The day Freddie died it was basically announced worldwide by playing this song. I had just casually switched on the radio and fell into the intro of this song (my memory tells me it was at the end of the afternoon but I might be wrong) and immediately thought “hmmm… that is an odd choice for a Queen song to play” and felt immediately it must be because someone had passed away. Remember, it was never confirmed that he was sick but around the release of the Innuendo album it was clear to anyone that he wasn’t well. But the news he had passed away still came as a shock.

Freddie knew he was having the symptoms of AIDS several years before he was positively diagnosed with it. He had already had several friends that had died from AIDS and he knew he was having the same symptoms as they had. When he finally told his band members he let them know he knew about the symptoms several years before that he had. 💔💔😢😢 Even though he was already feeling the terrible symptoms of AIDS. He kept on giving his full energy to his concerts because of the love he had for his fans and his love of music that's what kept him going for as long as he did. Despite what the haters wanted to say at that time. I believe that Freddie Mercury was God's shooting star. So bright and so beautiful but it doesn't last long in the sky. And once again despite the haters and what they said about him. MY GOD is a Loving and Just GOD. My God listens to the heart and spirit NOT who or what they are. THAT'S what he sees. R.I.P. 💔💔😢😢😢🙏🙏🙏. Freddie wrote Princes of the Universe Roger was inspired by one line and wrote A Kind of Magic, sung beautifully 1986 at Wembley for their tour of the same name, John wrote a beautiful love song: One Year of Love, and Brian wrote a piece for the villan of the movie called Gimme the Prize which Freddie said was very difficult for him to sing in this dark heavy register. Roger finished it up with Don't Lose Your Head referring to the immortals who battle each other as there can be only one, and the only way to destroy an immortal is by decapitation. A rather brutal film and a tv series followed, but the music is excellent and so are the videos that accompany each song

She was excited that the Olympics were in her beloved country and when Freddie created the song celebrating her home town - she accepted to sing with him. What many people do not know - is he wrote an entire album for her entitled "Barcelona" and it is magnificent Queen/Opera. I had to laugh when you said later in life they shouldn’t be that good and it was their 12th album. Wait until you hear their 14th album Innuendo. It was the last album they did with Freddie while he was alive. Freddie’s vocals were absolutely amazing. The title track Innuendo is amazing and the last song on the album is The Show Must Go On which has amazing vocals and guitar. Both are studio versions because Freddie was too ill to do live anymore. Also check out the live version of Who Wants to live Forever live at Wembley 1986. Queen was doing their Magic Tour, which was the last live tour Freddie did. They sold out Wembley stadium 2 nights in a row and still had people wanting tickets so they put on another concert at Knebworth a month later. It was packed at 150,000 people. There will never be another!

I love hearing reactions to Queen, and of course, Freddie Mercury. So many years ago I was just a young kid, waiting for each Queen single and album to be released. And with the great film The Highlander came this song, and the soundtrack by Queen. This song elevated that film beyond expectation and was hailed as one of the best. Freddie was a firefly that burned out, far, far too soon. He was here on this planet for each of us and I love seeing how ge affects you guys and others because this old soul still lives in the days in the record store. It made cry. This song just kills me. I think he died shortly after this album came out. I often wonder how long he knew before he died. Did any of the songs have something in there about the knowledge of impending death? God the 80’s were so hard, so many beautiful, amazing talents, minds, and voices lost. Maybe more could have been saved if the country and even world hadn’t been dead set on mistreating anyone who was not boring and unbearably uptight. The rest of humanity didn’t deserve Freddie’s awesomeness. We were all lucky to get to hear him and experience his light.

This is from the film Highlander and written by Brian. Adam Lambert sang this song at the isle of wight festival in 2016 and Brian said he had never heard it sang so well. You should review that as well. Not to compare but to hear it sung beautifully.

This song was released in 1986, Freddie was diagnosed with AIDS/HIV in 1987 but had been having symptoms since 1982. It's believed he knew he had it at the time of this song, which just makes it all the more poignant.
