The way Aemond stood up ready to defend his brother is great. You can tell Aegon was provoking Jace because he felt totally safe due to Aemond being there to protecthim. He knew Aemond would meet any threat to protect him, Aemond is essentially Aegon's gaurd dog.

Paddy and Emma Were the MVPS of the episode. Like Paddy how he hasn't even gotten any nominations is beyond me and Emma breaks my heart

So many seem to just write her off as this evil witch so it's such a breath of fresh air to see a reactor who is looking at it from an unbiased perspective and just genuinely _get_ it! _Yes_ , Alicent was comforting Dyana and she gave her money and moon tea so she can rid of the baby and she actually sent Dyana away, so Aegon can't get at her again. She did the best thing she could do in such a situation, but people still drag her for it, so thank you for actually getting it. And definitely, Alicent isn't the villain, and she doesn't hold ill will, she's doing what she's doing because she thinks its the way to protect her family. The way Rhaenyra is also doing the same. So team neutral is definitely the best side to be on imo because it's a side that tends to actually understand both perspectives and realize that not everything is black and white. Lastly, I love that you recalled the conversation between Alicent and Viserys a few episodes ago because it seems a lot of people forgot that and think Alicent just randomly thought of Viserys deciding to make her son heir, when the reality is, he literally talked to her about a dream involving Aegon (a son born to him, obviously the 1st born, wearing the conquerers crown, and Aegon was his only child at the time, and he was in doubt on whether he made the right choice choosing Rhaenyra back then. So yeah when he brought it up and asked "don't you remember" she likely thought back to that, and now thinks this is what he wants. A clear miscommunication of course, but not out of nowhere).

This episode made me shed a few tears 💜 my favorite this season.

Vaemond is only thinking of himself; even the way normal inheritance law works in Westeros, a lord's daughter, or his daughter's daughters, inherit ahead of his younger brother. Vaemond only inherits after Corlys's entire bloodline is extinguished, down to the last granddaughter. He's trying to steal Driftmark from Baela.

For anyone who doesn’t know, the moon tea (or “plan b tea”) can have dangerous side effects in the story. We know of quite a few characters using it and turning out pretty much fine, but Lysa Arryn was given moon tea by her father after she slept with Littlefinger and she nearly straight up died. So yeah “plan b” kinda exists in this story but it can be super dangerous for the person who drinks it, which is why Alicent giving it to this poor girl is kinda f’ed up and probably partially why we never figure out if Rhaenyra drank it or not. The tea is also really frowned upon by The Faith of The Seven, which also kinda makes Alicent a hypocrite I guess? It’s all really messy

You haven’t noticed that Alicents daughter is not just speaking to her self but she is speaking prophetically. Just like when her mom was talking to Aemond about getting a dragon then her daughter says he’ll have to lose and eye and then he did lose and eye and gained a dragon. This time she said beware of the beast beneath the boards…😏

Had he as king, annulled Dameons marriage when Rhaenyra came of age (apparently was not consummated anyways, not that it matters, he’s king, he can do what he likes), but had he married them then, like they both wanted, they’d have a football team of true-looking Targaryen dragon riders kids and AINT NOBODY fukn with that. Would have stabilized and ensured the future of House Targaryen.

Great episode man Viserys will be missed. His entrance to take the throne was a bada** moment. I really like the moment when Daemon helped him. It really showed they could've been an amazing team if it wasn't for Otto and a little bit of Daemon as well. In which you can tell from his face he's beginning to regret not having that strong brotherly relationship that they could of have. Even tho I get Vaemon anger when it comes to Rhaenyra kids. But he clearly forgot which house he truly was in. But the way Daemon sliced Vaemon top face off had caught me off guard but it was a badass moment. But anyway I hope you have a wonderful day. Think if at the start rhaenyra could get over her pride and tell alicent the truth, and alicent were able to get over her bias, and the two were able to put men out of the equation and work together, that would have been the best possible ending.

