No idea about the schism thing or jars. Either I’ve never seen it or completely forgotten. I attended a lot of weekly masses too, going to Catholic school as a kid. Could be that small town Kansas doesn’t have very elaborate masses. 🙂 The older kids got to sing in the choir for funerals sometimes. I liked doing that and it felt like a choir of angels to me with the soft youthful voices.

Easter vigil Mass is the most beautiful/powerful/important Mass of the year. If I had to guess, Bishop Barron was the main celebrant for the Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday/Easter Vigil) and then other priests took over for Sunday morning Masses. Most Easter Vigils are long (mine was 2.5 hours) and it’s where new adult converts are brought into the church as is the ancient tradition. I highly recommend you attend an Easter vigil next year … you won’t regret it. The beauty of the liturgy cannot be matched.

I love that as a single man with no children, you have chosen to spend your free time growing spiritually and drawing nearer to God. A lot of men in this position would give in to their vices or loneliness etc. I’m excited to see where your journey takes you. I know you have a loving God who is aware of you and will bless you for your efforts. I’m not Catholic, I’m LDS, so I’m unfamiliar with their customs but I know from my own personal experiences that knowing God’s will for our lives is the only way to true happiness while here. I believe great things await!😊

I have followed your posts for about a year now, and love them. A little over 11 years ago, I took a bad wave in Hawaii, and broke my neck. I was paralyzed from the neck down. I recovered some, but was on 30 pills a day, with all sorts of paralytic issues. I also had real bad circulation, and counted 45 muscles that hurt if I moved them. I continued to go down hill, even going comatose many times, 3 times in Dec. of 2022. After going comatose again the first part of Jan., I told my family I did not think I was coming back, I figured I was done with life. So they organized a fast, prayed for me, and two of my sons layed their hands on my head, and gave me a Priesthood Blessing. Shortly thereafter I had an out of body experience. I could see my body in the hospital bed, and my mom was there (who had past away eight years earlier), and I felt as if a hand was inside my body, and all of a sudden I felt a rush of circulation. I saw and felt many things. When I came to, I could lift my legs, and my arm, and the pain moving my muscles was gone. I asked for a porta potty, because with circulation now much better, I had to go. I filled that thing up. I asked to get weighed again, and weighed 194. When I went to the doctor the month before I weighed 242, so I lost 48 lbs. in one month. I received an absolute miracle from God! So miracles still happen. Since I received a new lease on life, I have determined to serve God for the rest of my life. My wife and I put our papers in, and we are now Senior Missionaries. David(also the name of my oldest son), if you do find the one true Church of Jesus Christ, let us know! Because Paul taught..."One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism!".

Brother Boyce, I just heard the news today. I’m so proud of you. I know it’s been a long journey. I am a lifelong member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints, but I too attend other faith services with a friend of mine. We’ve been doing it for years sometimes Christmas mass sometimes Easter celebration, sometimes just a weekly meeting southern Baptist in assembly of God. Some other local protestant churches in the area. I enjoy them quite a bit. I enjoy the people, but having the testimony I do for my faith it is a lifelong treasured testimony of the gospel in its fullness restored to this earth. I have a love for God, the father and Jesus Christ. That testimony is witnessed to me through the Holy Ghost. Again, I congratulate you and your journey is just now beginning.❤❤❤

Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I'm no expert on Catholicism - but I agree, the jars look like olive oil. Also, I love the idea of an Easter vigil mass. The imagery of the candle light shining forth to push back the darkness while waiting for The Lord to return (or at least, that's how I interpret it) is incredibly moving and beautiful. I absolutely love finding beautiful and unique expressions of faith in churches besides my own - God is good, and his goodness is everywhere!

I was raised Protestant, at the behest of my father. My Polish American Catholic mother didn’t mind that. Through a very long story, I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was 20. I have been very grateful for having been exposed to all of these religious backgrounds. It has enriched my life even more. I am also grateful that my father and mother were tolerant of my conversion. They were even supportive of my decision to serve a mission in Germany.

The Chrism Mass is celebrated by the bishop every year to bless the holy oils used by all of the parishes in the diocese for the coming year. It may be celebrated earlier in the day before the Holy Thursday masses, but it is often celebrated earlier that week. At least one member of each parish is represented to take some of the oils back to their parish, where they are presented as part of the Holy Thursday liturgy. Thesr are three oils which are used for annointing the sick, the newly baptised, and catechumens (those undergoing studies in seeking to join the Catholic Church). As you noted, the Bishop does not celebrate every Mass at his cathedral. Since he already celebrated the Easter Vigil the night before, which can last 3 hours or longer, he may have been resting on Easter Morning. However, as you also noted, nobody else sat in his chair. That chair is called the "cathedra" (Latin for "chair") from which the term cathedral is derived. It is a symbol of his authority over the local church. In historical terms you can think of the churches in Corinth, Ephesus, Rome, etc., which were led by an overseer (episcipos) originally given their authority by the Apostles. The cathedra thus symbolizes the bishop's office (think of "chair" as in the chairman of the board) as well as his personal chair from where he presides over his local church. Easter morning masses are always packed, often including people who don't regularly attend church, sometimes to respect the wishes of their parents if they are home visiting. And since the Easter Vigil mass is so late at night and lasts so long it is unusual for parents to bring their young children to the Vigil, so Easter morning is when you will see the families. I hope this answers some of your questions. Feel free to message me if you want to know more

