Looking at this list makes me realize how few games I've actually played in my life so far. I honestly don't think I could make a satisfactory Top 50 list without putting games I haven't completed on it. EDIT: So I've decided to try and piece together a Top 20, and this is what I've come up with 1) *Super Castlevania IV* (Something about it really clicked with me. I especially loved the music and visuals) 2) *Super Metroid* (Another game with great music and visuals) 3) *Super Mario Odyssey* (Simply the act of moving around in this game is a blast) 4) *Castlevania: Symphony of the Night* (The game I most recently completed. It'll probably move up to #2 in a few years once I play it again. But yeah, great in every single way) 5) *Hollow Knight* (Would be higher if it wasn't insanely difficult at points, but has incredible presentation) 6) *Super Mario 64 DS* (I grew up playing this game, so I definitely have a bias towards this game. I loved exploring all the weird areas and never felt bothered by the controls since I played it on 3DS) 7) *Breath of the Wild* (Open-world goodness. I loved how much freedom you had to do whatever) 8) *Mega Man 2* (Favorite NES game. Great music, fun gameplay, and OP Metal Blades) 9) *Pokémon Emerald* (The best Pokémon game IMO. I love exploring everything Hoenn has to offer, and it introduced some of my all-time favorite Pokémon) 10) *Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver* (Maybe the best presentation in a Pokémon game, but the level curve/grinding, and relative blandness of Kanto and Johto hold it back for me) 11) *Sonic Mania* (Not much to say, other than just how much fun it was) 12) *Super Smash Bros. series* (All games have their merits, so I can't really pick one) 13) *Mario Kart DS* (I wish the newer games still had Mission Mode and custom emblems. Other than that, gameplay is the best in the series) 14) *DKC: Tropical Freeze* (A good game, I just like the previous ones more) 15) *Super Mario World* (My favorite 2D Mario. The older ones don't feel as good to control and the newer ones don't have the same vibe) 16) *Pokémon Black and White 2* (I haven't finished it yet, but a great game so far) 17) *Pokémon Black and White* (Slightly worse than BW2. Not a big fan of the limited Pokédex. The presentation is great though) 18) *Pokémon Platinum* (I'd like it a lot more if the game didn't feel so sluggish, but it's still plenty good) 19) *Super Mario 3D World* (Refined 3D Land. It'll probably rise up on my list once the Switch port is out) 20) *Pokémon X and Y* (This game is quite flawed, but something about Kalos really appeals to me, so I can allow some grace. A Pokémon Z probably would've been in my Top 10)

Same here. I was born during the early 2000s and didn't start getting into games until the later half. I also grew up with only Nintendo systems since my that's what I liked most, so I already know there's a lot I've missed out on.

@@guyudontno7689 God, at least you got into gaming at an early age. I didn't get into gaming until i was 15 in 2011. I still have a lot to play, but not a lot of motivation to (maybe i've overwhelmed). It's because of this late start that I'm super attached to the 3DS, and it's currently my favorite console ever.

@@AmethystLeslie I would say don't let it get to you too much. I may not know what it's like to start at a later age, but I don't think there's any shame in it. The 3DS is a great system with an amazing library. As long as you enjoy what you play, that's all that matters.

This is such an interesting list so different then what I'd put that's just people and the fun of them. I've noticed Vinny seems to rank SNES games highly, I'm too lazy but if someone could organize this list by console it'd be some neat insight for myself and probably others of what consoles seem to be tied to someone's (in this case Vinny's) list.
@Slenderquil
@Slenderquil 3 жыл бұрын
I think that a lot of the most renowned Nintendo games are the ones on the super Nintendo, so I believe those games would be on many lists of this nature. Vinny definitely seems to enjoy them more than most others, but I still think that SNES has one of the largest lists of games that would be considered the best
@BlackBleedingRoses53
@BlackBleedingRoses53 3 жыл бұрын
I think it has a lot to do with what consoles were out when you were a kid. Vinny was born in the 80s, so he was conscious for/able to play the SNES, and a lot of his first/more formative games were likely SNES games. On the other hand, I was born in the early 90s, so a lot of my pics are more related to PS1, various Gameboys, and N64 (in fact, I think the NES and SNES games that make my list were all rereleases for the GBA). I also have fond memories of older consoles, but that's really only because my parents were both gamers and had sega/atari consoles, so my earliest bab memories were of my mom playing phantasy star 3 on the genesis. I wouldn't surprise me if people born in the mid 90s, are more attached to the Gamecube, PS2, and xbox, those in the late 90s/early 2000s more to the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360, etc...