The way Aemond lost his eye and Viserys didn't give a fuck and now he has lost an eye too lmao thats poetic justice. I'm sorry I really don't get your love for Daemon, probably just like you wouldn't get Otto's fans. How can you love your family when you bring your niece to a sordid brothel to ensure she's seen as "soiled" to force Viserys' hand and get her as wife? Literally so no one wants her and she has to depend on you??? How that does not screams of abusive groomer lol. How can you love your brother when you haven't visited him in SIX YEARS while he was sick and ill, and then make unfair insinuations about him being controlled by the woman that HAS BEEN TAKING CARE of his ungrateful ass? Sorry but you can 100% read Daemon's actions as him just wanting Viserys to sit the throne ASAP to defend Luke's claim and Rhaenyra's, and thus his own ascension as consort. There's nothing in the show that makes me see him as a genuine loving brother/husband and not a manipulative rat that loves his family in the same way Tywin loved the Lannister - as a tool for power and a weapon of rulership and intimidation.

I honestly love vasirys and rhnyra and daemon (him most of the time) they truley love eachother and he honestly just wanted one last dinner with his children and grandchildren, he loved them all so much and alicents father just fluffed everything up, just like little finger.

Viserys thought he was talking to Rhaenyra at the end about Aegon the Conqueror's dream and Alicent has no fault in thinking that he was talking about their son. Haelena talking to herself is actually very important to pay attention to.

I am genuinely shocked how many people straight up despise Alicent at this point. All of her actions have been understandable in the difficult position she’s been forced into, except maybe going a little cray with the dagger scene, but even then you could empathize with how frustrated she is. But you are right, her sons are not it 😂 really rooting for rhaenyra at this point solely based on the fact her heirs are better

Beware the beast beneath the boards

Being a nerd once again, the situation with Vaemond is different in the books. When Rhaenyra knows about his intention to offer himself as heir to Driftmark, she sends Daemon to capture him and bring him to Dragon Stone. There, Daemon cuts his head off and feed the body to Syrax, Rhaenyra's dragon. When his family knows about this, his wife and 3 kids, decide to go to King's Landing to have justice, because this was literally a crime. Rhaenyra didn't have the right to command anybody's death, only the King could do that. When they arrive asking for the King's Justice, Viserys cuts their whole family tongues off. Vaemond's five cousins, his wife and two kids, who were about the same age as Luke and Joffrey. From that moment on, they became known as the Silent Five. I personally think this would be better, to show that Rhaenyra isn't that perfect. As much as i love her, she's also a spoiled brat. The show paints her more passive and innocent, but she's far from that, and that's what makes the whole dance interesting, cause everybody makes indefensible decisions and there's no good guy (except for Helaena, i love you Helaena). But that's just my opinion.

Viserys I should've crowned Rheanyra right then and there it was his last day alive, he could feel it and everybody saw it.

Daemon and Rhaenyra lived an hour away from King’s Landing and never visited Viserys in 6 years until they needed him. And then Daemon has the audacity to suggest that Alicent has been poisoning him 🫠

Team Green all the way. Alicent is a much better queen then Rhaenyra. A lot of what Rhaenyra has to deal with is reaping what she sowed. She isn't loved much by the high born (remember she cuts off her travels for a suitor and spurred a lot of would be husbands), despite being with Laenor chose to mother bastards and everyone knows it (flaunts in the laws of westeros), she then fake kills Laenor to marry Daemond (who the high born also hate because he's violent and reckless, killed his wife in the Vale), this made the Velaryon her main ally angry so she married her only two assets to marry off back to that house, not accruing more allies. Imagine this, Rhaenyra marries Lord Jason Lannister, secures the westerlands and all the influence money can buy, she then marries her first born son to Alicent's first born daughter, thus securing the Hightowers to her cause, then she marries her second born son/daughter to the Velaryons. That would give her power in the sea, power on land, boom no conflict. Its because she choose to go against tradition (tearing up the history book is a symbol of this) that she has so few friends in court.

