I remember going to Dodger games with my dad and bringing our little baseball-shaped AM radio with us to hear Scully's calls. Will miss him!

Vin Scully is God's greatest gift to sports broadcasting. Arguably, at the height of his popularity in the 80s when he was also the main baseball announcer for NBC, I was producing a local radio sports call-in show and tracked Vin down to the Dodger's road hotel in Atlanta to see if he'd be a phone guest on our sports talk show at some point. He answered on the bathroom phone while taking a shower --- he thought I was his son who he was expecting to call. I was young --- he could tell. He was extremely nice and asked if I could give him 20 minutes and call back. He did the show the next week...on the phone for at least 30 minutes taking calls from listeners, etc. All the people I "tracked down" over the years were not always nice. None were nicer to me than Mr. Scully who was at the top of his profession at a time when Pat Summerall, Keith Jackson, Dick Enberg were at the top of the heap. The ultimate class act and the very best baseball broadcaster who has ever lived.

I am grateful that the Big Dodger in the Sky gave unto us this talented, genuine, classy, honorable man that is Vin Scully.

The man is truly a great basic person who loves life and baseball! We need more of this type of person in our society today! Thank you Vin! Stay well !

When asked if people will miss him, Vinny replied, "They're going to miss me for a little while ... I'll give them a year, and a year from now, younger people will say, 'Who is Vin Scully', and that's ok, I don't mind that at all". Vin Scully was a great man and a gift from God to all of us. May we all try to be like Vin everyday. As a Lifelong Dodger fan he filled my life with so many great memories. My Grandma listened on her little transistor radio to Vin. My Grandparents saw the Dodgers at the Colosseum in 1958

As a Mets fan It’s very special to listen to his call of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series announcing the famous “ Bill Buckner” incident with another baseball broadcasting legend Joe Garagiola. At the time in 1986 Vin was 57 years old and who would have thought he would still be broadcasting 30 years later. Thanks for the memories Vin in not only MLB but the NFL as well🙏❤️

I can remember the first time I heard Vin Scully's voice it was 3/31/98 and it was on TV but not in the way you might think it was in a video game didn't think much of it other than nice voice (his video game commentary was very basic until his last appearance in 05 it became a little more in-depth) and I said to myself I got to hear this guy more so I ordered the MLB extra innings package and from the first live broadcast I heard I was hooked and every year since I've ordered either MLB.tv or MLB extra innings his descriptive ability is one-of-a-kind (as a legally blind man I felt like I was in the seats at dodger Stadium) i've lost count of how many nights in the last 10 years or so I could put a Dodgers game on my computer turn the monitor off and still feel like I was watching every second of it here in Massachusetts he has made for a lot of late nights for me but I wouldn't have it any other way it is very sad that he's retiring but I wish him nothing but the best love that man

Gosh. Even at a press conference with questions being fired at him, Vin the orator extraordinaire takes his time and tells stories which have everyone in the room and on TV riveted. Simply the greatest on-air personality I've ever heard. Miss him so much.

Growing up in Los Angeles in the 50s: sunshine, Disneyland, the Dodgers, Vin Scully on the radio, didn't have to work for a living: I didn't know how good I had it.

Thanks for posting. From a Tigers fan, and a fan of Ernie Harwell, Vin Scully and his spirit was the last bastion of baseball on the radio.

The one disagreement I have with Vin is that bringing a transistor radio to the game was indeed a tribute to Vin. My first Dodgers game was in 1966 when I was 5 years old and my Dad & Uncle took me to see Koufax pitch (their way of babysitting). I noticed everybody had a transistor radio including my Dad & Uncle. I asked my Dad why everybody had a radio and he said: “So we can hear Vin Scully paint pictures with words that are better than what we can see with our eyes.”

Vin made my life better, thank you. It is the greedy Time Warner and Dodgers that I will never forgive for how they robbed me of a last few years of perfection.

When Vin was talking about Kirk Gibson I was thinking about a game with the Dodgers and Padres when he mentioned the word fertilizer when someone was cussing.

What a consummate pro. I pray that I'm that sharp if I reach that age. Melodious voice and an anecdote for every question. I personally wish he had continued and "died" with his boots on. That said, enjoy your retirement with your family. Slán agus beannacht Uinsean!

There's an underlying general tone of disrespect (or maybe just ignorance) from most of these reporters which I do not care for. Vin, classy as usual, answers every question with respect.

one of the greatest, arguably the greatest, i hate it when people like vin "thank god" for their accomplishments, it cheapens their talent and commitment to something that was simply handed to them, in vin's case i don't think he's really that religious, i think it's just his way of being humble, of course he could have just said he's been incredibly lucky or very fortunate, but an invisible deity chose him? please, take credit for what you accomplished vin, you can afford it for all you've done for the game. of course, i'm pretty sure the game and people like me will always love the way you put the fan and the game ahead of your own accolades and simply gave us your vast knowledge of the game. a real class act and the game is better because of people like you.

Joe Davis is replacing Vin??? The only one suited for that role was Charlie Steiner and Rick Monday with Kevin Kennedy taking over the radio. Vin is the voice of the Dodgers and Charlie is the radio voice of the dodgers. What a terrible mistake this organization has made. Not only did they ruin is for us with the Time Warner contract, but now they hire someone who, in my opinion, isn't the suitable choice.
