I commented prior to Christmas about going back to baking (I had quit when my granny passed). Since then I have been trying to find some of the books from which she started teaching me (I was around eight). After much research and questioning of some relatives, I found one of them! It was the Best of Home Economics Teachers Bicentennial Cookbook, published in 1975-for the upcoming bicentennial year. See what an inspiration you have turned out to be! Not to mention that you are just a joy to watch. My husband sends his thanks as well, lol. Keep up the good work. It is appreciated....

My husband and I met each other while working at Half Price Books! He has been there for 23 years now. We had a customer there who sold us more than 100 of his mother's cookbooks from her estate, a fabulous collection. I went in on my day off and bought about 30 of them for my collection! Found a fantastic little one called Miss Mary's Down Home Cooking, an old cookbook by the woman who ran the boarding house next door to the Jack Daniels distillery. Every recipe from that little book was fabulous - including her recipe for Jack Daniels based BBQ sauce. She did not allow drinking in her house, and it was the only reference she ever made to whiskey. Look for it! ❤❤

Props to Meta Given’s gray hardcover Modern Family Cookbook, the “main” cookbook in our kitchen when I was a kid. I’m pretty sure it was a wedding present to my Mom in 1956, though I’m not sure how often she consulted it-or any other cookbook. Probably only during the holidays. I thrifted my own copy a few years ago. A reliable, unfussy resource.

Love your videos! Love old cookbooks! I am a mid-century model, born in '57. Watching you brings me on a journey down memory lane. One of my favourite Pillsbury Bake-Off recipes came from an advertisement in a woman's magazine in the early '80's. Italian Zucchini Crescent Pie. It has become a family favourite. I've been making it for well over 50 years with two small changes: butter instead of margarine and Dijon instead of yellow mustard. I know you're a zucchini fan (I've watched them all!) and this one is well worth checking out. Can't leave a link here- look up Pillsbury Italian Zucchini Crescent Pie. Best brunch/lunch dish.

I live in California now, but I grew up in Indianapolis and I used to love going to Half-Price Books. In fact, I still have most of the books I found in their stores. Since I hadn't heard anything about them out here, I assumed that they didn't have any stores on the west coast. But your video made me so nostalgic that I looked up their website, and lo and behold, they have 5 stores in CA and one of them is only an hour away from me! Next weekend, I'm taking a little road trip and scouring the cookbook section. Thanks for the video and cool finds!

The Humpty Dumpty on your children's cookbook was the mascot for Humpty Dumpty magazine, which was also published by Parents'. It was a little half-size magazine for kids with all kinds of fun little puzzles, stories and crafts. I don't think I had a subscription as a kid, but every now and then an issue would float my way. His cute face is definitely a childhood memory. According to Wikipedia, it's still in publication, but Humpty looks different!

Love the cook book hauls. I just recently found a small paper cook book from a 1949 Food Pageant cooking school presented by my citys local news paper. It was held at the Orpheum Theater in Springfield, Illinois. That theater was unfortunately torn down in 1965 to make room for a bank. So sad. But, this little paper book has 30 pages of recipes plus the covers open out with cooking tips and a section for "men only" on how to care for large pieces of meat like rib roasts, pork loin, and leg of lamb lol. Apparently it was thought that these may be to large for a lady to handle. I paid $3.00 for it.

Awesome! I get so excited when you feature a book that I have!!! I have several vintage cookbooks, but I started looking around for more after watching you! I was born in 1957, and graduated from high school in 1975. It is so strange when you mention a book being "vintage" from that era. My very first cookbook is Betty Crocker Dinner in a Dish, copy right 1965. I was home alone when a guy came to the door trying to sell me a vacuum cleaner, (this was 1975). He said I'd get a free cookbook just for letting him show me the pitch. I was 17 I think. I still have the book. It's where I learned how to make beef stew~ I still make it the same way! Also, recently I found a small (5 x 7) copy of The Gone With The Wind Cookbook. Have you seen this one? If you are interested I could send the extra copy I just found at a thrift store. I found my other copy at an antique store and paid $15 for it!! Then just the other day I found the exact same for $1 at a thrift store!!! They are both in excellent condition. LOVE your channel!

I had a cookbook collection I decluttered a few years ago. I still have a full shelf, but donated several. I do regret donating a box set from, gosh , I think the 30s. They smelled weird and I just wasn’t reading them. They were SO cute though, different pastel gingham covers. Oh well, someone was probably excited to get them. I recently found a couple newer books and spent $3.50 on them. One is a 2012 Nestle TollHouse year-round recipes and a 2009 worldwide church cookbook, for my church! Anyway, they’ve been fun to go through. The church book includes church people in North America and other continents. 😁

Have you ever seen The American Woman cookbook? It’s an incredible one. I believe it’s a 1935 edition. My mom had one and I used it a lot growing up. It’s green color. We don’t know what she did with it. Looking for one
