of the Swiss Tool match up more evenly with that model. For anyone interested, Jon Gadget does a very good comparison of the Surge vs Swiss Tool X, and is very even handed in his assessment.

its quite remarking that a 20+ year old design from victorinox can hold its own in todays market and i would chose it any day over a p4. my old wave has a good quality compared to that stuff leatherman nowadays sells (had to return two wave+ 2h due to various issues) but it doesnt come close to the new swisstool i bought out of frustration from the last 2 wave + fails. And if you get one, skip the plus kit with leather sheath, way too heavy, get the holder, made from some kind of sturdy plasic, very nice to store and deploy it.

Can that ratchet be used with sockets. Is there an adapter for it maybe. That would be awesome
@dsimon33871
@dsimon33871 Жыл бұрын
You can. There is an adaptor bit you find for ratchet sets, that allows the sockets to attach on one side, which is just a little different size than the regular bit size. I use sockets all the time with my spirit. Best thing to do: go to an auto parts store, and buy a small socket set, it will have the piece. BTW once you have this piece guess what? You can get adaptors for the bigger socket sizes as well! Just treat the ratchet piece from Victorinx as you would a ratchet driver where you wanted to use a bigger socket size.
@dannyboswell7188
@dannyboswell7188 Жыл бұрын
@@dsimon33871 Yea man I’ve figured it out since then. I got the larger version. Think it’s called the Swiss tool and got the ratchet set. And put a 1/4 inch socket bit in on the bit holder since it came with a couple empty slots. Works really well in a pinch. Especially for its size. I’m in love with it. I think I would’ve been better off getting the spirit tho. Kinda like it’s design a lil more. N I seen some of the newer ones have a one handed operation. I bite my nails and find it hard to open lol. Gotta break myself from that to open these tools. But this is by far my favorite multi tool when comparing them to leatherman and other brands. I’m gonna start collecting Vic’s. So far I also have the mini champ on keychain and I usually don’t keep the bit kit in the pouch included with the Swiss tool. Just keep them in my bag. But i got the one hand opener straight edge sentinel. And put in the pouch along with the ratchet and extender. Reason why is bc the blade is awesome, plus it gives me the tweezers and tooth pick which is missing from the ratchet set. Idk why I thought you had the spirit. Just clicked on the vid. And seen we got the same Swiss tool
@dsimon33871
@dsimon33871 Жыл бұрын
@@dannyboswell7188 I know it's a guilty pleasure but it's part of our DNA of the male species that if we really can afford it owning both of these tools well it's an entitlement of sorts lol. What I like most about the smaller version is the blade. I find it ingenious because I've always felt like a real blade on a multi-tool is a little bit like ordering seafood at the local pizza restaurant. I mean One usually carries some sort of a blade, Do I really need a blade on my multi-tool that parrots a tool exclusively designed for its blade use?. But the serrated design of that implement with just a little bit of straight blade surface area I just love the way that works out. Alas I will probably wind up buying the bigger version as well just to have both of them as I am also a lover of Victoria Knox products.

@@name5949 I agree with you, my one is real old too, comparing it to the Leatherman Wave at the time, nearly bought that instead but the quality of the Swisstool won. I still have a Crunch and old Juice though, they are all good tools really.

The Spirit X is way better than the Swisstool X. Actually, it's the BEST multitool ever created.

The scisors are quite bad on Spirit unfortunatelly…

@@mike_qbik I don't think, that the company with the highest quailty and performance scissors on aany multittool out there, has ever made a "bad" scissors. Any kind of size scissors, on any of my Victorinox tools, works the same. The one you call "Bad" works on tougher materials even better than most mustitool scissors I've used. cuts zip ties and finger nails like butter, what else do you need?!! Respect the opinion though!

There’s one more trick to the Swiss Tool. If you open just one handle you can arrange it to make a proper right angle to the other handle. 📐
