My dad lived there before he past away this past December. I stayed with him several times over the years and absolutely loved the Villages! I'm not sure where all the negativity comes from. I mean it's not going to be sunshine and lollipops all the time. You guys are so upbeat and positive I love it!

I think every home is a million dollars everywhere. If you get less space you get other fantastic amenities but you miss that space, as you would the amenities with more space. There is no cheap reasonable nice place. This is a lovely couple with class that I would like to have as neighbors or as part of my community. This place gives them what makes them happy. I’m not sure if it’s attached to other living facilities and care for the elderly. It’s smart to buy into a place for seniors because you can easily get a social life with the events or activities held. I bought in Camarillo, CA and will probably retire here. No complaints either...it’s lovely everywhere and everything north of LA for many cities is. LA has super cute neighborhoods too. I have a lot of beauty and convenience. I might rent this place out and buy into a gated senior place later with these low interest rates and get a bigger place that’s a ranch. The area has many facilities for seniors but is gorgeous.

Seems like you are getting more than your share of haters and trolls. I would like to thank you two adorable people for enlightening us about the Villages....both positive and negative. My husband and I are new to the Villages and thanks to you and to relatives that also live in the Villages, we are getting a pretty good grasp of the concept of this great community. Your informative KZfaq channel, your kindness, wit/sense of humor and willingness to help other Village newbe's, out of the creative goodness of your hearts, is awesome to experience. I will continue to view your videos (still catching up!) and will give you all the support you deserve!

I’m just very sad that there is so much old Florida homesteads and land being destroyed for the building of The Villages. Glad to have you guys here since I work for a company who services The Villages. Like I said it’s just sad to see all these farms turned into houses. I am south of Fenney and there is lots of talk of them coming down here and that’s quite scary.

Thank you for this video. I know you meant it mostly to be funny but I find it more helpful to hear complaints because the positives are visible and obvious, the negatives you have to live there to experience. Even if some people are just crabby by nature, if you hear enough of the same complaint it’s probably true and all of us know the things that would bother us so if it gets brought up it means it might be something to consider. Thanks again! I hope you do more of these. They are more helpful than you think.

We've stayed in the Villages several times, we actually thought about buying there, but we didn't feel it was for us. But the whole complex is well done, clean, felt very safe, and everyone was friendly. My FIL and I were paired up with some residents for golf, I'm a new and horrible golfer and was afraid of ruining their round, but we all had a great time and couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed the bands on the squares, yes, a lot of drinks getting poured but no nasty drunks or inappropriate behavior while we were there. One night, it must have been a school holiday, lots of kids (yes, kids are allowed to visit for up to two weeks, and they have playgrounds and other activities for them),there was a DJ on the square (if I recall it was Spanish Springs), the kids, Mom, Dad, G'ma, G'pa, were all up and dancing to modern, rap, a few oldies, rock, it looked like great family fun. There must be some great memories for the kids when visiting their grandparents, and no they weren't stuck sitting around watching Wheel of Fortune. So, even though we didn't choose to live there, I wouldn't disparage the people who find it their paradise that they so richly earned after a lifetime of work. Oh, btw Jerry, the STD issue was mainly from the,..... ahem....... promiscuity of some of the elderly residents. Supposedly, there is a drink on the menu in Sumter square called, "sex on the square", in honor of a 68 y.o. widower who was off in the bushes with her 49 y.o. boyfriend, and they were caught by police.

The only thing that Sumter county cares about is building more Villages. They do not care about those of us with families who run the stores, restaurants, and medical buildings who need places to live too. Which is the reason why I dislike the Villages. I don't dislike the people who live there though. They are expanding so much that eventually nobody is going to want to drive 40+ minutes to work an underpaid job in the Villages. It's causing a housing crisis for families and that's one of the things the Villages won't tell you. They also won't tell you that many of these houses were built on swamp land and some properties will be prone to sinkholes. They are also destroying Florida's habitats so expect to have things like Coyotes, Bobcats, rats, alligators, bears and raccoons eventually finding it's way into your neighborhoods. They need to stop building already.

Hello. I’m a resident of New Jersey . 😢. We just lost our dear friends that have moved to the Florida villages to a Beautiful home n of course two new golf carts a his n hers🤗. My wife n I r so happy they are doing well n happy in their life! I really don’t blame them for leaving this state the property taxes are overwhelming they were paying all most 10.000 a year and that’s only paying Property tax ! Crazy isn’t it!! They had a Beautiful log cabin here with 5 acres of wooded ground here. I know it had to be really really hard to move for them. But it is what it is.. As long as they are really happy is what counts! I am one of your Subscribers n like u two talking about the ups and downs of the village . Just maybe someday the wife n I just might go to visit r friends n see for for r self. So thank you for all the wonderful information we really would not know about. If we would move there I wish we could have people like u two as neighbors as well as r wonderful friends 🤗

I live in a retirement community in eastern TN near the Cherokee National Forest. Half the people live with an attitude of continual gratefulness and feel like they wake up every day in paradise, and half of the people complain constantly about everything (which is very interesting, since they could have moved anywhere but chose to live here). I watch your channel because there is so much overlap in what you say about the Villages and our "village", which is interesting. I have been to The Villages a few times because my grandparents lived there before they passed, and it looked like a lovely place to me. Thanks for taking your time to make these videos... they are informative and enjoyable.

