Vincent SV-500 🖤 My Experience

… now in a nutshell my phones battery died and this Vincent is a bargain from top to bottom. Sweet top end, open and engaging midrange, plenty of bass quality and quantity. It is dynamic and it is rich when it comes to tonal colours. 👌👌👌

Glad to see somebody reviewing Vincent. Interested in their integrated tube solid state hybrids. I'm beginning to think two systems would be optimal. Tubes for acoustical, vocals, Jazz and such. Solid state for loud Rock. Been considering upgrading for 6 years now! But when I have a properly mastered recording, I never find myself wanting anything better/ different in my sound system. Reading reviews gives me the upgrade itis itch, listening to my stereo cancels it! 1998 Technics sl 1200 MK5, 2m black cartridge in sumiko head shell, project tube box s phono preamp, audioquest interconnects, Onkyo tx8511 AVR, 3-way 300 W floor standing Cerwin Vega e712s and aperion super tweeters. Receiver has tens of thousands hours of use on it and is driven hard, gets hot! It has been and continues to be a Workhorse. It's sound is dramatically improved with my 30-year-old Technics graphic equalizer. My Onkyo six disc CD player has been 100% trouble-free also with tens of thousands of hours use. One review I read on the Onkyo tx8511 AVR said he had to spend over $2,000 to achieve better Sound. Not sure I'm ready to spend $2,000 to $4,000 to replace something that sounds great and is trouble free. I could buy a nice used 2-stroke dirt bike or two for that price! And the thrill of a two-stroke Power Band is incomparable, one hell of a adrenaline rush! Since I don't have a dirt bike because the last two were stolen from me, I will probably purchase a dirt bike instead of stereo equipment. But purchasing vinyl albums has been breaking my wallet!

It is superb. I've had one for 5 yrs.. Yeah, internal dac is garbage. I use NAD M51

Hi and thanks a lot for the comprehensive review ! How would you compare the SV-500 and the Technics SU-G700 in tone, dynamics and detail ? I’d love to hear your opinion. Is the Technics a step up ? Liebe Grüsse, Michael

Well it depends on the volume. At low volume I prefer the SV-500 in tone and especially when it comes to dynamics. Turning up the volume the SU-G700 takes it overall but especially in detail retrieval. Furthermore the built in DAC that comes inside the G700 is just miles above the one inside the 500. That is the only weakness of the SV-500 imho. Besides that I would choose the SV-500 over the G700. Yes the G700 is insanely clean n controlled sounding but the 500 is so enjoyable at any volume. I just needed a good DAC inside my CD-player or streamer, which I do. Just to put it into perspective, I really like the DAC inside the Node 2i. So I am not talking about the need to buy something expensive.

@@DigitalPhilosophers Thanks a lot for your detailed reply ! I’m running the SV-500 with Wharfdale Lintons and a Node 2i : ) Loving the combo ! But the Technics is just so visually appealing that I can’t dismiss it from my thoughts… I hope I get to to test it some day to satisfy my curiosity. Would you say the SV-500 is warmer in tone ?

@@michaelmettler5831 Simply yes. The 500 has a little bit of warmth to it while the G700 is neutral. As always it depends on the matching so give it a chance at home. I guess that’s always the best way to find out

Der Preisunterschied zwischen dem Vincent und dem S20 ist signifikant. Da passt schon Einiges an hochwertigem DAC rein... sogar welche, die in Qualität weit über der SA20 stehen.

Tell me which DAC you would choose for under 200€ I like the sound of the Pro-Ject DAC S2+ after listening to it at home preferring Filter No. 1 Did you compare both amps or is it just a guess Please no guesses by quoting reviewers I want to know about your own experience with a DAC and the SV-500 compared to the SA20 with its built in DAC

@@DigitalPhilosophers I made really good experiences with all of the following: - Topping E30, D50s - SMSL Sanskrit 10th mk2 - IFI Zen DAC - DIY solutions with Raspberry Pi - Khadas Tone Board etc. All of these will either match or even outperform the SA20's DAC, especially if you spend the extra bucks to get a linear power supply. (PS: I really do not like the Arcam SA series sound, I find it to be flat and boring. The sa10 and the sa20, which I both owned were amongst the amps I wanted to sell the quickest.)

@@georgedomse Thank you for the recommendations. Topping, SMSL and IFI are on my wishlist. I would love to have an all in one amp/speaker but for now the options are too expensive e. g. Naim Uniti Star. I really like the SA20 with the Vela and even more with Focal speakers. In my experience there is a night and day difference between the SA10 and 20 since they are decisively different inside However I prefer the sound of my Cambridge Azur 851a with the Pro-Ject DAC S2+ That’s an even better match with the Vela.

@@DigitalPhilosophers maybe you want to take a look at the the DAC's of Schiit. The Modi 3 is a great one, but the higher in tier, the better. Good luck with your choice!

Hi, as long as two channels are enough and you don’t need the built in DAC this is a great amp. Not soft, not harsh. In my opinion this sounds great as long as you feed it with a good source (and don’t use the DAC inside the SV-500)

All three are on par imo Best dac inside the 6000A no doubt Best preamp section inside the SV-500 The 356 is designed by BEE which makes it a classic imo

@@mykeldg if I still had my Focal Aria I would keep the SA20 using its own DAC. My Vela sounds great with the 356 using an external one. Unfortunately I didn’t try this Vincent with my Vela. The best amp I paired the Vela with is the Unico Primo by Unison Research.

@@mykeldg it has tonal richness never sounding thin. even with the vela that can sound thin in the midrange and treble it makes the vela sound vivid and sparkle. An organic tone probably due to the beautifully implemented tube preamp section