Making a list like this is insane. I have a hard enough time coming up with a 10 top list for myself; I can't imagine having to decide on where to place 50 games in relation to one another. Props to Vinny for being able to do this.

It’s honestly very wholesome seeing Vinny explain to us what his favorite games are, I do feel like chat was a little jerkish towards all the Nintendo stuff when that’s just what he grew up with and that favorite lists are going to be different from everyone else’s, people just need to accept that. I’m glad he shared his list as it really shows how much passion he has in what he loves, it’s very admirable and fun to listen to him being so passionate about the games he likes!

This is my list, not a top 50, but just a few favorites :) 1. Minecraft Words cant really describe how i feel about this game. Ive been playing periodically since 2012, and i dont see myself stopping anytime soon. The memories that I’ve had and will make this 100% my top game 2. Ftl: Faster than light This one is more obscure, but i adore the atmosphere and challenge of this game. Ive sunk probably about 3000 hours in and can safely say I’m one of the best players. My most nailbiting and hype moments in gaming came from here and will probably never be topped. 3. Outer wilds This is easily the most atmospheric and beautiful game I have ever played, and has by far my favorite story of any game. Im just sad ill never be able to experience it for the first time again. 4. Mario kart wii This game is the one i have been playing for the longest. Its been 15 years of me playing it and it has never not been fun to me. Has the best feel and mechanics of any mario cart and is always a blast whenever I play it.

I'm so happy to see Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 on the top, for me is the best game of my life since I grew up with it, the soundtrack touched my heart and I cried so much times with the story (every time I hear the Luma's Sacrifice Theme I cry very hard) I hope to see Vinny playing SMG one day, a full playthrough like he did with SM64 a few years ago would be so good

Me too, I grew up playing both games as a 10 year-old, and Rosalina’s story book always made me cry lol. Plus, as you mentioned, the music in both is astounding (e.g. Gusty Garden Galaxy music). Honestly I don’t think I’ve been alive long enough/played enough games to even create a top 50 list, but for me, Galaxy 1 & 2 are definitely tied for first place.

Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite game of all time, I remember always loving the exploration of Toy Time Galaxy and Freezeflame Galaxy, just losing my young mind in these immersive worlds. I didn’t understand Rosalina’s storybook back then, but the music associated was still pretty emotional for me, in a nostalgic sense. Then I actually understood the meaning far later, bawled my eyes out, and recognized it was my favorite game and childhood experience. Also as a sucker for monster designs I loved looking at all of the weird enemies, I made a Tarantox Lego when I was a wee lad and a few others

I'm surprised that him, or anyone for that matter, can come up with a list like this. There are so many games that I hold dear to my heart and person, EVERYTIME i have even tried to make something like this I keep remembering excellent titles that break the Top 10, 20, 25, 50.... It never ends. It is never a "constant". He forgot a few there like Skies of Arcadia and Portal 2 but even so. For now... I can just say for sure that MOTHER 3 is my favorite game ever (NO SH!T REALLY OMG I'M SHAKING) but even then, one of the many reasons I love it is because I got to play the two _previous_ games beforehand and the way it all wraps up at the end is beautiful.