We soooo enjoy your videos! We willingly signed (on April 19th) for our Social Security Checks to be sucked away! LOL! We visited 3 times since November-March, looked at many homes, debated renting vs buying, said many prayers and took the plunge because we loved what we saw and experienced. I don't know how we've managed to avoid so many grumpy people, we haven't met one yet but always comment on how friendly and happy the people we meet are. We visited to set up our Village of Sanibel home earlier this month and can't wait to return in 2 more weeks. We don't get to be full time but envy those who are. Any suggestions on cable/internet for part timers?

Oh, the negativity. We moved here around the same time as Jerry and Linda. The Villages is a cross section of America with many of the same positives and negatives that the rest of the country has. Over 120,000 intelligent, articulate, and highly educated people have decided to call the Villages home. Having lived all over the U.S. and other countries while in the Army I can tell you there are much worse places to live. Like anything else, its what you make it. We researched many "Retirement" communities and if you find something better, move there. About ten years ago the book "Leisureville" planted many of the swinger and STD stereotypes prevalent in some peoples minds. The author was very biased and wrote nothing but negative things. Anyhow, Jerry and Linda, Keep on keepin' on. All the best, Chuck and Sharon

Thank you so much for your videos, I love watching them. Not sure where to ask any questions for your next Q&A, so I'll do it here. Are all the facilities, such as Softball, Pickleball, Rec centers relatively centrally located or could there be a significant drive depending on where your home is in comparison to the activity you are wishing to participate in?

Morning, I enjoy all of your videos. You guys seem like very nice people. I am 10+ years from even thinking about retirement but wanted to see The Villages for myself. In February my girlfriend and I came for a short week and we loved the place. It was busy but not crazy like it is here in Connecticut where we live. People were extremely friendly. The scenery was beautiful. Although The Villages is predominately white folks, they could not have been nicer to my girlfriend who is of Asian decent. As far as politics goes, that is a conversation best to never have. And I will see you when we get there. Thank you.

we are newcomers also, so far I haven't experienced any swingers or nasty people. Actually I believe that this is the only place left where customer service is not dead! Sure, there is no place that is perfect in this world but it is also how you look at things. Coming from NY, here there is hardly any traffic. Yes some things are more expensive than up north. But also cheaper too. In my neighborhood there are a couple of born and raised Floridians. My favorite things are all of the clubs to join and exploring areas in our golf cart. You can play golf for free on the Executives but you have to walk.

Y’all are very cute!!! I’m a native Floridian, born in St Aug. lived in Duval, Lake, Sumter, Marion, Citrus counties in my 67 years. 20 yrs ago my husband and I moved from Lady Lake/Villages. Behind Lowes on 441. That big Oak tree behind the store was in my back yard. When that is gone, only the bones of our dead pets remain, maybe. We have retreated to a slice of old Florida on the Withlacoochee River. Truth, we were developed out of our home, amongst pastures of cattle and oak trees. Yes, over 20 yrs ago traffic was scary. Weekly retiree driving wrong direction on 4 lanes in their then huge gas guzzlers. I think the attitude of Villages was insulting to natives 30 years ago. Entitlement to talk down and boss other big they bought property in the Villages. Southerners are gracious people, we are not stupid. We did not fall off the back of a turnip truck yesterday which was the common Villagers attitude. From the grocery store to the post office to the parking lot. Something that I think all Southerners were insulted with was the rudeness of drivers in those big gas guzzlers. They blow their horn at everything! We never had that issue hear unless you were heading for a big crash, Villager blow at people because they have a horn. Villages started as a trailer park in a cow pasture, true story. Big culture shock for all. Locals could not believe the number of people that worked all their lives to move into a trailer park in a cow pasture. No years later we have watched the Villages change our state. We moved because our water went bad on our 3 acres. Aquifer being drained by the Villages 3 water towers and multiple golf courses, at the time. Everyday more rude people taking over our way of life, simple thankfulness of our natural surroundings and wildlife, with graciousness. Truth, pulled out from underneath us by progress. Do I sound sad, I am. Because I have watched 3 counties of quaint country home with swing on the front porch be replaced by cookie cutter over priced homes. That is what Florida has become to accommodate the transplants. However soon this will soon change again. Generations that know the truth of wells going bad, because retirees moved in to play golf, eat, drink, and flush their toilets. Incredible impact on our lives. The comment about a dumping yard for grown misbehaving children. Yes that was happening when we moved 20 yrs ago. You see the 1 st generation of Villagers died off. Then our histories are forgotten to days gone bye. The land completely changed. Just a few landmarks, like the old oak tree