Is it possible that the Bishop symbolically represents Christ through the weekly services, and left it empty on Easter morning purposefully, to represent "He is not here, He is risen"? I'm not sure if other Bishops do that, or if it is up to each Bishop how it's done, but it would be a cool idea (even if the Bishop was just sick that morning.)

What a gift and blessing to recognise that! 😊 I also really admire your willingness and humility to follow the signs of the cardinals and give serious thought to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! @@theonewhomjesusloves7360it is always hard to see people leave the Savior and His sacraments. As a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints it is hard for me to see people give up their baptism which connects them to Christ and their temple covenants which further connect them to Christ and to their family eternally. It seems so sad to give up so much. I can tell you have a deep and abiding conviction. I love to see faithful followers of Christ. In my experience the people who have decided to leave and no longer share the same religious beliefs any more are missed and still welcomed and loved. When I see them in the store I make a point to stop and talk. Mostly it seems to happen because they stop coming and including themselves. I could see a possibility for intentional distancing happening if they actually promote anti faith. But if that is not happening I don't know anyone who isn't anxious to be welcoming and loving to them and still deeply care for them

As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I have had a few opportunitues to attend churches with my Catholic and Evangelical friends before and during my mission with investigator. If anything, I was happy to see my friends'religious sphere and it gave pause for me to notice we all worship differently, have different beliefs despite having Christ as the commonality. It was helpful in asking myself about my LDS beliefs to where I was confirmed by the Spirit about the truthfulness of the Restored Gospel truths. When you are sincere and open the spirit will manifest the truth to you and I was thankful to have that witness. I admire other churches trying to worship Christ to the best of their knowledge even while I live the restored truths. I wish them well. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ.

As a lifelong Catholic, the woman deep in prayer at the end of the Mass was just that, deep in prayer, reflecting on the Mass. I doubt very much she was in any kind of crisis. As for the Bishop not being at that Mass, he celebrated the Vigil Mass (the most important Mass of the year). Bishops often go out to the parishes on Sundays but he simply could of had the Rector and priests of the Cathedral celebrate on Easter Sunday. I wish I was still in Wisconsin so I could go to Mass with you and explain some of the stuff!

I’m so sorry that you felt lonely and excluded especially during the Sign of Peace. You saying that has reminded me to look for people who are alone at Mass and make sure to reach out to them. Catholics are not great at reaching out … it’s an unfortunate cultural thing. Scott Hahn talks a great deal about what Catholics should learn from our evangelical brothers and sisters regarding community and welcome. The best thing to do when you attend Mass is to reach out prior to either the priest or to the Director of Religious Educatjon saying that you are not Catholic but attending Mass on a certain date. They will normally meet you before and/or pair you up with someone who can help explain things and answer questions. When I was learning about Catholicism, I had my boyfriend but he was a cradle Catholic and didn’t know anything. The Director of Religious Education was really helpful in connecting me with others.

Thank you once again, David. Excellent video. And a huge thanks to all your Catholic commenters for helping us non-Catholics to understand some of the masses and vigils a little better. Your commenters are wonderful, usually very respectful. Thank you, David, for helping us to converse. It is naturally difficult for us, each standing on his own hill, to be thoroughly respectful for and understanding of others on their own hills. You, I believe, are helping with that (hmm, no pressure, right). I admire many Catholics for their great reverence and for their near perfecting the ability to instruct through symbols, very beautiful. I wish in my own faith tradition, we could retain the doctrine we hold dear, but add to it the reverence I feel in the Catholic mass as well as the energy of some Evangelicals (meaning the energy for the gospel generally, not specifically referring to a worship service). When you discussed your vulnerabilities (I love you man), I played your comments then played my favorite "alone songs" with my daughter, comments - song, repeat comments - song, repeat comments - song. In our down moments, I find it important to maintain some humor. I played Eric Carmen - All By Myself (of course), Gilbert O'Sullivan - Alone Again Naturally (Happiest sad song ever), John Denver - No One. This of course added a little light hearted feeling as I watched. But I can only do that, one, because I love you bro; two, because I have been alone. I can cut you a mixed tape, brother, that would destroy the normal man. I became so accustomed to the feeling of aloneness it was hard for me to envision being any other way. Very sad, I have met many like me who loathe being alone but won't actually have it any other way. After I was married it took me a long time to learn how to not be alone. I am now in a wonderful marriage and have children, who, I know, will one day move away. I still have a tough habit of holding many at arms length, BUT since I have learned (not perfectly, still refining) to place my will on the altar, look outwardly to others' needs, and have developed a very personal relationship with Christ, trying to let Him lead. I do not believe I will ever feel alone again.