You've got a really solid list. Like, good games all around. Inspired me to make my own yesterday so here's my personal top 30. 1. Paper Mario TTYD 2. Super Mario Sunshine 3. Luigi's Mansion 4. Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story 5. PKM Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Darkness 6. Animal Crossing New Leaf 7. Minecraft 8. Super Mario Galaxy (1 and 2) 9. Super Monkey Ball 2 10. Splatoon 2 11. Yoshi's Island DS 12. Rayman Origins (DS) 13. Pac Man World 2 14. Mario Kart Double Dash (followed up by DS) 15. Breath of the Wild 16. Sonic Mega Collection 17. Sonic Colors 18. Ocarina of Time 19. Pokemon Ranger 20. Kirby's Epic Yarn 21. Stardew Valley 22. Kirby Mass Attack 23. Oneshot 24. New Super Mario Bros (DS) 25. The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon (fight me) 26. Drawn To Life (+ Next Chapter) 27. The Legendary Starfy 28. Kirby's Return to Dreamland 29. Skyrim 30. Hades HONORABLE MENTIONS: Journey, Abzu, Poke Park, Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer >:), and MANY OTHERS. You may be like "WHERE'S FINAL FANTASY 9" or "WHERE'S BANJO KAZOOIE" and ask "DO YOU HATE THESE GAMES BECAUSE THEY AREN'T ON YOUR LIST" but this list is for games I have PLAYED and mean a lot to me. I love Chrono Trigger, I love Half Life, I love Majora's Mask, the list goes on, but I've never actually PLAYED those games. I love them for the stories and the characters and the atmosphere and the music, but I personally categorize them differently then the games on this list because, well, I've never played them. I always wanted an N64 but never could get my hands on one, so in turn I missed out on PLAYING a lot of those games. I do love a lot of them though, just for different reasons. I could probably make the longest list known to man of games I love but never actually played + games I love and HAVE played, but that would take a long time and I already probably forgot some games on THIS list. Anyways thanks for reading my dumb list. :)

I'm glad Vinny has a more nuanced view of Final Fantasy VII. I replayed that recently, and it was good in a lot of parts but outrageously frustrating in many parts as well which dampened the experience. I feel like a lot of people froth at the mouth over their rose-tinted nostalgia of that one, and it can unfairly raise expectations for people revisiting it years later or playing it for the first time.

@@ryaningram9387 My big problems are as follows: 1. Sidequests. Golden Chocobo, Fort Condor, trying to get the omni-slash at the Golden Saucer, all of them. They're extremely long winded, and in some cases (Golden Chocobo) the most cryptic and unintuitive thing in all of gaming. The minigames also, while novel, weren't good. 2. Post game content. Kind of bleeds into sidequests, but the super bosses were way too extreme. The amount of grinding needed blows away super bosses in all other FF games. 3. Grinding. The amount of grinding needed to get max level materia, level 4 limit breaks, etc is INSANE. The game is fairly easy though, so I think a good compromise would have been a more difficult game over all with an easier time leveling materia and getting limit breaks. 4. Materia combos. I love the idea, but your options really don't open up until two thirds through the game, and even then there aren't THAT many combos. I wish Kirby 64 style, there were weird and creative combos with everything. Really, for most of the game, your only real options are to combine an All materia with some magic, and then for synergy, throw the Long Range, Protect, and Counter materia you get early on all on one character, but it's not really a customized experience when anyone with any common sense would be doing the exact same strategy. Notice though that I never said anything about the story, art style, or music. The game absolutely excels in those regards, and it was the only thing that got me through it when I revisited it again.

I think theres a lot of series where thats really fair. Like the DKC trilogy on the SNES are all the same engine, its just like level packs. In an alternate timeline the sequels could've just been DLC. I think it's especially fair for repetitive franchises, where every game is basically the same but "better"; like Mario Karts, or Smash Brothers, Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2; I mean each generation is generally treated as a single game, even if the third is a year later and improved.

