The biggest cost of the Iraq War was not the combat or rebuilding of Iraq but the fact we were able to keep the KIA to WIA ratio so high meaning it's costs considerable more to provide care to a wounded Vet for the next 40-50 years than it does to just bury them. And these costs are still accruing and will continue to accrue for the next 3 or 4 decades. It' makes up a significant portion of the National Debt but we really have no choice morally but to make sure these Vets get everything due to them even as many members of Congress are still trying to weasel out of their obligations. Look how they weaseled out of paying for the soldiers poisoned by the burn pits in Iraq along with first responders for 9-11 who also had their health damaged and deserve lifetime care

When I was growing up it was WWII and Korean Vets, in the 90's it was Vietnam Vets and here is the thing, American Indians from a Federally recognized Indian nation are exempt from being drafted yet we served with the highest per capita numbers in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. The cruel brutality of this is a uniquely Russian way to deal with those pesky walking wounded! In every other army, or at least the US army, most such men would be either allowed to convalesce or the more severely wounded released from service. Most armies recognize good treatment of the wounded is crucial for morale of the troops, but Russia just doesn't care about either ones! You can achieve very little with an army like this, and only if you use 10 untrained men to do a job that one motivated troop could do in a proper army. Putin will achieve nothing that looks like a victory in Ukraine, and Russia is going to lose this war one way or the other.

I served with shell shocked Marines in Afghanistan and the U.S Marines immediately attempts redeploy them to swap them out with Marines with families who are not shell shocked yet. Basically from a financial manpower perspective it's cheaper to use the same Shell shocked devil dog over then to have two shell shocked Marines. In some cases Marines would become malingerers and commander's would need an immediate replacement and they dont care if the service member is injured. Afghanistan

It's such a Looney Tunes situation, when a character gets injured and a moment after it returns already bandaged and with crutches.

Apparently the Finns are perplexed by all the footage of Russians insta-gibbing themselves the very instant they get wounded. The best explanation is that the soldiers know they are going to be sent repeatedly into combat until they are dead, so they are casually checking themselves out to spare themselves some misery.

Just another in a near endless list of examples of how the Russian state treats its own people as disposable equipment and material. And how much of the people, apparently, are happy to go along with it.

If they are mobilizing 25,000 to 30,000 a month but losing 1200 per day, maybe more, that actually is a net loss of 6 to 9,000 a month

First need to figure out if these soldiers came from penal colonies or not, if so the Russians consider them expendable.

I honestly question what the brass expect a man on crutches to do in combat. Throw harsh words?

I've seen occupiers without helmets. I've seen an occupier wearing Adidas sneakers in the field (before his "comrade" sent him up to heaven to be served hot dogs by Prigozhin.) I've seen occupiers not knowing how to use their weapons. I saw one officer occupier get so frustrated he literally threw his broken weapon at one of his men in a trench. A troop of determined girl scouts would be more effective in Ukraine than the occupiers (and possess the added virtue of being sober.)

How to get out of healing your wounded soldiers and paying health care for the foreseeable future. Putin definitely bringing back the good old Soviet Union day's.

The scenario you laid out at the end, true for the medium/long term but you'd think for the short-term; you're getting hit with these balloon payments rather than a trickle over time... though I imagine the whole bureaucracy makes it hard to prove your love one is dead, and if dead, died in Ukraine etc.

Russian soldier gets to medic. Medic informs him he was supposed to die on the front. Go further deplete enemy supplies by getting hit by them. It is literally the sole function of a russian assault. Staggering martial incompetence. They can be as brutal as they like, it still won't get them victory.
