Mora is the keenest knife in the world. Its carbon steel is harder than 12C27 and holds a bit better. Mora Companion is not so useful on the cut board in the kitchen maybe because of its blade and handle feature. I used Chosera 400/800/2000/3000 stones. Scandi sharpening is a lot of joy honestly. Thanks.

Another great video from you! Thanks to the videos you did on taking care of knife strops I have been able to successfully restore 3 strops to working condition. I have also achieved a new "milestone" in the sharpness I achieve with a short sharpening session, I can now cut through newspaper very easily with a sharpening process of about 5-10 minutes with first a DC-4 ceramic side, then a 8000 grit stone then stropping. Perfect for the outdoors. Thanks a lot and have a nice day. :-)

Yes. They took micro rolls and chips after some deer dressings and finally their apex angle went 30 degrees or so because of repeated restoration by black compound stropping. They finally went substantially duller and I gave them zero Scandi again. But those regular grade stainless steels didn't hold well after this light job. They will need a micro bevel chance by chance until their angle gets tough enough. But when their angle goes over 30 degrees again, I will need to resharpen them again.

I took your suggestion and did it. The bevel is just slightly convex all the way from the starting line to the apex. Of course it doesn't have a micro bevel and is very sharp. So I think its natural slightly convexed bevel is acceptable enough. Thanks.

To keep its smallest angle I use only Bark River white compound. When I need a bit larger angle, I use Bark River black compound before the white one. Thanks.

I think Mora's carbon steel is a bit harder and takes a bit smaller angle than 12C27. I personally prefer Companion's thin handle to Bushcraft's thick handle. Robust's handle is just thick and not very good in my experience. I think Mora Bushcraft in 2.5mm Triflex carbon steel is the most efficient bushcraft knife. It will be discontinued but is now still available. I have a Bushcraft Force in 12C27 and its handle has great ergonimics. Thanks.

I am sure only for wood jobs Scandi Trapper is by far better. For food prep, game dressing, or something like such soft cutting Full Flat Trapper in a secondary home made convex edge can be better from my personal experience. Thanks.

I have never owned the full-flat Trapper. But I believe its geometry is the same as my other full-flat knives. They take my convexing very well and useful enough for deer dressing. But they don't have wood separating potential and are no good for wood jobs. As long as the Scandi Trapper keeps its zero grind Scandi bevel not taking a micro convex bevel on it like my one, it is a scary sharp knife. But to hold its sharpness long, its steel must be a decent one. My one is AUS8 and no good. Thanks.

Wako, In your video, you said that you used the tangent to find the edge angle, but this is incorrect. The length of the bevel would be the hypotenuse of the triangle, not the side adjacent to the angle you're taking the tangent of. The function you want to use is arcsin, instead of arctan. If you want the angle between the two bevels, and assuming the bevels are the same, you would take 2*arcsin( (1/2)*blade thickness / bevel length )

I really like thin blades and I know BRK does not make many because of warranty. I wish ultralight bushcrafter was a bit longer.

I had no idea Japan had such great deer hunting, and deer hunters. Here in Ohio, U.S.A., we cannot process our deer in the field. We can gut them, then they must be taken to a deer check-in station. We may use bow, crossbow, shotgun with a single projectile slug, or a handgun .357 or larger caliber. I only have a Mora Robust for a hunting knife, and for the money it works very well. my rough strop became smooth after long use and stuffed with compound so there were no hairs. after i scarped off most of the compound i used a brush to bring some nappy hair back. after i stropped on it my knife was able to shave hair when it could not before

In my experience AUS8A is not a good steel. The 2 knives I have had experience with were from SOG and ColdSteel. I work with monofilaments and AUS8A absolutely can not hold up to it. I have found 154CM to be the best for my work related needs. It hold its edge significantly better than D2. One steel than I have been very surprised by is the CroVan steel from Case.

.... Could you hold a flat ruler or something similar against the scandi bevel to see whether it has a slight convex or whether it is real "flat" please. In my experience, even if I do it carefully on stones, the scandi always turns out slightly convex,. Thanks, Andy