Seeing alot of people's top lists of games is always interesting for me. Gives you a generalized insight into not just what genre preferences someone has, but also on what standards those are crafted on top of. For alot of the kind of stuff that would dominate my personal top 50 list, it would largely be focused on very brisk, arcadey games. Ones you can just pick up and put down and then pick up again. To me, a really time consuming type of game like an RPG has to be really outstanding in order to get my fullest attention, as alot of the time, I get more from a game I can get a more immediate satisfaction out of. Here's a rough sketch of what a top 50 for me would look like with alot of games within each 10s bracket being generally equivalent in terms of the appreciation I have for them in my books. (Split into 3 parts, because I'll be damned if I let all this writing go to waste). *S-Tier - The Best of the Best* *#1: The Binding of Isaac* A game I have slavishly dedicated myself to over the last 4 years, with over 1300 hours on the game as of writing and one achievement short of 100% completion. One of the most replayable games in history with a fantastic roguelike setup that the entire genre that it helped popularized has never since come even close to scraping in my books. *#2: Dark Souls 1* A game I can just about start whenever and have completed within 1-2 dedicated sessions. A game that makes the most out of it's simple mechanics and is so thick in atmosphere, I just end up lost in it's world whenever I pay it a visit. *#3: Skullgirls* As a dedicated fan of fighting games, it doesn't get better than this in my books. The chaotic 3v3 fighting game arrangement put together with such attention to detail, the team's passion for fighting games oozing out of every member of it's richly rewarding character roster. *#4: Resident Evil 4* A game so good, it defined the way shooters would be played for well over a decade. The game's schitzophrenic development history helped contribute to make it a game so full of energy that it has no dull moments, all packed in some of the most gratifying gunplay in all of video games. *#5: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night* Vinny puts it best. Besides having one of the most enjoyable and well-designed metroidvania maps out there, it is that absolutely insane level of detail that gives Symphony it's edge. *#6: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood* One of the most intelligently designed platformers ever made by sheer virtue of making the classic Castlevania control scheme never seem unfair or annoying, the only thing standing between Rondo is the fact that Symphony of the Night just about barely edges it in quality in my opinion. *#7: Transistor* One of the most enriching story experiences I've had with video games, the one-session marathon I had with this game initially was unforgettable. Every time I play it, I end up leaving it feeling better than I was feeling before. *#8: Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past* Being a bigger fan of 2D Zelda, this is by far the best of the bunch in my opinion. Then again, I suppose I lack alot of experince with the series in general, but I'm glad I've played this one out of all of them. *#9: Sonic CD* The best Sonic game in my opinion, with some truly fantastic explorative level design, a crazily flashy visual flare and not just 1, but 2 incredible soundtracks attached to it. *#10: Tekken 5* The very definition of nostalgia to me. The peak of Tekken by a mile with so much content, some of the best story modes for characters in the series and the turning point when they had absolutely nailed the control and feel of the games. While future games would go on to fine tune the series mechanically, none would reach the same level of engaging content and charm as 5. *A-Tier - Top of the Line* *#11: Galaga* The absolute textbook example of 2D space shooters. Another game I can't ever find a reason not to play. *#12: Doom (2016)* One of the best revivals of a classic game franchise in history, not only emulating elements of the classics, but also iterating upon them and evolving the formula in directions that almost always felt like an improvement. *#13: Cave Story* Just a game that really puts me in a mood every time I play. Every year, I always have at least one moment when I feel this insatiable itch to pop this game in and play. *#14: Castlevania 1* A true classic among classics, the formula of Castlevania doesn't get too much more pure as this. Despite being one of the most air tight, excellent entries in the series, it's few sour spots are just sour enough to make Rondo the undenyably better game to me. *#15: Metroid Zero Mission* What gives Zero Mission the victory over Super for me is simply the improvements in controls. They really do end up making a huge difference. It's another really great metroidvania with that trademark Metroid moodiness that absolutely helps make the series stand out. *#16: Super Metroid* That being said, I could never disregard the qualities of Super Metroid. Despite it's slightly floaty controls, what really helps Super Metroid is that dense, almost oppressive atmosphere. *#17: Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus* The first two Oddworld games are near inseparable to me as an experience. Another game with a thick and powerful atmosphere, this one in particular is heavily influential in shaping my imagination as a child, so it holds a special place for that reason. *#18: Bioshock* An absolute triumph in video game narrative. A game which's ultimately fundamental gameplay and inbalanced difficulty are compensated for by it's enriching atmosphere and worldbuilding as well as a brilliantly realized story that actually manages to incorporate the medium of playing games into it's storytelling that feels natural and meta without breaking the immersion from the story. *#19: Megaman X1* A highpoint of a series as classic as Megaman has to count for something. It's a blend of some of the X series' best level design and structuring, one of the best soundtracks on the Super Nintendo and one of those few times when "re-inventing the wheel" ended up working out wonderfully for a franchise. *#20: Final Fantasy IX* Only now do we get to the first traditional RPG, but if there's one that deserves it the most, it's this game. What ultimately makes this game is just the writing, which is to me some of the best the series has ever had, perfectly balancing a big narrative with interwoven themes, lovable characters and an overall fun and interesting personality of sorts as far as writing goes.
@AlluMan96
@AlluMan96 3 жыл бұрын
*B-Tier - Bonafied Classics* *#20: Rayman Origins* Another one of those legendary revivals of a classic formula. In some ways it's even more impressive than Doom's efforts, as it goes on to completely reinvent the approach to Rayman design that ended up becoming it's defining face for the modern age. *#21: Persona 4* An incredibly unique RPG experience that between it's presentation, soundtrack and style of storytelling radiates with a very strong, personal flavor. To me, this is the peak of the series, reaching a perfect balance between the sharp writing and the mechanical functionality. *#22: Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin* The only other metroidvania Castlevania I've fully experienced, oddly enough. Regardless, it was an absolutely fantastic game that compared to Symphony learned to balance alot of the mechanics that ended up making Symphony so baby easy. It's only downfall in comparison is how I don't think the Metroidvania map design is as gratifying in this as it is in the others. *#23: Dig Dug* Not a whole lot to say, really. Just another one of those classic, incredibly replayble Namco hits. *#24 God of War 3:* The peak of God of War's gameplay structure, only hampered by it's relatively lackluster role as a conclusion to the classic series. *#25: Bayonetta 2* Probably one of the only other games that can rival Resident Evil 4 in it's absolutely relentless pacing, seemingly devoid of any slow-spots or boring moments. While it isn't the revolutionary re-inventor of game design like RE4 was, Bayonetta 2 is regardless an amazing game, may very well be the best spectacle fighter out there. *#26: Tekken 3* Another heavily nostalgic game for me, the only thing that Tekken 3 really has against it is that time has certainly worn it over the years, especially compared to entries like Tekken 5. Still, it was a benchmark at the time for the series and may be host to some of the best of the series' content from character roster to the introduction of Tekken Force to the sheer existence of Tekken Ball. *#27: Bastion* As Supergiant's first foré onto the scene, it was clear that they were still working things out, as it lacks the impeccably tight structure, pacing and refined gameplay of Transistor. Regardless, it was nonetheless a very captivating narrative game that set a fantastic groundwork to what the company would go on to perfect moving to Transistor and finally to Hades. *#28: Diablo 2* The best game I have never actually finished. That is the only reason it doesn't quite make the cut higher. I don't like giving mountains of praise to a game I can't say I've finished. However, having gotten quite far into it and with having Diablo 1 completed, it is clear to me in just every way the sheer brilliance behind it's design and the leaps in improvement done between it and Diablo 1. *#29: Cuphead* Easily the golden standard for the "Boss rush" game model. It's energetic and almost rhytmic gameplay clashes nicely with it's gorgeous presentation and simple to understand mechanics and it knows just how far to push it's difficulty to motivate players to keep at it. *#30: Castlevania: Bloodlines* Sitting somewhere between Rondo of Blood's refinements and Castlevania 1's occasionally unelegant design, Bloodlines is nonetheless a very solid entry that I can thankfully say has finally seen the light of day on modern consoles thanks to the collection they put out recently. *C-Tier - Rough Diamonds.* *#30: Marvel VS Capcom 2* The definitive 3v3 fighting game, it's flashy spectacle, ridiculously large cast of characters and legendary status are only let down by the massive elephant in the room - the total joke that is the game's balance. Still, it didn't stop me from pumping hour after hour into it and still pulling me back for another ride. *#31: System Shock 2* Age has certainly made a fool of this game. From it's hideous late 90s 3D to the horrifically archaic game design, there are alot of layer of rust to look past when trying to appreciate this one. If you manage it however, what you will find underneath is a very engrossing game with that thick atmosphere I love so much and a quite decently engaging bit of sci-fi horror that hits all the familiar notes just right. *#32: Medievil* Another game that age has not been kind to, this one makes it on parly due to nostalgia, but also because of it's sheer sense of style. Writing, visuals, soundtrack, gameplay, all contribute to this undeniable charm that oozes out of every second of the experience. *#33: Metal Slug 3* SNK games have this unfortunate reputation of being complete and utter quarter-munchers and Metal Slug as a series entirely is the personification of that unrelenting quest for your money. Still, I cannot deny how satisfying the fundamental game design is and those visuals are some of the best there are. I chose 3, because I just really like it and has some of the most memorable moments for me. *#34: Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link* Yes, I am one of the people that would consider this one of their favorites. At the end of the day, Zelda 2 is a very solidly designed game with a very strong core gameplay, only let down by those select moments when things get utterly bullshit. *#35: Risk of Rain 1/2* While different games altogether, I feel that alot of their positives and negatives are comparable between each other. Where Risk of Rain succeeds is being a roguelike that manages to craft a difficulty curve that continues to pursue the player, never truly letting the player just coast unless they know precisely what they are doing. In that, however, there are some gears that clash and sometimes the game can get outright silly with how much they just throw at you. *#36: Streets of Rage 2* A beat-em-up, through and through. Monotonous, mindless and money-munching, but still incredibly satisfying to play. What makes Streets of Rage is it's very sleek style and personality that the game manages to convey through it's 90s attitude and kickass soundtrack. *#37: Terraria* Hitting alot of the same beats as your typical metroidvania and mixing that with Minecraft's explorative design was ultimately a very strong combination. Just that the game's idea of challenge can be very lopsided and feel iffy at times. *#38: Resident Evil 1* Incredibly basic? Yes. Scary? Not in the slightest. Improved upon by every subsequent entry? Yes. Still a damn important game and a fun experience? Absolutely. *#39: Nuclear Throne* Mixing the intensity and insta-kill nature of Spelunky with the top-down twin-stick action of something like the Binding of Isaac may have some clashing of gears from time to time, but this is an absolute classic of a game and the fact that Enter the Gungeon of all games still managed to become more acclaimed than it genuinely makes me sad. *#40: Thief 2: The Metal Age* Much like System Shock 2, there is about a million tons of late 90s jank you gotta go through to get to this game, but I believe there is a genuine magic to it once you get past it. It's one of the only stealth games that really demands you fully commit and tests your ability to sneak more than any other before and even since.

