it is downright thrilling to re-watch movies with these guys. their passion and heart is so infectious. i am so glad they loved it. i hope 300 is coming soon. i think they'll enjoy it just as much!

I'm glad you liked it. This blew us away in 1999. The film has CGI, but also a lot of brand new practical effects. Movies nowadays wouldn't bother with the practical effects. By the way, the concept of the Matrix was inspired by "The Allegory of the Cave" by Plato, the ancient Greek philosopher. Of course, "The Allegory of the Cave" more of a thought experiment, not a story.

It's also inspired by Hinduism and Buddhism. The theory that this world isn't our actual home, but only a temporary prison is prevalent in many religions. In the third movie, Neo also realizes that the "real" world outside the Matrix is just a different kind of matrix, and he transcended that one too, "hacked" it as it were. Which is why he could see even when his eyes were destroyed. Makes you wonder how many layers of Matrix are there?

Actually Plato was just one of many philosophers and sages who have claimed the same kind of thing -- check out Lao Tzu, Rumi, Ghazali, even Shakespeare ("All the world's a stage" etc.

There is a lot but most the concept is from the book Simulation and Simulacra. Every actor needed to pass a test that they understanded the concept of mainly that book and only Fishburne got it at first try 😅 Srill yes there is a lot of other inspirations in it. Just Alice in Wonderland is one.

Yes, the Wachowski's (writers) said originally The Matrix was based off Plato's cave and certain movies (like 2001:A space oddyssey, blade runner etc). Nowadays, they say it's a Tran Allegory as they are both Trans since The Matrix came out 24 yrs ago.

@@BobbaDons yes I know who they are and I know they have given million differend inspirations for the trilogy and hopped with the main-source for it. Still, it clearly is based on Simulation and Simulacra when they put the actors to read it as the Main book to understand the idea of the thing.

I am so glad to see you guys REALLY enjoyed The Matrix!!!!!! I saw it as a young adult when it came out in theaters and it really changed my life and how I think about my place in this world. I think it changed a lot of people's lives. This is a powerful movie with many different powerful messages...on top of that it was AMAZING to watch!!! Easily one of the best movies of all time. It instantly became a classic when it was released.

The Oracle was right! He was not "the One". She said, "you are waiting on something... maybe your next life." He died later when he was shot in the chest. In his next life (he gets reincarnated instantly) he IS the One. Suddenly he can: see the code, fight Agents one-handed, doesn't need to dodge bullets, he just stops them in the air, ...and can FLY!

I recall I watched this in a cinema in 1999 when I was about sixteen. When we walked out of the cinema, we were all so blown away from the movie. I remember looking around and thinking "Am I seeing the real world? Or am I in The Matrix too?"

This movie was inspired by Hong Kong action movies, Japanese anime, and a lot of philosophy (both Eastern and Western philosophy). This is merely the first. A lot of people do not like the other Matrix films (The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, and the most recent The Matrix Resurrections (which came out in 2021), there is also an animated series of short films called The Animatrix that fills in a lot of backstory. Personally, these films are in my top five favorite film franchises of all time. So glad you guys liked this one!

The sequels should be watched together in one sitting as they should be taken as a part 1 and 2, the Animatrix is one of the best animated films of all time. This film is also deeply inspired by queer culture; Neo is the Princess who needs loves true kiss to wake him up, the red pill is a reference to the estrogen medication trans people like the Witchowskis took in the 90s, and Trinity is the knight in shining armor who literally kills the first agent in the history of man kind. This movie is fucking awesome.

Rewatching it through fresh eyes, it’s easy to forget just how in the dark the viewer is about “What is the Matrix?” You don’t even know exactly how sci fi the movie is, and it ratchets it up so gradually most viewers are basically just worried Neo’s going to jail. “Tell us! I want to know too! We need answers!” 😂

The day The Matrix was released I went with a group of friends to watch Natural Born Killers, but that was sold out, so we chose The Matrix. I knew nothing about it. Had seen no trailer. And the only seats available were on the front row, so my neck was jammed back to see the whole screen. When they zoomed into the letters it felt like I was inside The Matrix too. And not once in the whole movie did I think outside the movie. One of my favourite movies ever, till this day.

The scene where Neo bends backwards to dodge the bullets is so iconic. It was even spoofed in a Shah Rukh Khan movie! If you've seen Main Hoon Na, you might remember it.

