I once got pulled over back in 1988 for 131 mph in a 55 mph zone. I was driving my 1988 Supercharged MR2 in the middle of nowhere New Mexico. The officer asked why I was going so fast and I told him I was seeing how fast my MR2 would go since the speedometer went up to 150 mph. He told me he clocked me at 131 and would it go any faster. I said no as I had been flat out for a bit. He handed me back my license and insurance and told me that he had done the same thing the prior year when he bought his new Mustang! Good to have a cop that understands and loves cars. He told me to slow it down as he had some friends up the road. It felt like I could walk faster when I set the cruise control at 59 mph! I got pulled over in the same car a couple months later in Arizona for 126 mph but that's another story. I didn't get a ticket either time. That was in my crazy, younger years!

Not sure if it’s still true but 25 years ago in Montana there were no speed limits. My fastest was 165mph in a 55mph on a motorcycle, (1000 Ninja and it wasn’t topped out) I was arrested and jailed plus the cop kicked over my bike. I had sliders and drop rails on it so no damage except the mirror. They let me pay with a cheque which I canceled when I left the jail and credit card at the impound which I also reversed. I got calls monthly for 2-3 years from various collection agencies until I went bankrupt. I did end up paying in cash for the two days worth of food I ate at the police station though. (They did buy the meals at a local dinner so the food was pretty decent but expensive and I was pretty broke at the time). I had to stay in jail until the cheque cleared but my bank allowed reversals up to 72hrs later.

@@chrissi.enbyYT There is 1 law that a number of the states here in the US have that I really REALLY wish was strictly enforced as much here as it is in Germany (at least it is on the highways/Autobahn) & that is the left lane is for passing only, not cruising! Once you have completed that pass you must get the fuck back over to the right. Want to just cruise in the far left? Well these hefty fines will surely make you reconsider that choice!

Cruising along in a run from Knoxville, TN, to Naples, FL (10hr28min) when I was doing 125MPH south of Atlanta on I75 south. Had a BMW pacing me about 15 car lengths back when crested to see a Georgia State Trooper pointed at us. We both blew by, lifted as we seen him shoot out, pull a 180, and make chase. I seen him pull behind the BMW behind me, we're both 70-80MPH, now, and I see the trooper keep nosing out to try to see me, still a good length away, as he was pulling over the other guy. So I thought to myself, "Well, if he wants to give me a ticket, I better earn it." My exhaust was illegally straight piped and my tint was beyond limo, so I wouldn't have isolated the event to one ticket. I floored it and roared away. A few miles up the road there was an exit and, since I did need fuel, I decided to get off. No sooner I pulled into the gas station, unable to even insert the nozzle into the filler because of the adrenaline shakes, did I see three Georgia State Patrol cars traverse the overpass, sirens blaring, at a very high rate of speed. Composing myself to finish fueling up, I got back on the highway and finished the short drive to the Florida line at approximately 55 MPH (in a 70MPH zone). I would have not been able to sit down for a week if they'd have pulled me over that day and thrown me in jail. Yes to be stupid and survive. . .

I fucking floored it to the next exit, got off and parked at a Taco Bell. Dunno how he never found me but man... plausible deniability, I don't know for sure he was coming after me but I'm about 99% sure he was lol.

I was doing top speed pulls after tuning my old mk4 GTI a few years back after work one night. About quarter to four in the morning and southbound on an empty expressway I got up to about 142 before lifting. That part of the story is just to set up that the rest of my drive was at about 95 in a 65, and after that it felt like a very reasonable speed. Came around a bend and saw a highway patrolman on the other side of the highway angled to radar through a gap in the barrier and he had me dead to rights at almost 100. So I maintain my speed and lane as if I didn't see him, all the while watching him in the driver side mirror as he crosses the gap to my side and starts to accelerate. By this time I signal to exit as if i wasn't at DEFCON 1. I take the ramp that sloped down, and as I dropped out of the officers view I put the pedal through the floor and got back up to 110 before burning my brakes at the intersection ahead. Turned off and went dark, coasting with no power steering or headlights into an apartment complex as cherries and berries flew by on the surface road behind me. Be safe out there!

Drove 13 mph over on a sunday past some closed bussinesses and a school that has been out for the summer for weeks. Got a ticket for 13 over. There are happy cops and then there are sad cops. I was on the way home in my Challenger (supercharged 392) and this guy on a Harley had his wife on the back, neither of them had helmets on and he would not leave me alone. I decided I was sick of him being so close to me and screwing around so I buried the pedal. I'm on a 70MPH bypass and I'm going, we'll say something in the three digit range and it hits me, there's a dirt berm coming up where the troopers love to hide so I let off the gas and start braking. I crest the slight incline and I glance down it's still in the mid 90's and I glance to my left and there's the trooper. "Oh hell, I'm going to jail" was mumbled numerous times. I slow down and pull over before he turned his lights on. The Harley also pulls over, maybe 400' behind me. The Trooper pulls up beside me on my drivers side and shouts at me through his passenger window *You need to slow the fuck down!* I resoundingly agreed with him! He points ahead and says *GO*. And go I did! pretty sure that Harley owner was not as lucky as I was. As I pulled away with the grace and speed of a sloth, I watched the Officer back his car up to the bike. That's my story!

Eff me, in Virginia I am pretty sure this would be life in prison without the possibility of parole. In our neighborhood we had some trouble makers, one robbed an ABC store with a handgun and the other got busted for reckless driving for racing. Want to guess which one went to jail and which one got a fine and community service? Don't speed in VA.

