From its point of view, a huge monster hundreds of times its own size just picked up the bird when it was at its weakest, presumably with the intention of eating it. The bird was helped, yes, but it was still a chick, and knew it was an easy meal at that moment. Stop judging wild animals by human standards. We have it easy compared to them, you know, not having any natural predators and all.

Yeah, it looked like a fledgling to me, but I don’t know much about birds. I’m not a bird person. Mostly plants and common pets. A rehabber is important in case this is an invasive species and will damage native wildlife. Not to mention other species of birds will put their eggs in other birds nest only for their baby to murder the mamas young.

I'm so glad you pointed this out. It is so wonderful to see such a good dog that is clearly loved and well trained. There are too many videos of people allowing their dogs to run up to wildlife, who don't listen at all, which the owners don't even try very hard to make them listen. The poor wildlife ends up unnecessarily stressed even further from the interaction or even injured. I've been in wildlife rehabilitation for most of my life, starting with helping my aunt and uncle care for critters at their rehab. Now doing my own thing. The vast majority of animals we get in are animals injured or orphaned by someone's pet dog or cats. And although they seem apologetic that the animal is hurt, they seem to find it funny telling us about how Mr. Naughty paws just loves chasing and how they can't stop natural instinct. But they can, and should as our pets are domesticated and have no business interacting with wildlife. Sorry for the long ranting. I am hoping to spread awareness to the dangers and negative effects that our beloved pets can have on wildlife and how important it is for us to better train our dogs. Not a single one of my dogs go after the many little critters to visit our property, as they were all trained very well. It's possible, and this video shows it. I'm so happy to see a fellow responsible dog owner.

It looks like a type of border collie. They tend to herd and not hunt as much. I do have to say it is well trained. I have a Shiba Inu I got to listen to me. They are known to hunt and trust me... It was not as easy. Trust me, breeds make a difference 😂

I'm not sure that's gratitude on their faces. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not diminishing this guy's act. But most animals can't tell the difference between someone saving them, and a predator. All they know is that they, somehow, survived, and don't really understand why, but they're still scared that they'll be attacked again. But to do kind acts, not for gratitude, but for the sake of kindness itself, is perfectly fine

Well, the chick is probably dead now. Mother birds reject then if they have the human stench from touching it. Edit: apparently this is indeed a myth, but they still fare better if you just leave them when they're not in a dangerous spot, they will still get fed by their parents.

Also, from what I understand, most baby birds found on the ground aren't even in need of help, so maybe leave em be and just check back. Though apparently repeated human visits can make a mother bird abandon her nest and hatchlings, though I'm not sure that would happen at this age or how this species might differ.
