I am Polish and my home is about 15 km from border with Czech Republic. I just want to say that Prague or Praha is one of the most beautiful city I have ever visit. Hope my Czech neighbors are very proud of this lovely capital :)

One of my favourite towns I know! The architecture! The food! The beer! If there's one town in Europe to live in, this is it!

Prague is one of the most beautiful cities with historic buildings that I went to in Europe last year. Glad it wasn't destroyed in World war two!

I first saw pictures of Prague when I was a teenager and built it up in my mind for years. When I finally got to go last year, I was afraid it was going to be a case of "meeting your hero" where it wouldn't live up to my expectation. Prague more than exceeded my expectations. It is the most gorgeous city I've been to yet, very affordable to visit (I stay in hostels), very walkable, and did I mention how gorgeous it is? Also, don't forget to drink some absinthe at The Hemingway Bar ;).

Prague and Genoa are the only really significant places I've been to outside the US and seeing this was so great, it brought me right back there. Such a gorgeous place, especially if you love the kind of dreery/overcast weather like I do. Pilsner is also a plus. Light or dark, doesn't matter they're fantastic!

Even though I study and live in Prague I still feel like a tourist. I admire the architecture here :)

I really, really adore Prague! It is the most beautiful city I have ever been too even though it's extremely crowded (I was there in July). A big plus is also the cheep beer (we payed about 1,50€ for 0,5l) :D I recommend visiting Prague for everyone who is able to go there! :)

Additional info for tourists visiting the most beautiful city in the world : 1. Tipping is finally becoming normalized here in what used to be a no tip nation. 10% for now is considered a fine tip. 2. Do not take a taxi. Take one of the best and cheapest public transportation systems in the world...for just 32 korunas , 1.50 or less USD equivalent, you can use thst one ticket to get to your destination including transferring if necessary! Even more awesome is that the street car trams, deep subway system, and city bus can all be utilized interchangeably with thst same one ticket to get you where you want to go!!!, so long as you do so in 90 minutes. 3. Be careful at many restaurants. If you order water at a Czech restaurant, be careful as it is the custom to charge you even for the tap water even when you specifically asked for mere tap water to avoid paying for the bottled water on the menu. Ask them if you have to pay for water. Tap. If they say yes , either leave on principle or just revert to ordering the bottled water. 4. If you get crappy service , do not tip. 5. Be warned..Some slimy restaurants will try to add more to your bill for the basket of bread you did not eat or ask for when your ordered dinner arrives! More than a few even upscale restaurants in Praha will actually with a straight face try to dishonestly force you to pay their hidden tack on fee even when you remind them you neither atev nor ordered the bread. They will still try to stick you with the extra 37 Korunas slipped into your bill by calling it a condiment fee! Because you used their Salt, pepper, ketchup, butter, or mustard. This is no joke , they are that clever, sleazy, and or greedy in trying to extract more money from your purse or wallet in that way. I refused! They tried to tell me all the above was Czech custom everywhere and even brought the manager over to my table. I protested vigorously that I would not pay for tap water EVER anywhere nor fir the pepper I sprinkled on my food. They finally backed down but some places won't... so just be aware of this hidden extra charge that will be the surprise to your bill ! The hotels major are expensive but Praha has so many, many charming smaller hotels that are everywhere and some even provide breakfast, too, and they are reasonably priced. Note well: Generally speaking , no matter which hotel you stay in, like most of Europe, the bathrooms and showers in your rooms will be super small by American hotel and residence standards. Unlike many Euro nations, the Czech and Slovak speaking people have, relatively speaking, fewer people who speak English! ....and fewer still who can speak it or understand it well!!!!! When asking for directions, or seeking explanations for various food items on a menu, you will eventually find someone who can give you a response in English. When you go to the store or farmers market you will see prices for the fruits and vegetabkes and such. Know that what you see the price tag on is NOT the price you will pay but rather the price per kilogram that they are charging! Bummer. No USA like added sales tax on items or food like in the USA. M Hurray! Praha is NOT really a user friendly bicycle city as far as respected bike lanes are concerned . It is also just hilly enough in many places to deter bicycle riding which are the major reasons so many in Prague do not ride bikes. The other reason for a dearth of bikes here as opposed to say, bike crazy cities such as flat Copenhagen Denmark, is that there are cobblestone and brick streets everywhere as opposed to smooth surfaces. Do not jaywalk in this city. Do be extremely careful when crossing streets because the Czech people drive like maniacs generally speaking and way too fast esp. considering all the narrow winding streets in this ancient city! The bars are basically open all night...unlike the 2 o'clock cut off bar time in the USA. You will thus see groups of people passed out on the sidewalk,or else staggering home or back to their hotel at dawn making too much noise and or barfing , etc., unfortunately. Sadly, many of the splendidly designed churches will try to charge you admission to enter as if they were some architecturally beautiful museum, which many are. I find this both selfish gouging and , yes, immoral. At a few churches I entered, when told I would have to pay a fee, I stood my ground and adamantly refused and told them that this is a church and my purpose in entering was to pray to God. Begrudgingly, the greedy money changers backed off and let me in. The Prague airport, Vaclav Havel, actually has a large supermarket with fruits and vegetables and other reasonably priced healthy food ! Wow! It is located in the basement and opens at 6 o'clock every morning. It beats the overpriced typical airport junk food like Cinnabon , McDonald's, KFC, etc. Be sure to empty your water bottles and other liquids before you go through airport security or wave bye bye to it forever.Remember that your metal can opener needs to be taken out of your bag and placed separetely on the cart going through the screener to avoid delays. Remember to be nice, polite, civil, friendly and you will have a smooth vacation and be treated with respect. Prague is a very walkable city , so very walkable ...but please no high heels or hard shoes because so many of the streets are cobble stone or brick as are the sidewalks! Sneakers and tennis shoes for tourists is the way to go. Enjoy the night life , food, beverages, etc, but please do not get too drunk or high as it will reflect poorly on your manners and the nation you come from. In Praha they actually sell legally...marijuana flavored chocolates, drinks, and food in stores! Some even sell a singke joint. Although you must be 18 to buy cigarettes, the legal age to smoke is 15! The age of consent is the standard and appropriate 16 as is the case in most nations nowadays. The Czech and Slovak people, like most Euro nation's are not as prudish about sex as Americans are or often pretend to be. They are generally friendly and well educated. There are many different types of walking tours ...Take several as they are not only good exercise but educational, informative, entertaining, and sometimes full of humor. Be sure to leave a tip to your tour guide.

