What a release from Bertucci! Today, we are introducing the Retroform, a classically styled WW2 field watch with modern upgrades, and it's powered by a USA accurate quartz movement. Super light, due to its composite case, this might be the best field watch entry we've seen in a long time!

Collected for 43 years and I can say this was the only watch I ever brought that shocked me in terms of both its quality, specs and price. I have done a lot worse and spent a lot more. Stand out feature I adore? The domed plexi. Best I have seen since the 50's - and I can actually SEE this one! The thickness & quality of these Bertucci ZULU straps is unrivalled too. Thanks Mark.

Great American brand. I own several with the Miyota quartz movement (watches are all assembled in Illinois). Great to see them add an American movement now !

That’s a nice looking watch. And, if you’re actually going to use a field watch in the field, quartz is the way to go. Also, the 100M WR is nice, because so many field watches seem like they’re barely splashproof.

The signature feature of bertucci watches that attracted me is having a recessed mineral crystal, it makes for a really durable, do anything beater watch. I think this minda misses the field watch mark by having a huge domed, really exposed, soft acrylic crystal

Nice! I LOVE Bertucci watches (I already have 4 of them, all acquired from Long Island Watch btw) ... and the solid Poly-Carbonate seems to be ultra light and comfortable on the wrist. I really like the fact that they have solid lug bars b/c it’s a “peace of mind” feature when wearing it during outside activities like yard work. Thanks for sharing Marc ... they indeed did a bang up job on this one.

I bought a "Defender Drab" Bertucci Nylon strap from Amazon, to go with mine. This strap has black buckle & keepers to match the watch case. I always feed the strap under the lug-bar beginning at the 6:00 position, instead of the conventional 12:00. That way, when I take the watch off, I can close the buckle, & then I can set the watch on a tabletop to stand upright like a little bed-side clock, resting on the strap's keepers, which will be under the 6:00 position.

Yep a lot of watch manufacturers seem to be trying to make their website "an experience". People that care enough about watches to actually go to a manufacturer's website just want specs, a few photos, and a price that's not harder to find than Waldo and then listed in wampum.

I’ve had the Japanese Mvmt version of this watch for years and I’ve loved it. Last week I took it off to try on a different watch and my puppy got it. I was about to order the $65 replacement on your website, but saw these with the American movement. I really want to support the more American product, but have a hard time justifying more than double the cost for what is, at the end of the day, virtually the same watch. Both movements are all-metal. One is just assembled here vs in Japan. I’m honestly leaning towards getting the Japanese movement.

Nice mini tutorial on the synthetic crystals you mentioned. Read about Ameriquartz in About Time, and very admirable to see these quality quartz movements manufactured here. in US, Great review.

Looks great, at a fantastic price ... but in the close up it looks like the hands were hitting between the indices (unfortunately like many quartz watches) ... a shame really looks great other than that.

$140 actually seems reasonable. It doesn’t punch above it’s weight imo, but it’s a good watch for under 200 bucks. Not my style but I appreciate watches like this

I was in the US Army in 1973 and saw the watches that were issued. They were really little, could not have been over 34 mm.

Not quite the field watch for me, I prefer this particular mil-spec style in a slightly smaller size. That said, I still think this is an awesome watch - I love seeing American-made movements in more and more watches these days. And the 4:00 crown is a super cool tweak to this classic design.

Hello Marc,, oh yes, Bertucci is awsome watches. I have an A 3P as a beater and it does take a beating as I used to work on city buses among other types of vehichles. It's been soaked in old motoroil and drenched in antifreeze and got smacked about and it hardly shows on the case. It has a Miyota quartz and it's accurate to about 3 seconds /month.

Nice watch in it's own rights, especially with all their selling points. It's not for me however, that said field watches aren't of much interest, I'd prefer a Gshock for field activities. I can see these selling well to those it suits so fair play 👍

@@LS1007 sure I understand that, but the dive bezel is added functionality if you perfer the field style face. And you just don't see that combination, but I think it would be appealing to more people then just me. It's not against any laws to combine the two or anything ☺

@@paulx7620 Indeed, I concur. My personal favourite "field watch" in my collection is a Seiko solar fieldmaster they put a bi directional countdown timer on the bezel. Very useful.

The dial looks like that of a Benrus from the Vietnam war but not the case, the Benrus had a crown at the 3 o'clock position

@@islandwatch Cool. I just think it's so cool. Timex backlighting in a watch with a real steal field watch case. I like Timex watches but it's so disappointing for a lot of their watches that they don't use actual steel in a lot of their cases. I had a crono expedition that I really loved...and then the "steel" started flaking off.

I applaud the USA innards and it's a really great looking piece but at 40mm, it's a hard pass. A field watch should be absolutely no larger than 38mm. Oh, and 14mm thick is absolutely absurd for a quartz watch. I mean damn, there are mechanical automatic chronographs that are thinner.

The closest to an all-American watch would have to be the Timex American Documents... Except it has a Swiss quartz movement. Everything else is manufactured here and assembled here. I don't know if Timex has abandoned the project, but now that Ameriquartz has gotten going, they can start putting those movements in there and it would truly be 100% American made. But honestly I don't think it made as big a splash as people at Timex expected because they were asking customers to pay $500 for a quartz watch with Gorilla Glass crystal (which was their only option for American made).

I like the look of this but bertucci's problem is the lug length is too large. 49? Really? Ridiculous. It fits larger than it should even though the website says "Fits all". And while I'm not totally against acrylic crystals, I think that one is a miss. It should be at least recessed. A huge domed bubble like that is asking to be scratched, and their oil and scratch resistant coating, which sounds similar to modern eyeglass lenses, would be messed up if you tried to repair a scratch using polywatch.

BERTUCCI is a Italian name, the case has U.S PAT., USA movement, Swiss luminous, SS back, and A-2RA case. So where is it made / assembled? Why leave that off the case back?

Marc, I'd use another watch from Bertucci to highlight. The second hand is not aligning correctly. I can't buy a watch if the basics are out of whack.

It's an OK watch. I'd rather buy the Seiko 5 which is less expensive and not as big and bulky looking on the wrist. I'd rather buy your field watch also.