*D-tier - VERY personal choices for favorites* *#40: Clock Tower: The First Fear* An incredibly basic, short and simple adventure horror game from the SNES days, this is just one of those games that really came to me at the right time. Being still rather young when I discovered it online, it was scary enough for me at the time that it helped get me into the whole horror thing and defined alot of my horror path from then on. Even today, I still appreciate it for being a brisk and enjoyable romp that wears it's love for horror culture with many nods to the genre, specifically of a Argento-tinged Giallo flavor of horror. *#41: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream* By no means what I would consider a "good" video game, it's one that sucks me in with it's incredibly bleak story and sharp writing. Being a fan of the original short story certainly helps, but this is just one of those games I come back to from time to time in order to experience again, even if I usually need my trusty guide in hand for it. *#42: Darkseed* To round off the crusty point-and-clicks trilogy, I can't justify this one. Darkseed is bad. But... I am a fan of H.R Giger and this game's aesthetics are nothing short of eye-candy to me because of it. *#43: Borderlands 2* There are alot of reasons to hate this game. It's a repetitive game, it's writing is obnoxious and it has some dirt in it's history, what with the whole Colonial Marines situation. Even so, I have managed to get so many hours out of this game over the years and me and my sister have spent many a hundred hours on it. Even the objective gameplay improvements of Borderlands 3 couldn't capture the same magic of 2. *#44: No More Heroes* Unlike Borderlands, this is a clunky game that absolutely manages to lean entirely on it's style. It's sense of humor, relatively short length and gameplay that doesn't ask for much makes it a very approachable game in alot of aspects with just enough quality mixed in to make it a very enjoyable ride from start to finish. *#45: Shandalar* Being a Magic: The Gathering game, it is one that is quite frustrating in many aspects and it's old 90s PC jank can certianly be felt. However, I deeply admire this game for it's ambition in making a fully fleshed out trading card game rpg. It might make me rage at points, but I keep coming back to it, because it is at the end of the day fun and offers an experience unlike any other. *#46: Earth Defence Force 4:1* Mindless to the very core and stupidly simple in it's design, it is nonetheless a spectacle of a lifetime. No other game even strives for the same level of ridiculous insanity as this game does and so many of the things that would usually make a game bad like how it chugs it's framerate to death are simply the elements that make it charming to me. *#47: Tempest 2000/3X* It's just Tempest 2000. As a game, it is incredibly simple with not a whole lot going on. However, it still is Tempest fucking 2000, just as insanely addicting as ever, even if it isn't what you would necessarily call a must-play classic. *#48: Bushido Blade 1* While effectively nothing more than a proof of concept, it was regardless a very impressive proof of concept. It's a shame this never caught on, as I absolutely loved the concept of a 1-shot-kill fighting game that demanded this level of attention and caution in every fight. *#49: Robotron 2084* The grand daddy of twin-stick shooters, much of what I love in games like Binding of Isaac or Nuclear Throne has rubbed off on me here, even if it is just a game I play in short bursts. *#50: Tales of Symphonia* A bit clunky today and a bit thick on the "anime", it is still a game I like coming back to from time to time for it's memorable cast, fun action RPG gameplay and decent amount of replayability with the different character routes.

