I saw Pantera and actually they showed up at a bar and it was my birthday and I got to party with them and they all signed autographs for me and Dimes was the coolest he wrote happy birthday 1 time MF…. Fast forward to Hellyeah days I saw them several wand at each show they came out other venue to fans waiting and took pictures and signed autographs and I was lucky enough to catch Vinnie Paul’s last drumstick he threw out to the crowd in Kentucky and I still have my autographs, the guitar pick that Dime personally gave me and the drumstick that I caught from Vinnie…. Hands down they were class acts metal heads and they loved their fans.

I’ve seen almost all the great and legendary drummers…Bonham, Watts, Palmer, Bruford, Chambers, Aldridge, and dozens more. But none more important to me than seeing Vinnie with Hellyeah. When he walked onstage, twirling his sticks and laughing, my son was pointing at him with his jaw on the floor, basically speechless. Amazing privilege to see him play live.

2:45 truer words have never been spoken. Then once the Abbott bros passed away, Phil came back and steamed ahead with new members. That is why I can't bring myself to go see the current lineup, whether Zakk and Dime were buds or not - it just ain't right.

What kills me about it is all the so-called "friends" of Dime and Vinnie lying through their teeth about how the brothers are happy looking down on this farce of a "tribute." that's what i hate most people who r seeing them don't understand. vinnie felt betrayal from what phil did, and then to lose his brother and then phil wants to come back around?? that was why he never forgave him. not saying not forgiving was the best choice, but i get why he didn't and held it against him until he died. but now that he's dead, phil does this move where vinnie can't speak out on it anymore? why didn't he do it when he was still alive? 🤔 just something to think about

A lot of people on here, commenting that this was a Pantera tour. I have seen Pantera twice, the real Pantera, in 1997, and again in 2001 both times Phil was a raging lunatic on stage, demanding perfection from the crowd, as well as drug induced shit talking of things that I will not repeat here. I also saw Pantera at a “reunion “show” and I will say this much, it was the best I have ever heard Phil‘s voice, and the best live show. I have seen him perform of the three. Sobriety is a good thing, and in the end, this was not Phil and Rex trying to be Pantera, but it was a tribute to the past, and a tribute to the band. Every song was played as it was on the albums, with very little live ad Lib. It was very very fitting. And I think a lot of people get it wrong when they call this a tour, but it is a tribute to the band and its legacy. I choose no sides in what happened, because I have no dog in the fight other than I was a fan. I had my opinions of Phil, but I liked the music. The reunion, for lack of a better term, is pretty much just a tribute to the bands, former glory and should be treated as in my opinion. But as far as the shit talking in the press? I have a guitar world magazine, where dime was talking shit on Pat, and that he was a terrible singer, and at least Phil could “make him money.”

...Another 20 years later, after Vinnie reuniting with Dime in death, Pantera's legacy lives on through Phil, Rex, Charlie and Zakk. Though everyone knows it's a tribute band at best, even with such big names. Yet, it started as a passion project and passion is what Pantera is about, I was happy to have seen them live once again ... how times have changed, Rex stopped drinking, Phil calmed down... Learn more about rock history. The Doobie Brothers toured for years with no original members. Pete Best did a solo album called "Best of the Beatles" that had no Beatles on it. It was a pun. Some industrial band once changed their name to U2's newest album and made an album called "U2" and released it the same day.

It really just comes down to personalities,. IMO anyway. And personalities can clash, explode. Being in a band is one of the hardest things anyone can do. Decisions about money, music, band direction etc.. can easily cause tension. It’s like going into business with 4-5 of your closest friends.

Res Hot Chili Peppers seem to all get along pretty well. Anthony and Flea have been best friends for almost fifty years, Chad has been the drummer for 36 years, John has been the only inconsistent member, and that's just because he doesn't really deal with the fame very well. They might all have their own personal demons and questionable history, but they're one of the only huge rock bands I can think of that have all been friends for 35+ years.

there is more stuff and happening behind the scenes that some of that all 4 band members took/will take with themselves to the grave. Vinnie used to be a major asshole sometimes, rex too, alcohol plagued the Abbott brothers till the end,and loss of his brother drove VP even more to booze. ofc not mentioning phils addiction and a boiling point happening when he overdosed on heroin on their homecoming. Rex was also a major snowplower when it came to drugs. All these fans screaming about how they spoke to vp/rex/phil(not going to add dime here because he is a saint confirmed) backstage for 15 minutes for all of them being so humane and laid back, but we don't see the everyday thing. The remaining abbotts and phil recalled that rex's book is abt 50% bullshit with him speaking down everyone else in the band except himself, but in the gibson interview i guess he got a little closer to the turht about everyones behavior during the downfall of pantera. If you really start to dig down into the subject as i did one night, you will find alot more info about the band. After all it was and severely mentally deranged person (his mom bought him a gun for his birthday wtf) finished the unraveling of pantera because he thought they stole HIS music. - i realized, holy shit thats alot of text xD Well anyways i hope more people who think a single invidual is at fault for the events that took place in the final years of pantera will see this. It just bugs me that there is so much diversion in opinions of who is at fault when it is clear as day that it was one schizophrenic piece of shit who was the final nail to the coffin. all of those guys had their own difficulties. But yeah quoting phil when he said something along the lines of "there is what he said and what he said, the truth is somewhere in the middle."

Phil had the other bands, that's not good for most bands, doesn't work.. even the behind the music made years ago, roadies & others talked about how they were pulling apart when Phil was in a lot of pain & needed surgery. Just becoming difficult to be around after Driven, wouldn't take time off to get surgery & recover, and he admits it in later years. I hold nothing against any of them. Almost definitely, it didn't make Nathan Gale into a monster but he'd have probably fixated on another target and hurt someone else. It doesn't make Phil culpable though, how could he know? But geez, so many things could have happened better than the way it went down.

Eh. That may have tarnished the Pantera name even more than just disbanding. It's pretty clear that the Abbott Bros wanted to sell out and do nu metal. Damageplan was not very good. It wasn't any better than any of Phil's cringey side projects. It's like the Abbott Bros wanted to sell out and Phil wanted to just do unlistenably noisy projects for "metal cred". Both were huge missteps. Nu metal and buttrock were such a problem at this time.

People kinda forget the Abbott brothers weren’t exactly angels during the success of Pantera. A big part of why Phil and Rex broke off and did Down together was they were tired of the constant micro managing the Abbots did. Pantera was maybe started by then Abbots but they alone didn’t contribute to the success of the band. Without Rex and Phil it wasn’t gonna work. I think a lot of the bad blood was started when they saw the success of Down with Rex and Phil. Nothing could be bigger to Pantera for them. Rex and Phil went on good side bands and projects and the Abbots did not. It’s not about picking a side it’s about being objective. Go back and look at interviews in 96 on. Pantera was not a band that was gonna survive too many more years. Nobody just didn’t wanna say no to the money.

Well? That's not how theoretics function, because the calculations required to enter every single event would render any alignment impossible to track, and cherry picking from hindsight is self-serving. But being in his place, your own regrets would surely keep you awake at night trying to convince you of your hand being involved. A big reason we need to face our own demons and hold ourselves accountable when we first recognize them. Otherwise by pushing them down on the inside we keep them alive, and they will grow and feed on things that do not belong to them until the day you face true struggles, it will come up from the depths and lay claim to all damages as it becomes you and shoves you down into the deep inside where it was in hiding just barely alive. This has now become your fate.
