In this metal detecting adventure I'm scouting the woods with great success, a small coin spill on my way and two possible treasure discoveries.
The way to the location lead through a small village, where I've spotted a group of coins laying on the sidewalk! Unfortunately there was a local standing on the street near by. I felt a little bit uncomfortable "shaming" him by showing off my eagle eyes and finding what "they" overlooked for so long.
I couldn't resist and grabbed one coin only (while pretending that my shoelaces got loose), leaving the rest for my way back to the train station...
(I found the shiny coin earlier)
The relic hunt itself wasn't easy as the area was physically demanding with steep hills. Once on top I was able to find a beautiful shoe buckle from 1600's-1700's. What followed was a little bit "strange"... I came across a spot with many coins from 1940's. Could I call it a coin spill? It will remain a mystery why almost all of the coins were spread apart like that.
I then moved on and made more nice finds mostly from 1700's. Four buckles stud out together with a few buttons at the end. I also liked the tiny horseshoe. Poor horse... Apropos "poor"... such was my conserving attempt. I don't remember what could have gone wrong. I did electrolysis on it and (if my memory serves me correctly) placed it in a long distilled water bath afterwards, before cooking in wax.
Unfortunately I can still see this item continue to rust (and as a result slowly falling apart) from the inside. I will have to investigate what went wrong during the process...
At the very end I found two deep targets I couldn't extract due to lack of time and shovel. I think at least one of them could contain possible treasure!
UPDATE: On my recent metal detecting adventure, I return to the location to excavate both treasures: • Man Against Treasure -...
I then passed the village on my way back and grabbed the rest of the coins. What I couldn't understand was, why would people from the village not see them? After all, this was the previous currency, these coins must have been laying there a little bit longer.
It was a memorable outing (from my perspective). I hope you enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching.
