it was actually dirty and sloppy back then, i grew up in that era too, but whenever i look back on it with these clips you can really see how far they've come in talent. Yeah there were some good players, but many, many more who weren't and just made the good ones look better. Today they are bigger, stronger, faster, and better skaters.

Grew up watching this era as a kid. I would watch games with my dad (who just passed away 24 hours ago 😢) after coming back from skating. These were the glory days and watching so many stars on both teams. Sittler, Salming, McDonald, Palmateer, Williams, Gainey, Lafleur, Robinson...so many memories as a kid. I hope I live to see the Leafs win the Cup before I pass away. I live in Australia now, and it's great to hear the organist play the classic Aussie ballad Waltzing Matilda !

Punch?? I'd lay the responsibility at the feet of Ballard!! That guy singlehandedly ruined the Leafs and they still haven't recovered. Sheesh, these Leafs had heart, grit, and determination. They took out the up and coming Islanders in the playoffs. They beat Boston with Sittler recording 10 points in one game! 6 goals and 4 assists ... he had a better season in that one game than many had in a years! 😂😂😂😂 A Boston team that would become backvto back Stanley Cup finalists.

When the refs use to let the players play and not whistle it down for a penalty every touch. As Pat Quinn said when he saw the gane changing "too many union games" meaning everyone loves everyone so the sheer rivalry has gone making the game a much more predictable same same game after game affair.

I love how the linemen get in to stop the fights before they start. Fighting shouldn't be allowed to be "part" of the game. If it happens, it happens, but don't stand by and wait for it.

I remember seeing players without helmets when I watched hockey as a kid born 1980, Im a leafs fan, and I think Brad Marsh was the last player I saw not wearing a helmet. Can you imagine if the game was played that way today?
