I just got the test results back from the spring! The contents were water! Just ordinary water...lased with LSD.

For those that don't know, Robes of Atom's Devoted is a broken but awesome piece of armor/clothing. Rad resistance goes up as you take rads, maxing out to IMMUNITY ~750 rads. What's better is that this is full rad resistance to environment, but not food or irradiated water. So what you can do is drink irradiated water (like under the submarine) to get yourself past 1000 rads. Through some bug, somehow somewhere you're flagged as "immune to radiation damage" while wearing the robes so you can't die to radiation damage. So the game goes "what do? You can't have 0 HP and not be dead", so you never lose your last hit point. But the game seems to have no code to deal with rads > 1000. So, your HP is completely uncapped by radiation, now. So, keep drinking to heal yourself up. It just works. You're now immune to rads with full HP. The only issue is your health bar in the UI is completely red, so you can only check your current HP in your Pip Boy. As long as you never heal your rad damage, this is permanent. Just don't take off the robes and even take a little rad damage. This does include power armor, too. You can't be a power armor character. Power armor overwrites your clothes buffs. The robes only allow a head slot, but the inquisitor's cowl will give you +4 int irradiated as you are. If you grab UCO or any other mod that allows armor pieces over clothing that doesn't normally allow it, it can get bonkers. Rad Powered armor pieces give +7 strength per piece at 933 rads (which you'll eclipse). You'll permanently be proccing Hancock's "Isodoped" perk, if you have it. Also, if you side with CoA in Far Harbor, there's a perk that gives a buff to your damage equal to your radiation level. So, you'll have a permanent +100% buff to damage. Atom's Chosen indeed.

I love ambient music and sounds in the Nucleus and Far Harbor dlc in general. So creepy and meditative. Fun fact: High Confessor Tektus is voiced by the same voice actor that voiced our dunmer companion (and some additional characters) in Dragonborn dlc for Skyrim which also takes place on an island. Bethesda loves making island dlcs.

I live in Maine so the far harbor DLC and the harbor people of far harbor resonate with me. Allen especially is my favorite because he reminds me of literally every uncle, grandfather, and dad I know that lives in Maine 😂

If Fallout 4 worked similar to the Dragon Age series; The Children of Atom could've been less....hyperactive is the word ill go for. Would be cool to help them during Fallout 3 and see them as a more respective religion in Fallout 4. But alast, Bethesda can barley build stable games as it is. Never mind a Dragon Age Consequence System.

in my playthroughs, i always choose to believe that Atom is real (especially in a universe where ruins and giant statues are buried under Boston). makes it easier to deal with Tektus, an ideologue driven with desire for power. the way the Children quests are framed, you could easily be Atom's unknowing messenger to the Children. saving them from a "crumbling" fortress mentality.

I've been listening to a lot of these lore videos while I'm trying to entertain myself during quarantine and it deffo helps the dull hours go by :)

My first play through of Far Harbor I found the nucleus before I went to Acadia and seeing they were children of atom (normally hostile) I murdered all of them. Kinda decided that ending unintentionally.

I'm still peeved joining the Children of Atom didn't give you a perk that made you immune to radiation.

Isn't "Robes of Atom's Devoted" the children of atom outfit that has a hidden radiation resistance that increases the higher rads you take? At near dead, the resist goes to 100% and your health bar invisibly goes back to full. full health, 100% rad resist, and ballistic weave. Very good armor.

Finally came back to this game and decided to make a children of Atom character, actually really fun for RP with something of a different type of character

There's something very alluring to the idea of a new God for Fallout. And I could do wonders with the Children of Atom if I were part of the designer Team of Fallout 5. I always loved the Cosmic Horror and mysterious themes in Bethesdas Fallout games.

The first time I played Far Harbor, the moment I saw the Children of Atom at the Nucleus entrance, I just shot first. Ended up massacring all of them. It was only much later that I realized that they were involved in a major quest. I thought they were just glorified raiders.

This is where Fallout takes, what I'd like to call a "Far Cry vibe". A vision quest of an actual 'Messenger of Atom'. Made me stop & think, "So, wait, there's actually something a bit tangible to this Atom? So then, the Children aren't completely crazy, after all?" Surprisingly interesting, to say the least.