I was with my brother in his '16 Corvette and we we're traveling down US-75 in Texas near our county line. In our county, going 50+ over the limit is just a hefty $350 fine but the county we we're going into, their laws are broken. And by broken, really broken. 50+ over the limit is a day in jail and $500 dollar fine. The speed limit goes from 70 to 60 so us going 115 we pass a cop immediately after passing the county line. And that's how I went to jail for a night at 18. Hardened criminal here boys.

Try 155/35 in Boise, ID. Just beat an SS in my GTO, when my buddy saw a cop turn around to follow us. I made the next turn to Orchard and punched it, all lights were green and somehow there was no cars. Cop said it took him 8 seconds to get to the light and by the time he got there, he couldn't see me anymore. I had parked and they had at least 10 cop cars sweeping every street in the area looking for my car. If only I had a garage or a car cover I would have been fine, but they found my car about 2 hours later, put the dog through it so it smelled like German Shepard for months afterwards, called my first sergeant on base, who calls me and tells me to go back to my car because the cops "just want to talk to me." Well I ended up getting booked and bailed out right away, and got the reckless driving dropped but it got me kicked out of the Air Force because they were doing a rollback, cutting 26,000 people and that single phone call to my first sergeant got me an LOR (letter of reprimand) which got me out on the rollback. Luckily the cop didn't have his radar on or his lights or siren so he could only charge me for a reckless driving. When we were walking back up it was funny to hear the cops making fun of the officer who couldn't catch me. He was pretty upset when he talked to me. The officers questioning my friend were just asking him about how much power the car had and trying to see how fast it could go and saying it was faster than their police cars.

In VA I at age 23, got tagged 168 in a 55. I had no idea he was after me because I didn't see him, but about 2 miles later at the convenience store that I had stopped at, he finally caught up to me. I was being written up for reckless driving, reckless endangerment, failing to obey highway traffic signs, improper equipment, .... etc.... etc. I was sitting in the back of the cruiser when he told me he was going to have to arrest me. Luckily the police chief owed me a big favor. I told the cop he should call the chief first. He called the chief and was told that because of all of the chaos, to go ahead and write the tickets as he normally would, but make the speed 78 in a 55 and to not arrest me. I got my tickets and was left to go on my way. The court said my license was suspended until I paid the $10,000.00 (rounded off) that I now owed. Three weeks later I walked in to put money on it, and I was told I owed $350.00, I payed it, got my license back; and nothing more was ever said.

Sounds like "George" The Cop and the Lawyer have a nice little extortion enterprise. I got a speeding ticket in Dallas when I was 16 or 17 and a friend of mine at my high school told me about an attorney that took care of tickets for $35. Sure enough, the Lawyer saved my ass and the ticket never appeared on my record. This happened in 1969 so the cost would probably be $200-400 now. It was money well spent.

North Texan here, and let me tell you, the cops here are literally bloodsuckers that'll do anything to meet their quota. I was driving my blacked out Camaro one day and a truck on a 3-inch+ lift kit flew by me on US380 doing 100+. I, of course, got hit with lights and sirens. Pencilneck little punk state trooper hit me with a 100 in a 55. I had my military ID, student ID, and explained the truck passing me, but nothing worked. If it weren't for a badass traffic attorney I hired that very next day, I couldn't imagine the disaster that would've unfolded. Since then I've made good friends with dashcams facing in and out. Can't trust anybody these days.

Depends, there is a main road here in my city locally, tri lane both directions, its a 35MPH at certain area's, and 45 at others (VA). I've easily done 70 on that road, and see people who go 50-60 all the time as it leads directly into exits for a high-way. Ironically my GF recently got popped a few days back doing 50 in a 35 (on that road), so, I wouldn't call total bullshit, never know the circumstance.

Coming home, late at night buried it in 3rd gear, 120 in a 40 when the road lit up. I'm not talking about a flash light or even a speed camera. I had been watching so much X-Files at the time I couldn't think of anything else other than a spaceship tractor beam could cause this, then I realized the light was following me! At this point I about shit my pants, I'm swerving around with my head out the window and lo and behind a helicopter has me spotted, I started frantically covering up all the gauges in the car and I was just like... what's next? Is he gonna send someone to get me? So I sit, look out the window and I don't see or hear anything after a minute. Now I'm 5 minutes from my house but there is no way I'm going back there, I end up taking the most convoluted dark twisty wooded path to evade any possible tail. I don't know if it was news helicopter or a police helicopter, but the rest of the drive I looked like a Goodfellas Ray Liotta driving around and more paranoid than ever.

I can’t believe they will just change what the speed was AFTER they’ve written the ticket. Here in the U.K. you’d likely lose your licence (automatically considered for anything over 100) and you _might_ be looking at time in prison. Fines are only vaguely linked to speed I think but are now linked to your income. Guy who has the record for speeding in the U.K. at 192mph was charged with four counts of dangerous driving (presumably he did similar speeds on multiple occasions), banned for 10 years and given two years in prison.

My wife got a 110 in a 65 in CA. $1200 fine, month suspension and our insurance went up to $350 a month for three years.

Yeah I was a sheriffs deputy and she was a dispatcher too. No way to get out if it. The judge laughed at her and she started crying in court lol. We couldn't leave our insurance company cause no one would take us. $350 a month for a stock v6 mustang and a pos old honda truck. Live and learn I guess.

lesson: never buy a v6 mustang. they only make you get tickets and you cant outrun the cops.

John Gray Did she plead guilty or have the speed reduced?

she pled guilty. Theres no way to defend against that. I told her to beg for mercy from the judge. That was her best chance. Chp is on point. Its hard to fight a speeding ticket.

Got pulled over doing 120 in a 55. Didnt admit to anything, and played dumb. Cops weren't sure they had the right car, and I got away without even a warning!

Very good point. Ironically, this ticket was 3 days shy of the 10th anniversary of the last ticket on my record.