What about Castlevania 3? It was much more challenging, had some even better graphics and music, has multiple paths & playable characters.
@AlluMan96
@AlluMan96 3 жыл бұрын
@@OrionAltHist That "More challenging" is where Castlevania 3 in my opinion drops the ball, actually. I don't have that much fun with Castlevania 3, I find it too damn oppressively difficult. Castlevania 1 is hard, but it gives you room to breathe. I can sit down with that game and be confident I'll see it to the credits by the end of the session. With 3, it's a case of how far can I get before I just throw up my hands and say "fuck it." I believe the original Castlevania 1 to be a more tight and well-designed experience compared to 3. That, and alot of it's more unique elements, while something I cannot deny were quality additions that revolutionized the series, have been iterated upon and done better in future installments. Sure, you have multiple paths with alternative stages, but in a game as frustrating as Castlevania 3 can get, it's like a choice between a flick in the nuts or a smack to the back of my head. Whereas Rondo of Blood has not just splitting stages, but also multiple routes within individual stages to vary the playthrough. As for the characters? Honestly, I never really liked playing them. Grant is the only one I actively keep around and play with, because he has utility I can't get out of Trevor while simultaneously not starving me for hearts the way Alucard does. Between the games, I would rather have the choice of Maria in Rondo or Eric in Bloodlines. I still think the game is good, but it's not one I find myself dropping everything I am doing to flock to. I have to be in a specific mood to play that game compared to Castlevania 1, Bloodlines or Rondo. If it were to be put into a top list of games, I'd say it'd fit somewhere in the top 70s.

