Thank you so much for your expertise I have been to two hand specialists since I broke my finger on the 3rd of November they did not give me an MRI to check for torn tendons but I know that it is now because my finger is still very swollen after wearing a completely wrong full splint sending my finger to the right when it should have been up embodied to the left that was the first hand specialist that did nothing for me and the second one gave me a good splint for the tip but told me to continuously do therapy a couple times a day and where the splint at night only I feel your video is so much better than both hands specialist that I've seen and therapists I wasted my time with them my finger is still extremely swollen and sore I am stopping the therapy as it has been just over 4 weeks going to wear this new tip only splint at least another two or three weeks without doing anything I hope that this Mallet will go away since I have been doing wrong by doing therapy too early😢 I appreciate you!

So yesterday, I was playing kickball and I went to catch the ball when someone threw it and ever since, the very tip of my finger (from the knuckle up, not including the knuckle) has been sensitive to the lightest touch. It especially hurts on the nail side just below the nail and I just thought it would go away after a night’s sleep but it hasn’t so I just wanted to get the opinion of a medical professional before I go into a doctors office so they can get me an X-ray tell me if it’s broken and send me on my way with a lot of money out of my pocket and them saying there isn’t much they can do.

I have mallet finger right now, the more severe bony avulsion, for me it's horrible. Injured playing softball, got my hand in the way of a routine catch and got hit right on the DIP joint. It was about 4 days before I realized how serious it was. Been to the doctor about 5 times in 2 months... I've worn multiple splints, had pin surgery, and a few physical therapy sessions. Most frustrating is the injury is slow to heal, finger is still swollen (post surgery), and the PIP joint has become stiff and painful to bend. The biggest positive is I'm becoming more ambidextrous (being forced to use my off hand for most functions).

If those are the metal ones with the blue foam inside, I've used those too. Made some bends to allow the short splint that comes in the set of two to facilitate bending of the middle joint. I also placed cotton rounds under the fingertip to help keep it in the slightly extended position. Keep in mind, the shorter splint tends to slip off, use tape to keep it on, but only when needed. Otherwise, the tape will prevent the middle joint from bending, which can lead to stiffness very quickly. For showering, I use the large one exclusively for that activity, then wash it out and let it dry for the next shower. Buy several of those two-packs, you'll need them as they get dirty quickly. They're pretty cheap, though. And keep it on, all the time! Tape the splinted finger to one or both fingers on either side (depending on the finger in question). Make sure it won't come off in the night. Tape gunk on the skin is preferable to losing the splint while you sleep!

I injured my pinky finger months ago while playing basketball, I initially just thought it’s a swollen finger. I buddy strapped for a month/or so & stopped cuz I saw no improvement. My finger is still bent at the joint, Just had an MRI & nothing was found Dr said to try a splint. Pls advise what steps to take, my finger is still quite swollen & bent.

I would definitely do what the doctor said. A buddy strap would not help keep the tip of the finger straight.

Hello mam! I have a mallet ring finger ..I had visited doctor after 1 week of injury..I wore splint for first 2 weeks..in meanwhile sometimes I used to check the progression by removing splint especially after 1 week..I went to doctor after 2 weeks..he told me that there is no need to wear splint..you have to bear the deformity beacuse it will be never attached..by the way I have bony one...But I requested him that I will try for 2 or 3 weeks My question is that is there no chance of healing it..I am really scared by those doc words..reply asap possible

I think your dr is wrong...the tendon is torn but the way it heals is by scar tissue...leave in splint 8 weeks...6 weeks it's too tender..I did like 10 or 12 weeks. Then I was using splint on and off after 12 weeks...I had the same ring mallet finger..its not perfectly straight but close..... its stiff now but I use it all the time. I will keep you updated

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I went to urgent care and they took x-rays and said they looked fine. Mind you, the tip of my ring finger is still bent and in pain. I have bought several splints online, however have yet to find one that allows my finger to bend in the middle, keeping it stationary. I could really use some advice, if you can help please. I believe I have a tendon mallet finger, as no broken bones were detected. Thank you

You may need a custom splint made by a hand therapist. I also consult with people through video to help them figure out what will work! virtualhandcare.com

Bro just buy a finger splint and keep it on 24/7. As long as you don't have a fracture you don't need a doctor. Some folks can't afford doctors so I don't know why she keeps telling people to go to doctors for this injury that you can heal yourself. I bought a splint at wal mart and it's working fine. My finger is straightening

@@JonathanEvans1977 I tell people to go to the doctor because there are different types/classifications of mallet fingers AND some people get a swan neck deformity which requires a very different splint.

@@VirtualHandCare understood but you do know that in countries without universal healthcare such as the United States "going to the doctor" simply isn't an option for millions of people. Sad but fact.
