Have Ya'll never played Silent Hill? REmake camera angles are all deliberately placed. The Silent Hill camera wildly spins in the wrong direction when colliding with walls... @@coldbacon4869 As someone who played the first Resident Evil for the first time last year and actually read the entire Keeper's Diary, I find it actually quite disturbing and horrifying to see someone's writing slowly degrade as he's deteriorating into a zombie. The sanity slipping away is precisely why people thought it was terrifying. This game is a masterpiece. All the clunkiness of the camera, controls, saves, and inventory is what makes the game great. It's amazing game design. 1) no checking corners, you can actually facebump a zombie. Sounds becomes critical too. 2) this is not an action game, it's a survival horror. You are not meant to fight, especially early on. 3) the inventory management is what forces you too strategise your pathing. If you need get somewhere dodging zombies but you are missing a key, then you will need to go back, pick up the key, and back to the door. That's at least three times that you need to dodge the zombies all the way. But you could go the other way around to avoid those zombies. But you killed one there. Is it going to be a red zombie yet? Choices are organic to the game and matter, a lot! 4) the saves are meant to push you forward. You need to make progress in order to save the game, or you will get trapped. No quicksaves, no save whoring. I beat the game in a second run with only 12 saves and there is only about 40 ribbons in the game. On a first run I used 33, it's pretty well balanced for a blind run. 5) most bosses don't require killing them. "42" can be shipped with a puzzle if you do it right, for the snake you can pick the item and run, for L. T. you don't need shooting... Overall, play this if you REALLY like horror games. You are in for a treat. Don't expect the RE4 experience, because there is no farming or aiming in here, just exploration, decision making, and resource management.

@relwaldivad82263 жыл бұрын
@@washingtonunibound I disagree. I think Dunkey explained his thought process very well and gave good reasons for his specific critiques of the game. his point was not that the writing sucked when he talked of the zombie diary. I'm also pretty sure he was making a joke when he said "i didnt know that zombies could write or even eat". His point was to address the duality of off the wall humor and thick immersive dread present in the Resident Evil franchise. He mentions that this is why he thinks Resident Evil is a masterpiece throughout the video, because the ridiculous enemies and (sometimes) deliberate silliness of the writing enables the game to stand out in a genre that especially today is massively oversaturated, and why they will probably create remakes of the remakes :) Even if the zombie diary was meant to be serious, his point still stands. Although who is to say whether the zombie diary was meant to be lighthearted and comedic or dark and somber? I think the fact that everyone is so divided on this in the comments is evidence that the writing is phenomenal in this game and doesn't put itself in a box.

A lot of what you list as negatives in this game are what I absolutely love about it. The whole point is resource management, puzzles, strategy, planning. Even the exploration is a puzzle of sorts, like "alright I can't go down that hallway because I'm on red caution with no heals and there's a crimson head there, so I'll loop around and use the armor key to open this door, which hopefully has an herb behind it etc." It's one of the best experiences I've had in gaming and I'm about halfway through my first playthrough as I write this comment. Having to use ink ribbons to save is also genius. It makes you have to seriously consider your every move. It's survival horror. Not bang bang shooty boom horror.
@insertnamehere91533 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t call the ink ribbons genius in the slightest because even with the ink ribbons I never really had to consider when I saved the game it gives you more then enough to suffice so that really does just come off as annoying because your forced to take them out of the box every time you want to save. Also while exploration is fun it is absolutely bogged down by those door animations I adore this game but the reason it’s one of my lesser replayed resident evil games is because of those god awful door animations that absolutely Kill the exploration of the mansion. When you find a new room sure its fine but when it’s for rooms you’ve been in countless times it just annoys me. I Love the game probably in my top 10 of all time but can we stop pretending re1 is a perfect video game please
@GugureSux3 жыл бұрын
@@insertnamehere9153 I don't agree one bit. Especially first timers can EASILY get into a situation where they may have to play the game for an hour+ without being able to save, making the game absolutely terrifying. I've had a joy of witnessing a handful of total RE-newbies play the classic games for the very first time in recent weeks, and more than a couple times these people were indeed out of save states, visibly changing their behavior. Anyone crying about the door animations can go fuck himself. They have never been an issue, and never will be. Might just as well go play Call Of Duty if you cannot pace yourself for a slow-burn adventure title, and appreciate how the doors themselves already signal the subtle change in atmosphere from area to area. Last but not least: no, I don't need to "pretend" that RE1 / REmake would be a perfect video game. I KNOW that it is one. An absolute, timeless masterpiece, that's worth re-visiting and experiencing semi-annually.
