Like so everyone can see: Odyssey main themes ________________________________________________ Petriacrhy - the notion that men are superior to women. Xenia- greek idea of customs and greeting protocal. You should entertain/house someone you don't know. Nostos- "homecoming" Metis- "cleverness" that Odysseus generates. ex: polyphemus and "nobody" thing Arete-greek notion of being good at something. restraint: Odysseus restrains his arete by not competing with the inferior phenacians

This is a really good summary, but certain details are actually incorrect (I assume for simplicity). For example, Odysseus doesn't strip because it would help him swim better, he strips under the instructions of Ino, the Goddess who saves him from Poseidon's storm.

@juffan: Greek ships had an "all-seeing eye" painted on the front or prow. The sailors believed the magic eye would guide them safely home to port. There was also the superstition of the "evil eye". The "evil eye" is the belief that if the eye stares long enough at someone, it will inflict damage of harm on that person.

at 5:10 the "little mishap" with the Laestrygonians actually destroyed 11 out of 12 of Odysseus' ships. obviously, his ship is the lone survivor. so, from there on all the graphics with more then one ship are wrong and all mention of "ships" (plural) should be singular.

Greek ships were decorated with eyes (as well as nameplates, figureheads etc.) to display the wealth of those who had paid for their construction and also to frighten enemies.

Obviously, the cyclops was a monster, but honestly, they shouldn't have stayed to wait for the owner of the home that they raided. And then expect for the owner (that they all already know is not human that is of equally their size) to be hospitable to them??? Dafuq? I know this is a different age 'they' were living in, but there's no honor in raiding a small village and killing all the residents.