I love Prague so much, I've been twice and I'd definitely go again. It's so easy to get to from the UK, only a 2-hour flight, and the prices are so cheap compared to London.

Mark, you are so right. I don't know if I'll ever fall in love with a city more than I did with Paris, but Prague was an unexpected treasure. We were there around Christmas and every place we went was spectacular.

I agree that Prague is one of the top destinations now in Europe. I was there 2 years ago and found it to be a great city for a tourist. There is so much to see and do I barely scratched the surface. I plane to get back there hopefully soon. don't forget the Petrin tower which offers a great view of Prague.

Prague was my favorite. The food was good, the drinks were great, the culture and feel of the city was amazing. There was so much to do and not nearly enough time. I may plan a trip back there and just focus on the Czech Republic. Gorgeous city. (We found a little absinth bar and while the taste of absinth was a bit strong, the bartender was amazing.)

Was in Prague this summer and it was great! But stay away from the tourist places around the square. Its just a 10-15 min walk from the old town square to find much better and cheaper places to eat and drink.

I'm there right now! I recommend the Potrefna Husa restaurant chain. Good food (Czech & International) at a reasonable price.

I feel that Prague is very underated among travellers, but it's in my top 3 cities with London and Lisbon

next one would be: go to "Jiřího z Poděbrad" metro station. There is really nice church and good food markets on the weekends. When you are there go a few blocks to TV tower (which is 2nd ugliest structure in Europe :) ) - you can oversee the Prague from there (about 95m above ground and at 60m restaurant)

I am studying abroad it Prague next semester and I am SOOOOO excited! Is it difficult to difficult to get around since I don't speak a lot of Czech?

When you suggest using any public transport I feel that it would be useful to quickly mention where tickets can be bought and whether they need validating, either before or after boarding. These are things that do vary from place to place any could be very useful to know when planning a trip.

In my opinion it is not only one of the most beautiful, but also one of the most reasonably-priced cities in the world. What do you think?

I am not a big fan of Prague by itself but I always enjoy a walk in Petrin hill because during the hot season no one goes there (little wooden church, etc.).

I went to Prague on Sylvester two years ago. It was a bad mistake. The city was full and very noisy. Unfortunately the days are very short in this season. We couldn't see a lot of this architecture. Maybe I will go there on warmer days :)

Almost anyone in Europe speaks English who is under 30. I did run into a lot of germans who didnt but that was in more rural areas and not tourist sites. Italy, I noticed many people didnt speak English but I wasn't that common.

In my opinion Eastern Europe is very underrated. I'd rather go to Prague, Budapest, Cracow or Riga than Paris or Barcelona.

My biggest tip for Prague is DO YOUR RESEARCH! Look up the best places to eat/drink and you will find some really cheap and good quality bars and restaurants. Please please avoid the two Irish sports bars on the square, they are a huge rip off. The castle grounds are amazing and a great free things to do and for a great view of the city, don't bother with the tower that you have to pay for, head to the gardens/park just across the river near Sparta Praha's football stadium, you get an amazing view for free. Don't drink in the streets, as a Brit I often forget that it is illegal in some places. My and my girlfriend were sat on one of the Islands in the river drinking a bottle of beer each in the sun and a police officer with a huge dog and assault rifle made is shut them and move on.

I have a sixth tip: Czech out the entire city.