The Matrix is a movie that will stay with you for life. Their excitement in seeing this movie for the first time is so infectious that I’m beaming from ear to ear as well. I like how they were asking about the possibility of using mobile phone to escape rather than land lines. It shows the difference in thinking for the younger generation. Can’t wait to see what other movies you will show them. ❤

This one got them amped for sure! Naveed’s whistling made me smile, reminded me of going to see this one in theaters. People were pumped like that back when it came out, too! Keanu Reeves is a great action star, and by all reports a very chill, humble guy in real life. Of course, the John Wick quad is the next thing to put on their lists!

i remember when this came out, it was mind blowing for me and my 18 year old mates. i will never forget two of my friends playfighting on new years eve whilst getting ready to go out, i saw the look of true belief in my friends eyes, as he leapt from the floor to do a matrix style backflip/over the head bicycle kick, and i swear time slowed down as he hovered about 3 feet in the air, then came crashing down face first into the floor. dude had never done a backflip in his life, but for a moment he was so convinced he could do it thanks to the influence this movie had on him. i literally cried laughing.

I worked in the Sydney CBD and watched them film lots of this movie. I previously worked in the building where Neo’s office is (Australia Square), watched the two people hanging from the helicopter outside my off ice window for about a week and I used to be a regular at the nightclub where he first meets Trinity (Black Market). I love how one of the first skills Neo learns is Drunken Boxing haha.

Things that are universal, 5:47 is proof that you always have to dance a little bit whenever you hear "Dragula" by Rob Zombie. 41:23 is proof that you have to jump with joy when you see a M134 minigun in action. Incidentally in this case, both are involved with the USA. God bless it.

One thing people tend to misconept about the movie is that it wasn't just the Trinity's kiss that brought him back to life - it's him actually becoming the One. If you watched carefully, everything happened EXACTLY as told by Oracle: she told him he's not the one, but could be in another life; also she told that it's either Neo or Morpheus survives. And we see that after Morpheus was rescued, Neo gets killed, just as she said. And by losing his life, Neo gets another one as the One. His mind should've been extinguished first in order for his potential to kick, making him come back with a new powers and conscience.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time! It came out when I was 14 and I must have rewatched it on VHS tape 50 times. The boys don’t miss any little detail. It was so fun to watch them get so pumped as they rescue Morpheus and see Trinity fall in love with Neo.

One movie I would love for them to watch is Master and Commander: Far Side of the World. I think, since they like history, they would enjoy how incredibly accurate the film is. Especially in depicting what life was like on a British Royal Navy frigate during the Napoleonic Wars.

In America we call the act of carrying multiple guns instead of ammunition magazines a “New York Reload” like in the lobby scene. The quickest way to reload is to simply produce another gun 😅 Wait til they see the car chase in the second Marrix! They HAVE experience all three to tie it off.

The message of this movie is that our "real world" is actually a huge, MATRIX and we don't know it. When we ascend to a higher level of spiritual awareness, then we can begin to see what is real, and also see the entire physical planet is a simulation.

Anna & The Apocalypse is a great movie for Halloween or Christmas, it's a comedy/horror/musical about Anna, a high school girl, who has to save her family in a zombie outbreak in London during Christmas vacation. It's kind of like Shaun Of The Dead but with song and dance numbers like a Disney Princess movie.

In English, there is a computer term called a "cookie" which keeps track of what you search for and watch on the internet. Therefore, it's a computer joke when the Oracle gives Neo a Cookie. Also, Neo means New, and when you switch the letters around he is the One. Get it? Neo. One.

I watched the unedited version. Their reactions are truly genuine. I do not think they realised Keanu is aka, John Wick. I hope they inform them John Wick is Neo. I think they would be silently surprised that Keanu plays in some very good action movies. I can't wait for them to watch Matrix Reloaded with The Exiled Twins.

It still tickles me that this serious man of action became really famous in the role of a goofy, not too bright, but generally nice kid named Ted Logan. 😄 Knowing that Keanu is a genuinely good guy makes me that much happier that great things yet awaited him, which I don’t think he would have even had a notion of back then.

I enjoyed it just as much as the two of you, when I saw it in 1999, in the Theatre when I was 31 years old, and it's been the greatest movie of the last 24 years in my honest opinion, nothing else comes close! So many films have copied elements of The Matrix, but none have been like it!

When I first saw this, I was hoping for a few more more superman references, but I'm sure DC comics would not allow it. Telephone booths. Bullets bouncing off him. Flying. A different variation of Neo, but someone everyone had heard of, and was a legend written off as a mere comic book character by the machines so that no one would believe it. They could have described Budda, Christ, Mohammad, Hercules and others as the previous "ones" as well, but they left it alone so that everyone could think of their own take on it. Rather brilliant move, actually.

I remember going to cinema to watch this movie and not knowing anything about it. I though it would be just a random action movie before Neo took the red pill.

there were couple more movies that try to encompass such idea as matrix ... one was called the Dark City - the other movie was called - the 13th Floor