Curiosity: If you rewatch the intro for this specific episode, when you see the bloodline for Rhaenyra's children, you can see that are 3 paths that connect to each other before passing under a rectangular stone, and break down again. The one in the middle is supposedly Laenor's children, but you can see that this doesn't connect anywhere, making explicit that those aren't Laeenor's children in reality. The one in the right is Sor Harwin's sons because if you pause it, you can see the sigil overflowed with blood, which means the character is dead. But on the left, you can see another path of blood coming to merge with the two others. That means that Jace is probably Sor Criston Cole son. Witch means that Rhaenyra didn't drink that tea from episode 4. You can also see that Jace has straight brown hair, like Sor Criston, and Luke and Joffrey have curly black hair, like Harwin. I know that generically talking that doesn't mean shit, but in ASOIAF it does. As Jon Arryn once said, The Seed Is Strong.

I've seen a surprising amount of people defend Vaemond, as if his motives were virtuous. He hid behind a 'righteous' smokescreen to hide his own designs. Corlys even said that members of their house had nothing they could not claim and he clearly didn't have the skill or ability to make it for himself, so he thought to take his brother's power and renown. His argument toward family and bloodlines ended the second the children's betrothal was announced. The Velaryon name would survive through the boys and the bloodline through the girls. His house was as secure as it ever was... Folks who pretend to be righteous to hide their own greed annoy me, so Vaemond really bugs me as a character (even if his performance was great).

You know everyone talks about the throne sequence, but my favourite scene from this episode (possibly the entire show) was Viserys’ speech at the dinner table. It was so heartbreaking and moving. Second favourite scene was Rhaenyra’s plea to her father, also such a heartbreaking scene

Seeing it in retrospect this episode is so manipulative holy shit.

Otto and Allicent are not innocent. Regardless if Allicent has a right.. it doesn't matter because of the DREAM. It is now rheanerya job to take that dream and pass it on.. the king made her the heir. Otto, purposely in ep 1, suggested rheanerya, knowing the realm would fight against it. So he could then send his daughter to the king so they could get together and have a son. Everything Otto has done has been against the king for his own ambitions. The most important thing is rheanerya. And the dream.. which is about jon snow. Aka aegon targaryan that will unite the realm against winter. And who is direct line of rheanerya? Jon snow.

If I had to single any actor out, it would be Paddy Considine: his role as Viserys made the most impresssion on me. You're right about Alicent: sure she resents Rhaenyra to a certain point, because Alicent sees herself as the one who sacrificed a lot, whereas Rhaenyra for a large part "got to do what she wants"; on the other hand she still cares for her. About Aemond: I don't know if you saw it but he was more or less provoked by the laughs about the pig, which lead him to his own provoking toast.

I feel like your forgetting that the strong boys bullied Aemond as a kid and took his eye , then Luke has the audacity to laugh at the same guy who he saw has become a deadly fighter , not very smart is he.

i cried when daemon helped viserys up, because after everything they've been through he really just loves his brother and family, and he gave him back his crown, when years ago he was fighting to have it If everything was in the hands of Rhaenyra and Alicent they would have made peace long ago, and after all these years their relationship is still strong, but there are other factors and they can't fight that

Queen Alicent deserved a better husband than King Viserys. She tended to him, fluffed his pillows, tucked him in whenever he needed a nap, made sure he had everything he needed and just straight up being a great wife. But what does the King do in turn? Always favor his “only child” instead of his other children and doesn’t even love Alicent at all. So fixated on Queen Aemma. I’ve always felt bad for Viserys but I’ve felt worse for Alicent. She didn’t even want to wed the King yet she had to because her leech father told her to. And back then women had no say in who they were marrying since they were only seen as tools.

Again, Alicent is kind of the clear bad guy. Everything she does is because she feels entitled. She knows how absolutely fucking HORRIBLE Aegon is but pushes for him to be the king anyways because she wants the power and she thinks rules HAVE TO BE OBEYED.

