Not *any* EF-S lens, but some. I did it with my EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS and was able to use it with my BMPCC 0.58x SpeedBooster; the IS evgen worked, though it really made a huge impact on battery life on my BMPCC. Some non-Canon EF-S lens are actually using the EF-style setup, just merely cover APS-C image circle, so they tend to work without modification, or so I've heard.

Right. Can confirm EF-S 17-55 2.8 and 24 2.8 working on the 0.58x. The IS does affect battery life a bit indeed. Only Canon seems to have that EF-S only plastic thing. Sigma for example releases their APS-C lens like the 18-35 with the standard EF mount.

I'm looking forward to seeing if there will be a SpeedBooster specific to the upcoming Pocket 4K. I'd also like to see a PL to MFT SpeedBooster some time; I don't think I've seen anything other than simple adapters for PL thus far. The GH5s and the upcoming Pocket 4K could certainly use those. Super35 PL to MFT should be possible.

Only Canon has EF-S. There won't be a BMPCC4K special speedbooster, the .64x one already takes it down to 1.21x so I don't know why you need one. And there's already a PL to MFT speedbooster.

Let me put it this way: Third party lensmakers carry APS-C lenses for Canon. There may be a special Speedbooster for the P4K because it's a 1.9x instead of 2x MFT sensor. Might be a special one coming for the GH5s as well, as they've implemented the sensor as multi-aspect. I checked and couldn't find a PL to MFT Speedbooster by Metabones, only adapters.

I'd love to make such a comparison but I don't know anyone (at least locally) that I can borrow it from. It's too damn expensive to just buy and ridiculous in rentals. I still look here and there to make a video about that :)

There are videos compering them. Apparently, optic-wise they are the same. The only difference is the wiggle you get with the Metabones (which Lucas mentioned). I don't see any reason why someone would spend $650 on a Metabones speedbooster. You can get the same results with the Viltrox for $125.

cavalrycome shame :( the BMPCC version has such a strong factor that it's tackling the edges a bit too much on MFT, so it's not really representive :( Nikon wouldn't be an issue, as I can adapt Nikon to my EF boosters too :)

AFAIK, you can change the aperture on automatic lenses when the camera is not capable to do it (like the old 2.5K BMCC). You need external power (Micro USB) then

With Lensturbo I vs II you mean Mitakon? Quite a few companies call theirs Lensturbo :o I never had the first version of it, I'm not quite sure if the v1 was even released for MFT (wasn't it only for E Mount?). Personally I don't feel the Viltrox has such a bad edge performance in comparison, especially keeping the other factors in mind. Yet funny enough, I dislike it for anamorphic setups because I get vignetting with an 58mm while the Mitakon won't give it to me, haha :) I have nolong lenses around, I really have to check with those.

I have the Zhongyi Lensturbo ii, at least that's written on the side. I thought version 1 for MFT had the blue spot issue, not sure if they had it for MFT tho. And indeed it vignettes less with scopes than the metabones due to the lesser ratio so that's beneficial. I just wish it had a foot so I could fly it on my gimbal with my rollei zeiss planar and scope (Zhongyi please make a foot version! ). I saw another comparison where the sides were completely smudged with massive CA compared to the same lens with a dumb adapter and bigger sensor. Since I don't always need infinity I'm thinking to get a cheap m42 to nikon adapter instead so I can fly the heavier non-nikon 50 mm primes. Btw did you notice a huge difference in 4:3 on the gh5 vs the gh5s FOV wise or is the wider ratio only in 16:9?

ichidomo it's definately smudgier than without an adapter, but compared to other adapters not terrible (as seen here). I think it also depends a lot on the focal length and aperture, I saw no lens perform well wide open on these things for example. The GH5s multiapect sensor is only making a difference in anything but 4:3, as 4:3 is the MFT standard; it's not bigger for 4:3, it only uses the available circle of light for aspects that are wider than that :) I do think that you have a tiny bit on crop on the GH5 because of the IBIS. If it wouldn't crop a tad, you'd have black borders when it moves

it could be that the yongnuo 85mm isnt compatible with adapters

S4k films my 35mm worked without any issue. Does yours have contacts? I'd try to tape the electrical contacts and try it like that, you don't need them anyway

S4k films do you really need someone to show you how to use some clear tape, a pair of scissors and how to apply that? :/ I can't recreate the problem so I can't know if it fixes it

I have the combo Gh5 + Sigma 18- 35 + Viltrox EF-M2 and it is doing noises while autofocusing. Are those noises normal ? Also there is a little gap around 2 mm between the sigma and the viltrox where I can move the sigma. Nice video btw, I love your content ^^

It's not crazy if it works for you :) I think Zhongyi also have an FD version, but sometimes the price is just too right :)

While certainly not in the edges, in the center you usually get a sharper image indeed. So compared to wide-open, you get the same amount of light with a sharper image

You mean the compensation for infinity? I don't think so actually. After all, it now fits all my lenses just fine (all hit infinity on the mark). If it has an impact though, it's still wider than the others which are all set up so I can hit inifnity on the mark :) I'm not quite getting what you mean with parfocal here as no zooms are involved?

@@amanieux ah I see! A lens might introduce some breathing but as I'm comparing only at the same focus distance this should be quite neglectable, as the breathing should always be the same. Maybe I try to compare at different focus distances to see if it has an impact (macro and infinity, the in-between is in this video (I think around 2m or so))

I literally have no AF lenses to test this with :/ where is the noise coming from, the lens or the adapter? Does it happen with other adapters too? A 2mm gap is really really much. Or do you mean you can "overtwist" it by 2mm?

2mm is crazy, but a bit of af noise is normal

With a focal reducer, you need to give the GH5 the resulting focal length anyway. So just do the proper math for the Viltrox and type that in :)

Lucas Pfaff right but I’ve been using the advertised focal reduction applied on the lens turbo for manual lenses. I’ve also heard the viltrox doesn’t play well with manual only lenses, is this true?

@@RhettThompsonFilm to a degree, every listing of focal length is an approximation; after all this even changes slightly when you have focus breathing. So the 0.3 difference shouldn't be too hard on the math of the IBIS, after all it must have some sort of tolerance included. What did you hear regarding manual lenses? I literally have nothing else but manual lenses and can't complain

Chinh Nguyen any should work. Just make sure that your lens doesn't go too deep I to the body (e.g. metal spikes), because that can hit the Viltrox and then it won't fit

It's not a very heavy lens, so mechanically I see no issues :) If you mean regarding the electronics, as I mentioned in the video I can't tell you anything about that :(
