Historically speaking Edmund held the byname “ironside”. He was recorded to have been taller than most men and one of the most feared warriors of his time. He also challenged king Cnut to single combat and was turned down because he knew he couldn’t beat Edmund in a one on one fight. I wish the show would have shown how badass of a king, warrior and strategist he was.

If Cnut had the balls to pull a stunt like this for real, the real Edmund would have accepted his challenge. The Vikings knew Edmund as Edmund Ironside. He was a battle hardened warrior prince who fought on the frontline on every battle he fourght. He beat the vikings out of Mercia, pushing their invasion all the way to Kent. Only reason he lost the war was because he was betrayed. After Edmunds death, king Cnut even visited his grave once a year to pay his respects to his noble enemy.

Sheesh, the comments in this are hectic, some of you guys and girls need to learn the history here. Bjorn and Edmund were both nicknamed Ironside, that aside this is a shameful version of King Edmund as he was a powerful warrior who nearly became King if not for Streoda of Mercia betraying him.

Goodness change the depressing background music. The real King Canute or Cnut was very intelligent and underrated. I like King Canute in Vikings Valhalla but much prefer the original Vikings show or the last kingdom is best of all 3.

@@mijanhoque1740 agreed. I have seen it so many times. I've got into some other stuff on Netflix but always drawn back into last kingdom. I love the TV series and the books by Bernard. I fell in love with the books first though. I own every book on hardback. I'm looking forward to 7 Kings must die. All of the cast from Alexander Dreymon and all others are very talented and brought the characters to life for me, all did amazing job. Wishing them all the best in there future's. By the time of Canute, Christianity had split most vikings countries. Half or more of them followed Christ while a dwindling minority stuck to the old ways. Canute being one of the 1st Christian viking kings basically cemented Christianity as the religion in the lands of the north.

Christians don’t fear death like you atheists. It’s the total opposite of Norse-Viking religion where you are supposed do die in battle to enter Valhalla, teaching you to be a pagan Jihadi. Where as in Christianity it’s the complete opposite, teaching you to be humble and charitable as the most sacred virtues. Imagine actually living at that time, building a farm and village from scratch, then boom! Viking terrorists come from nowhere destroys everything, stealing your possessions, kills and enslaves your friends and family. I imagine kings choosing Christianity because of wealth but the Scandinavians who weren’t vikings chose it because of the extreme but beautiful teachings that would be optimal for an agricultural time period. You mimic what you value.

The actor that plays King Canute really butchered the pronunciation of his name. All this different viking series thats grown so popular for the last decade allways says the names in the most stupid and worst way. Is it that hard to check the correct way to pronounce it, its does need to be perfect but atleast semi close.