Rhaenyra herself left the capital and for all these years it never even occurred to her or Daemon to visit the sick, aging Viserys. Did they realize that Viserys would be left alone with the Hightowers and they would rule? This is as obvious as the origin of the "strong" boys. And when it smelled of fried food and the child’s inheritance began to slip through their fingers, the relatives suddenly suddenly remembered the king and hurried to the capital where, surprisingly, someone had been involved in politics all this time (well, why would the future queen need it, if it was possible to score on the future throne , politics and a father to cost a nest with a new spouse). Alicent is not Mother Teresa, but she did take care of Viserys. Even on the last night of his life, she was by his side. The old man was missing half of his face! He was just a walking corpse. It's amazing that he somehow managed to survive all these years on poppy milk. Without him, he would have given his soul to seven much earlier from a painful shock ..

Yes, pay close attention to Alicent's daughter Halaena. She is definitely a dreamer. Remember in Episode 6 when Alicent told Aemond he’ll get a dragon one day? Helaena said “He’ll have to close an eye.” Also in episode 7, Helaena was playing with a spider and repeatedly said “Hand turns loom, spool of green, spool of black, dragons of flesh, weaving dragons of thread.” She's predicting the Black Vs. Green conflict in her Targaryen family! So Helaena predictions are true. 😉

Otto told them not to great Rhaenyra & Daemon even thought as a princess & prince they should’ve been greeted. Seeing Daemon get choked up & struggle to speak when he saw Viserys was so touching. & his entrance & Daemon helping him was the best scene! You can stand by Alicent but ion like her or her kids excepts sweet Heleana. RIP Viserys Paddy did an excellent job!

I have to say, I _hate_ that they made Aegon a rapist on the show when he wasn’t in the books. I know you’ve seen the rest of the show so this isn’t a spoiler but this and the next episode basically turn Aegon into a moustache twirling villain in comparison to everyone else which just isn’t the point of the story.

18:02 If you look at the bad side of Viserys' face, it's on the side of the greens Alicent, Otto, Aegon, etc... and the good side of his face is on the side of his daughter Rhaenyra and his brother Daemon. I liked what they did here, to show that the greens were always the rotten ones and basically destroyed Viserys's life while the good side of Viserys' face is his daughter and his brother who never did anything bad to him or his life.

Atleast allicent is a better person than cersie, her character is tragic but still is a better mother than cersie. Cersie was just rotten to the core, there was nothing redeeming inside her

Rhaenyra makes it clear in this episode (by telling Rhaenys that Jace's sons will be heirs after him, not his children, just his sons) that she never intended to change the system like she said in episode 2, she views herself as an exception to the rule and fully intends to uphold the patriarchy for everyone else.

Let’s be real, Alicent is a grown ass woman and can make her own decisions. She doesn’t always do what Otto says either and she is aware of his ambitions and has called him out for it herself…Alicent knows right from wrong and knows Rhae wouldn’t have killed her children. So you excusing her and blaming her father is weird. There are really no hero’s in this story but their is a right way to go about things. Girl what? Alicent shamed the girl that was raped!!! this was a good episode but the ending was so awful, Alicent just forgives Rhaenyra for everything and wants her to be queen cause they had one nice dinner together even though she knows it will put her sons lives in danger? she only reluctantly crowns her son because she thinks her husband told her to? the show wont let her have any ambition at all

Helena speaks in prophecy when she's talking to herself. Not gonna give anything away but her story is one of the saddest in the lore. I hope they give her a Leanor style rewrite before everything is said and done.

It’s so sad to know that at one point in their youth, Alicent and Rhaenyra loved each other romantically but did not understand it yet. Before they ever could Alicent was manipulated (by her OWN father) into marrying the king, and at such a young age. The pain and strain in their relationship is so deep. Imagine if they would’ve been able to love each other. 😞
