We love old drag cars, the rougher the better. We found this vintage funny car body on Craigslist locally, and couldn't resist it. Before we even hauled it home, I started researching and documenting the body's history, and was able to trace it back to day one. It started life with Tom Finlay running in the BB/FC ranks, then got passed around to several owners until it landed here in Tennessee. Check out the "Dream Quest" funny car, and see its complete history on this episode of Hot Rod Hoarders.

One thing to add. Each person you talked to about the history of this car, I'm willing to bet $$, YOU MADE THEIR DAY! We are all happy and proud to tell someone our story. Each one of those involved got some, or a lot, of happiness in sharing with someone else whom cared. I think that needs mention. Thanks for ALL your efforts!

The lay down cars of the late 70s and early 80s look so bad ass. The injector hat was above the green house . My pops was 5,3 and I always asked him how he could see. He always told me I can’t but as long as I can’t see the end of the track I know I’m driving straight 🤣🤣🤣

When I was 10-12 years old, I went to a swap meet with my father and saw "The Plastic Plymouth" '64 Valiant funny car roller for sale in the car corral. I fell in love with it, but the price was beyond my 10-12 year old net worth. I always remembered that car and it appears to still be around, as an internet search turns it up as I remember it (minus engine).

Back when everybody and their neighbors had a funny car or dragster sitting in their driveways. It was quite common to see 30-40 of each at a local strip, and drag racing was still actually interesting.

This video popped up in my "Recommended" feed and what a find. As a regular at Atlanta Dragway back in the 1970's and 1980's, I remember this car with Tom Finlay. Tom also owned a 79' S&W Dragster called Tequila Sunrise and don't quote me on this but I think he ran a 410 Keith Black Hemi. Kinda cool learning some of the back story. Sad to hear Tom just came to an end. RIP Tom. Sure miss those old FC days of long smokey burnouts and lots of dry hoops. Thanks for a great video.

I absolutely love the the funny car's I grew up watching them race!! I have never understood why they went away from them other then the safety issue of possibly not being able to get out of it in a bad crash with fire but there are tons of ways to fix that and I'm sure someone did use a break away roof or something of that nature . Pro mods are neat but not nearly as fun to watch or look at as the funny cars !!

Just wondering if you found any connection between "The Wizard" painted on the rear window and Tom Akers and/or Dave Sebring? I ask because Akers ran some BB/FCs with Sebring at the wheel in the 70s and 80s. Even though Akers was from Arkansas, Sebring was from the Akron, OH area (at least that's where he lived when I met him in the mid 70s) which is not too far from Niles, OH where Ed (the sign painter) lives.
