My cousin was strangled to death. The lawyer set up a clock to show the jury how long it took to kill her. I think that shocked a lot of people, not realizing how long it takes. The lawyer pointed out that he had a long time to change his mind about killing her.

It reminds me of the play, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" by Tennessee Williams. In it, the main character's friend lies to him about his wife, accusing her of being a cheater. The main character assumes that a dying man, especially one who is his friend, would never lie. The big twist at the end is that he did lie, and he was actually a terrible person deep down.

I can't imagine someone's last act on this earth being a lie. Everyone already knew he was a murderer, so it's not like he could convince anyone he was a good person anyway. Huge narcissist. Also, he mentioned starting a fire in his letter. I wonder if he considered burning her body and then made up starting a fire to keep her warm as an attempt to explain away that evidence.

@@keawarrenYou are SO right. These guys always start out as the ideal boyfriend, so they can make the victim rely and depend on them. They build her up, make her happy, then start to subtly separate her from family and friends. So far as I've ever heard or read, "they" didn't buy a van; Gabby was the sole legal owner. It seems typical of Brian that he demanded to drive it and generally be the boss of both Gabby and her van, and in the end, stole it and her credit cards to get his murderous carcass back home.

My ex was abusive and he did this same stuff to me: belittling me and my dreams and accomplishments, pushing me away from my loved ones and many other things. His parents similarly protected him by hiring a fancy lawyer to fight my protective order tooth and mail to where I was forced to drop it and they financed a major fight against me when I left him. These parents that do that are more sinister than the abuser and while I survived it was just a matter of time before my ex would have killed me too. He did leave me with broken ribs and a head injury but I have healed and led a wonderful life since then. These people are disgusting and despicable. They could have done the right thing and had his take responsibility while still hiring a lawyer and rather they just pretended Brian did nothing wrong. Scumbags.

Maybe he chose not to be honest because to do so would have been to paint her in a bad light. He would have had to admit he snapped and killed after non-stop tantrums and rage episodes where she attacked him. She was the biggest part of the problem in that relationship. Maybe on account of his guilt, he made something up that portrayed her sympathetically rather than accusing her of being the problem. They didn't do anything, they were never talked to that night by police, and the cops threatened to arrest me if I didn't "calm down". They say "your boyfriend says you take medication for your mental health, right?". It's for PTSD. After that I knew I was screwed. This case triggers me so hard. I have experienced exactly what Gabby was going through and the fact the cops don't listen to her or understand how abusive the relationship was is really terrible. It is so obvious that those police officers are definitely at fault for not catching it and they need a shit ton of training because what happened in the bodycam is super clear to anyone who knows anything about domestic abuse. There is not one woman that I have spoken to that didn't see the abuse loud and clear. If these police officers are responding to domestic violence situations (a big part of their job) they need to do better. In any other profession the failure to identify a gigantic part of their remit would be totally unacceptable. If the abuse was so obvious to laypeople watching the bodycam then police have no excuse for not catching it too. Also, one of the police officers who deemed Gabby to be the "aggressive" party is a domestic abuser himself.

This was an excellent retelling of the Gabby Petito story. Thank you for doing her the justice she deserved! The Moab police were attempting to be kind to them, yes- but they absolutely ignored the warning signs, minimized Gabbie’s hurt and the bruises and redness that were on her face. They also made a huge deal over a few scratches on Brian, claiming he was the actual victim & putting him up in a hotel!! The fact that the Laundrie parents knew as much as they did (they admitted during the discovery for the lawsuit with the Petito’s that Brian did call them and say Gabbie was gone and he needed a lawyer…) like really parents- what did you think that meant???? Gabbie lived with the Laundrie family!! How on earth can you just turn a blind eye to your son killing your “future daughter in law” that lived in your house??? Ugh. It makes me so angry and upset. I hope Gabbie is flying high as an angel up there in heaven, and I hope Brian is suffering every day down there where he is. 💔

Look up the stats of MMIW in Wyoming while the entire world was obsessed with this case and prepare to be mortified. It doesn’t decrease how tragic Gabbi’s murder was, but the volume of resources and media coverage of her disappearance and the search for her is the most crystalline, disturbing case study in how MWWS overshadows and draws all resources away from MMIW due to media influence.

The video of Gabby should be required training for officers and women so they can understand how to identify women in abusive relationships. That cop questioning her was victim shaming and it nauseates me.

@LeanneFowler-ms5xc 23 күн бұрын
Of course it did. It also offended me also. Especially can not stand anyone being condescending to me and would have told the cop that I wanted to speak to a lady officer, since they are usually more understanding and actually listen to the problem and not make a snap judgement like male officers normally do. I also find that most male officers are so conceited also. Often, they look up and down the female getting stopped or arrested.

Hi Jiles. Can you do something on Miya Marcano - a young woman who was the victim of a stalker and disappeared around the same time as Gabby and also not far from where the Laundrie's lived in Florida. Unfortunately Miya's case got drowned out in the media due to the Petito case but it is just as tragic and the man who ended her life is also a monster whose final days had similarities to that of Brian Laundrie.