The Mother in the Fog makes me think of the Night Mother from the Elder Scrolls. Both Atom and Sithis are these kind of alien, dreadful deities that are sort of destructive and hard to comprehend to mortals, and both have their respective "motherly" saint figures that speak for them. Though, this is also part of why the Children of Atom's faith seems a bit dissonant to me. On the one hand, it has this very inhuman cosmic vibe to it. This whole thing about every atom holding the potential for a new universe inside it, or whatever. This doctrine is kind of weird to me, because it seems like it presents a vision of the world as being so potentially vast and unfathomable, that it effectively devalues the significance of human lives, relative to the potential of the atoms they and everything else are made of. Who cares about human individuals, if any random rock holds much potential in all its atoms? So why then does human spirituality even matter much to them? Why does Atom care about human devotion to him, if he literally measures his success in the number of trillions of worlds that gets created? But then on the other hand, Atom's faith seems to have this much more personal, rustic pagan thing going on. Instead of multi-cosmic, incomprehensible, abstract and harshly sterile, it's very down-to-earth, so much so that Atom literally selects certain lands and people to be his "chosen", he is seen as embodied in the post-war fauna, flora and very landscape. This gives a feel of a much more localist/folksy/spiritist/witchcraft-oriented kind of deity that is more approachable, that is embodied in particular earthly things, rather than being on a scale beyond everything we comprehend. How can a religion that centers around mystifying something as abstract as the atom itself, which has ideas about creation and destruction that happens on a scale detached from every-day living also be about nature and individual human lives? I don't think it makes much sense. I kind of think the religion could make more sense if it focused more on the idea of the atom as being the building-block of the universe, and of envisioning nuclear energy as the divine source of all creation and life, as fission and fusion are the sources of the earth's geothermal heat and sunlight. Just focus on the idea that radiation is an expression of hole change, a power of destruction and creation, rather than this weird stuff about additional worlds inside atoms, or whatever.

In all honesty, I think the Mother of the Fog is an H.G. Lovecraft-type character. There's enough mystery and intrigue mainly because I could tie Her to the Dunwich Building in D.C., the Dunwich Borers in Massachusetts, the Interloper in West Virginia, and the Necronomicon in Maryland. Now, that isn't to say She's ANY of those things, but She's a driving force for unearthing all of these objects. In my opinion, She induces visionary/illusory actions in human behavior to uncover secrets of old and powerful families that have been involved with The Great Game. Just wanted to make a passable baseline, if not educated guess.

Never even occurred to me to remove my power armor during this quest, as I needed it because I was carrying too much to run without it. Appears to make no difference to the Children of Atom though. No one even asks me why I wear it.

I couldn't/wouldn't side with the Children of Atom, they're nuts. I'd most likely wipe them out every time we'd cross paths. Anyone in favor of intentionally spreading radiation everywhere, needs to be stopped by any means necessary.

what if Atom is real? I mean how else would you explain their immunity to radiation? and that vision, even if it was a person using a stealth boy it doesn't explain the creatures not attacking us and the bullets just going through her like if she was a ghost or something (please don't hate me if im wrong, I just started playing fallout 4 and I recently got to this part, I don't know a lot about lore)

Hey Oxhorn, you may have covered this elsewhere, but you should look deeper into the Robes of Atom's Devoted and how they function with accumulated radiation. The outfit is better than you made it seem in this video. Thanks for all of your hard work in the Fallout world.

Nuclear Fog is just Spicy Air

Just finished far harbour for the first time yesterday after realising the island is mount deseret and like a few hours from my home province in canada. Killed the children of Atom then did my duty to the brotherhood and rallied far harbour and led them in the purge of Acadia. We can not suffer the synth to live.

One thing I find annoying about infiltrating the Children of Atom is that some of the companions who don't think much of this faction--Deacon, Old Longfellow, and Cait, for instance, will drop in affinity if you say appropriate "pro-Atom" things while under cover, as if they don't understand what it means to be undercover.

I appreciate you doing this series Ox. I always slaughter Children of Atom on sight as a matter of principal, unfortunately that also meant that I never get to hear their dialogue.

Atom exists in the fallout fantasy universe. It doesn't mean that it's a fully fleshed out being. But he exists

So, Dima makes a mess, and asks us as a favor out of the kindness of our hearts to help to fetch his memories in the nucleus, and he doesn’t help us to get in there in any way. So, to get in we are forced to poison ourselves with highly irradiated water that could easily kill us. Would anyone sane do this? What if we died, what would he do? He would probably just delete his memories again, so he doesn’t have to live with the guilt. To him I say no thank you, if he wants me to get in there, but he is not going to help me find another way inside, then I’m carving my way in with lead and he better be grateful!
