Once I get settled in, I'll be happy to do an interview, since I will be working at a regular, private school so that's a different teaching experience, I am older than most of the people coming over and I am female.. there's been a request to have some women in your videos :) -- maybe the end of the year once I've had time to get in the Saigon groove :-)

It is so easy to go out and meet people in Vietnam. Vietnamese women are beautiful and street smart. The best thing is you can do things without people looking at you in a weird way. You are free to express yourself as long as it's not disrespectful or violate the law or has anything to do with politics. I think you will grow to be thick skinned if you live in Vietnam long enough.

On the subject of pollution, Hanoi is way way worse than Saigon. If you live in Saigon, maybe aim for d7. I lived there for 9 months and I am pretty sure that the wind generally comes from the south (from the ocean), meaning that d7 has some of the best air in Saigon. Don't have any data on it, but it's my distinct feeling, air always got worse going into any other district basically, could be that d2 has decent air also, but I spent too little time there to say with any certainty..

As much as I hate to say it, people with lighter skin are treated better here (I believe this is the same in most Asian countries). If you look Japanese, Korean you will be also treated well. People of dark skin are generally not treated any way worse than normal, but here and there you will see the locals look at them with cautions. Part of the reason is that there are quite a few illegal workers that come from Africa and they have caused a few problems here and there within the local community. Racism is real anywhere, but I would say that it is not as much as countries such as the US (I have been there for 5 years so I know what I'm talking about). Another reason is that the Vietnamese (and a few other Asian races) tend to look down to people of darker skin, this is a historical issue (it is believed that back in the old day, only rich people can afford staying in door and others have to work in the fields. The people with lighter skin are then considered of a higher position, richer, well educated that those with darker skin)

I think Vietnamese aren't used to the direct approach when it comes to dating, it's rather a better way to just kind of create an effortless conversation by creating a genuine interest in something that a person is talking about or what she wears,...Plus, I believe it's easier for a Vietnamese to do so rather than a Westerner.

The life in Vietnam is a bad choice, as the country lacks a lot of things, from some simple traffic regulation up to standards regarding the pollution and food. The climate in Vietnam is one of the worst in the world (but that is the case in whole SEA). The humidity is always around 91%, the temperature is most of the year more than 30-32 degrees Celsius, which you really feel like 40+, the UV sun rays, are just killers, most of Vietnamese are dressed from head to toe just because of this extremely strong sun. In Hanoi area it is a bit cooler than that, but not much, and the pollution makes it really hard to breath, the sky is not visible because of the smog. The apartments and flats are built with very thin walls, and with a low quality build while inside the flat can look great, because of the outside quality, you are going to be a cooked meat when staying in. In the night you can't sleep without AC on at all times. The prices there are in general cheaper than Western world, but some things are more expensive, and if you want to buy a piece of cheese it will cost you like 4-5$ for 100 grams for some low quality not very good looking cheese. Most of the food and other types of products as well, there are just beneath even the lowest quality standards from Western countries or Australia. English teaching work is mostly based in Hanoi and HCM(Saigon), which are overcrowded and over-polluted, traffic, motor bikes, millions of them, no traffic regulations what so ever, going across the street on foot can be quite a challenge as nobody stops to let pedestrians go over zebra. The best part is the food, the food there, most of it is treated with some very strong preservatives, which enables the meat, to just stay in the street the whole day, no health regulations no food regulations, no safety regulations, nothing. Roasted ducks sitting in the street in the glass display on the outside temperature without flies even attacking them, they don't go bad, which by any biological law is impossible, so the food there is quite harmful for your health as it has probably 100 more times of food preservatives than in countries with food regulated laws. About the over pricing, and when buying something in most of the bigger cities they will just charge you or try to charge you from 3-10 times more than the locals. Money-wise to earn on average 1300-1500$ per month (the best case scenario as in smaller places some schools offere 800-1000$ wages so this is not the same everywhere), and live in one of the most polluted countries in the world, eat some street rubbish food, try to survive the heat there, or live under AC air most of the day, I personally think it is not worth it, decent flat is from 350-400$ or more, better quality food will cost you more, most of the schools work 9 months and 3 months you are without the pay. So, if you are some kind of hippy that only thinks about cheap weed, go for it go and live and work in Vietnam, if you are a person that lives by some more civilized standards, avoid Vietnam for life and work, visit it as it is good location to visit, meet the people etc, but this is where it ends.
@FlightAMD
@FlightAMD 7 жыл бұрын
Enjoy it bro' what can I tell you, if by your standards Vietnam is good country for life, than what can I say more? Go for it. Yes Ho Chi Minh air pollution is not that bad, why than it doesn't go into green zone not even at night when there's no traffic. And what about the heat, it's not hot in Ho Chi Minh as well probably?