Let's face it, no place is perfect. Our hesitation about relocating to Florida is the oppressive heat+humidity, hurricanes, and rogue gators. We would gladly move there BECAUSE it's politically conservative. Coming from taxed-to-death communist Cali, no state tax is a big plus.

We've stayed in The Villages a couple of times, once a couple of weeks in August when everyone was apologizing for the 'heat wave' being the worst in years. It wasn't that bad. There are times of day you want something cool to sip and sit out the heat, but inside it's air conditioned. Plus we discovered fans actually cool you down when there's humidity in the air. With our single-digit humidity around here, all they do is blow the hot air around. If you see a rogue gator, call the alligator service, they'll send a truck out to take it away, you can enjoy some at RJ Gator's that evening. ;) My mother moved there in 2004, just in time for a bunch of hurricanes. She had Irma blow overhead, too, and she never even lost power. When we visited back in 2007, she took us out to the Village of Caroline to see the house that got damaged in the hurricane. What I saw was less than lots of houses get here when there's a windstorm (even without a wildfire.) No place is perfect, but I'm willing to trade my risks here for what they have there. :)

Not unless they're an actual problem, of course. We want them around to show visitors, anyway. ;)

I visited Indiana only once and that was many years ago. A family who lived "near" South Bend invited me to their home for dinner. We drove and drove and drove on rural roads with no overhead lights to reach their beautiful home. But it was worth the effort to spend an evening with such warm and welcoming people. You seem to have been cast from a similar mold.

I lived there 6 years. They kept every promise they made and instantly fixed anything wrong with the house. As far as traffic-the people from small towns up north do not know how to drive or stay in their lane in the traffic circles. If you think traffic is bad there you have not been to Orlando or Miami! Sumter county was one of the poorest in the nation, but now with the Villages one of the richest in the state. STD’s- that is true and was in articles in many national newspapers. A Dr from SoFlo who came there was quoted as being shocked at the problem. The wine tasting club is said to be the route to the swingers scene. When the F3 tornado hit less than a 1/4 from my house, the developer was terrific! Things were cleaned up quickly and housing arrangements for the people with destroyed houses made. All in all beside the issues with medical care here and there, it was a great place to live. But it is definitely a “company town”.

I agree with Wayne on the medical care. If The Villages would improve the medical care/facilities it would be a no-brainer that TV would be our choice for retirement years.

Hi Linda & Jerry, have been watching your videos and subscribed today. This one today was humorous, but some a little not so humorous. We are in our late 70's, 77 and 78. My husband is still working as as pilot, but I retired at 62. Our plan was to live in WA. in the summer and Hawaii in the winter. But God had other plans. -- our only granddaughter got on drugs and we have custody of her 8 yr. old girl. Our son and DIL help on the weekends, because they still are workin g. But we are enjoying life just the same!! Even if we could retire tomorrow, it wouldn't be at The Villages. So enjoy both of you! God bless you!

It’s typical for retirement living communities not to allow children to live there yet the grandkids are welcome to visit.

The Villages are not unique.... anytime you put a bunch of old idle people in the same area there are going to be some miserable folks that are going to do their best to make everyone around them miserable.

Retirement communities are not perfect and they are not evil. This one doesn't appear to be very diverse, which might not be a negative if you come from some parts of the country or if you aren't a POC. I am finding it hard to imagine spending all day in an area like that.

You two handled those critics very well. I've heard all those rumors before about std and it is a shame that people talk about The Villages like that. Keep the videos coming. We want to move there, but my husband is not quite ready to retire yet; and we would miss the grandchildren. Will probably rent a few times since we would have to sell our house here in PA before purchasing a home there. Thanks for your videos!

Fun show you two. Interesting comments. Still think TV has more to offer than ANY large retirement in the USA. Sure there are some disappointments but more positives. Isn’t life what you make it, No matter what the address? Tks for putting all these shows on the air.

i grew up in Pleasantville until college. Lived all my life in southern NY for 55 yrs. Retired in 2008 and moved to south florida. Wanted to get away from the cold weather/snow/cloudy days/rain and taxes.Thought about the Villages a little but did not want to be in such a structured retirement community or an HOA. I lived in an HOA for the first time here for 4 years and it was a disaster. Glad to be done with that and i now live in the country in Homestead, Fl
