If there's a case to be made that aliens roam among humans, then Virgil fits the criteria. It must have been tough on Virgil when Holdsworth died--another fellow alien. Give thanks that they collaborated!

I have commented previously, albeit in a hopefully humorous way on this video. I now comment having had the chance to listen to Ruination in it's entirety, mainly under the influence of a small amount of alcohol, and using headphones so not to freak out my wife and neighbours who do not have my exquisite musical tastes. This album is not of this world, and surely no human being could possibly be responsible for the incredible music here. Well, no aliens just Mr Donati and a bunch of people who can really, really play the hell out of their instruments. At the ripe old age of 66 I have been enjoying wonderful music for over 50 years and as I advance in years, I am frequently thrilled to hear new and incredible music such as this. My heartfelt thanks, Martin PS - ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC MUSIC!!

Anyone who thinks this isn't musical has likely not yet mastered counting in sets of 4, let alone anything more complex. If you ask me, stream-of-consciousness stuff like this is far more musical than any of the oversimplified crap that's on the radio.

Otherworldly as usual . . . Hate to nitpick, but in bar 258, I don't believe he correctly accounted for cosine being negative in both the 2nd and 3rd quadrants . . . Other than that, the transition from 11/25 to 37/53 was spot on.

@@kirkarnold9255 a song has a minute level of musicality. This is everyone playing something completely different than the other guy, then meeting up on the 8, 12, or the 4, etc. Outstanding musicians. But it's complication just for the sake of it. If I can't ride down the road and enjoy a song, then the music is shit. No matter how "good" or technically proficient you are. When Virge sits down and plays in the pocket with a good groove is when the magic happens for me. The techno babble isn't for me, but to each their own.