We would get along. Also I've long thought vinny would love the persona games (NOT STREAMING THEM THOUGH) too good to pass up tbh. Vin if you see this. Peep persona 4 and p5royal. Most memorable jrpgs I have played.

@@markpfeffer7487 That'd be awesome, but I think he said in his Akira video that he doesn't feel comfortable with the high-school drama anime stuff (which is like, half of every Persona game since P3), so I don't think he'll enjoy the newer Persona games until he slowly moves outta his comfort zone. However, I think he might enjoy P1 or the P2 duology. But tbh, I'd love to see Vinny play SMT Nocturne, I think that'd be a blast. Maybe when the HD remaster releases he'll play it. Fingers crossed!

Considering he was basically peer-pressured into playing Mother 3 I was so happy when around the 2nd stream you could tell he was really getting into the game and genuinely enjoying it. At the first stream the chat was insanely toxic and backseating and spoiling everything too, only Mother 3 could win somebody over despite all that.

Great list. Since you ended up enjoying Bloodborne I'd recommend giving Dark Souls 3 a shot. It has fast-paced combat like Bloodborne while also taking the best aspects of previous Souls games and weeding out some of the "weaker" ideas. It's (very) arguably the best Souls game in my opinion (and I'm saying this as someone that likes Dark Souls 1 a little more lol).
