Sweden hosted the biggest European royal wedding since that of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, when Crown Princess Victoria married commoner Daniel Westling.
The marriage, a love match that has weathered the disapproval of the bride's father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, who was initially horrified that his heir was marrying her former fitness trainer, and growing indifference from the Swedish public, who have increasingly questioned the monarchy's modern relevance, took place in Stockholm's Storkyrkan Cathedral late on Saturday afternoon.

This was absolutely the best wedding of three weddings in past year (UK, Monaco, Sweden) Victoria and Daniel showed all their emotions and they didn't hide their love. Beautiful couple!

Thanks for posting this and shame on STV for not allowing it to be shown in other countries outside of Scandinavia. Princess Victoria is as beautiful as her mother was 34 years ago...and yes I remember that wedding also, lol.

The monarchy isnt to blame for the economic crysis. Especially not our monarchy.. Theyre nice people and they serve us well. Victoria travels around the poor parts of the world and help out as many ways as she can. I and the large majority of the people are glad to pay them. Theyre one of the jewels of our country, and an important part of history, which we would like to preserve rather than forget.

Its not recommended for royals to show their emotions like common folk in public. After the wedding however they eased up and they now have their own private castle in Solna. So they have much privacy aswell.

What a specticle! Why don't they just let the two of them get married in peace? Who needs to hear all the commentary? How annoying! I understand who she is but damn, they are human beings, too! She looked AMAZING in her wedding dress!! And she was glowing!!! He looked sensational in his attire as well! I do wish them all the happiness together!!!

They are freaking adorable! Make me cry every time. I kind of really like that he is just a common Swedish person rather than a foreign prince, I think that makes him more than qualified to be the queen's husband (my humble opinion).

It's true that Swedes are increasingly apathetic about the monarchy, but there is no more republican sentiment than in England (Austrialia, anyone?). It was a shame that the U.S. media chose to ignore this wedding last year, but are tripping over themselves over the grandson of Elizabeth (Victoria is next in line to the Swedish throne). I'll be watching this tomorrow over and over again instead of the royal farce in London. Thanks for posting.

Ahhh...but you forget msnup69, that the Crown Princesses forefathers married into one of the original Swedish royal families and therefore has a Swedish royal lineage rooted in the early 16th century. But what makes my Crown pricesse regal to me and most swedes is her radiant and warm personality.

In Scandinavian countries the royalty have very little influence, if nothing at all, it's simply a traditional thing, it's a happy event, & is not worshiping kings & queens , the only times we notice the royalty is when there’s a wedding, I don’t understand the comments like she can't compete with Diana or that people worship them, that's bogus. most of the royalty in Europe are related to each other, its a wonderful thing:)

I wish to congratulate the Swedish people on the royal wedding of Crown Princess Victoria to Prince Daniel; this wedding is a good indication of the level of social equilibrium which the Swedish society has reached, I'm beholden to identify with such a great event as this, and I wish to encourage all singles in the world to be keen enough to identify the love of their dreams, he or she might not be of the same status as you, he or she might be a so-called "nobody," and there lies your real joy.

It's refreshing to see a royal marriage where they really do seem to have love for each other. As far as the money spent - they could afford it and it got the money out into the economy. Any florist would have loved to have an order like this! Everything they did put money in someone's pocket. The fact that England could only spare Edward and Sophie when they expect all to attend their gala's is typical. PS I thought the wedding dress very elegant!!

It wasn't at all the biggest wedding since Charles and Diana. That statement is plain wrong. Don't forget there was Prince Andrews wedding in the 80s and the Dutch royal wedding in 2002 which were much much grander affairs. However, the understated nature of this wedding probably fit well with the mood of the swedes ( who generally don't see the point of a royal family) and the economic crisis.

@dodojardin Around half of that goes to the court administration and covers staff salaries, it covers the royal family's official duties and things like that. The other half goes to the palace administration and also covers staff salaries as well as maintenance of the royal castles. We could abolish our monarchy but a large part of the costs would remain plus every estimate shows that the monarchy generates a lot more money than it costs, we may in fact end up loosing money,

I really don't understand what is the problem. Every country has their own issue. Here in USA the president, senators, representatives they use our tax money. @dodojardin Actually there is a substantial difference, having a republic would cost a lot more. And a monarch is raised from birth to represent the country and it's people while a president only represents a political party.

@dodojardin I could say the same about our monarchy since Sweden is a representative democracy and our democratically elected representatives have decided that Sweden should be a monarchy. And they have voted to keep it numerous times, the left party proposes a motion to abolish the monarchy basically every year and every year the parliament votes to keep the monarchy.

@Omeganeu In the real Catholic/Christian vows there is no part where the priest says "you may now kiss the bride" etc. Kissing the bride was just made up a long time ago so now it seems traditional to kiss the bride after the vows. They did kiss outside the church though.

They are normal folks. They usually visit a lot of places in the country free from guards and everything. And Victoria does a lot of aid work around the world. So theyre not seen as some sort of unreachable group of spoiled useless royals, but rather a cherished family of nice considerate people.

I recently read that royalty in sweden was in danger. That it was in declin. Is it real? If that is true, I'm sorry about that. Because you know, here in France, it is very complex. Because, we made our revolution but at least, the presidents always act like in the former absolute monarchs. I think that kings and queens such like in scandinavia and even Belgium are symbol of stability. I'm sure it is a little crisis, and swedish will keep their royal family. French people love you swedish people

Victoria is a sweet girl. Daniel looks like a gentleman but remember we don't know how is their private life if they have one. They look very much in love in front of cameras but behind curtains who knows. They don't show their emotions in front of people, isn't that suppose to be the real love, showing your emotions so that everyone knows how much you care for that person? I wish them happiness. I have a suggestion for Daniel, remove those thick glasses, you will looke awesome without them.

Weddings of other persons (with the exception of the King himself) should not be discussed and especially not compared. This day is about princess Victoria and price Daniel, and not about Diana, no matter how important she was.

@Thorstenssons I'll not support the opinion of my compatriot. Sweden has a charming royal family with french origins. France has an other history. We have no lessons to give to anybody. The cost of this wedding will have no impact on our french wallets, so dodojardin should keep his energy to fight french problems. @dodojardin Unrealistic? It is estimated that this years parliamentary election is going to cost more than twice as much as our monarchy, if we had been a republic we would have to hold presidential elections as well and those wouldn't be cheap either. A president would also need a staff just as the king does, and a place to work from, these things also cost money.