Chrism Mass -- this Mass happens every year. The Bishop blesses all the holy oils that are going to be used by Catholic Churches throughout the diocese for the whole year. You will find them in a place of honor at every Catholic Church. Chrism Mass gets its name from the chrism oil -- one of the anointing oils which is used at baptism to represent the sealing of the individual with the Holy Spirit. It draws back to the ancient practice of anointing which can be found throughout the Scriptures, Catholicism isn't the only Church that uses chrism -- I know other liturgical churches like the Episcopal church use it too! It has a lovely aroma. Two other oils are blessed during this Mass -- the oil of healing and the oil of the catechumens. The oil of healing is used during the sacrament of anointing of the sick. It is another anointing, this time to prepare an individual for hardship or even death. And then oil of catechumens is used to anoint someone preparing for baptism!

I really really dislike that practice. It's ok-good for lots of people. And traumatic for a few. Not a good risk/reward ratio. That being said. Don't allow yourself to feel like you don't belong because of families. Heaven will be filled families. Including you with yours. I am married now, but no children. I don't attend church on Mother's Day because... obvious reasons. Being different doesnt mean we don't belong. We are all a part of Gods family and on our own paths. But I will add, I am so sorry to hear of your experience with the sign of peace. I think that's many people's experience, unfortunately. I was reading a book that explained that the sign of peace is meant to be a moment of reconciliation, and that we should thus extend it to the people we know least or care for the least first, before our family and friends. Due to this book, I have changed my practice on the sign of peace. If I am at church with people I know, I make sure to reach out to the people I don't know as well first. You sharing this helps remind me how important this practice is.

Easter Vigil Mass. This Mass is AMAZING, but much longer than your typical Sunday service. It happens after sunset on Holy Saturday. As you mentioned, the Mass begins with a bonfire that is used to light the Easter candle. From this one Easter candle, the light of Christ dispels the darkness as it is spread to little candles being held by the whole congregation. Holding the candles, a beautiful chant happens describing how beautiful but mysterious the night before Christ's resurrection was. Then, a series of readings and Psalms extending from Genesis through all the major "plot points" of the Old Testament describes the story of the coming of Christ. It all culminates with a resounding song of joy, where all the lights are flipped on and bells are rang continuously. We then hear the Easter Gospel passage and a homily. After this, people are baptized, and/or confirmed. Then, Mass continues as usual to communion. Some churches will even hold their vigil at 3am as the Mass ends we are coming into the breaking light of Easter morning. But most Churches hold it around 8pm!

@@52churchesin52weeks yes! I've never gone to a 3am Easter Vigil Mass, but I know others who have. They've told me it's very neat, but in the end it's no different than the ~8pm version other than the fact that the sun rises. I will also note, depending on the church you go to they may have a different number of readings during that part where they do a recap of all the prophecies and covenants that lead up to Christ. I want to say it's 3-7 old testament readings, 3-7 Psalms, and then an epistle and the Gospel! The rest I described should be the same at every Easter Vigil across Catholic churches :)

Great work brother. This is so amazing that you experience this. Every element of every mass during Holy Week is planned and based on scripture and tradition of the apostles and the church fathers. The Chrism mass takes the sacred oils and blessed it. The Church makes use of three holy oils: the oil of the sick, the oil of the catechumens and the holy chrism oil. The first two are blessed, and the bishop consecrates the third, ordinarily during the annual Chrism Mass. Each has a distinctive purpose in the Church.

I have a hard time going to church because my husband and three children do not come with me. It’s hard being alone and I’m LDS now, so I feel like I stand out with out my family. It’s hard to swallow my pride and attend aline. Church felt easy when I was single, but I also attended a single adult ward. 🙂

@@heathersmeatherI have experience with having gone to Church with a broken "family" and even as a child would sometimes go all by myself. One thing I feel has stood out to me in my aloneness at Church is how much our Savior seeks after the one, He being The One. Though I do believe families are important, whether our family is at Church with us or not or alongside us in this point of our life's work or not, the Atonement is an individual gift our Savior gives to us each in a very personal manner. Though I have family to go to Church with now, there are ebbs and flows in which of my family will join me. And I have buried two children also, so it can be difficult sometimes even with loved ones beside me. I think it's amazing you and David and anyone who feels alone will make the effort to find a place of belonging at Church, and work to build a stronger relationship with the Savior.

As a single woman, Easter and other holidays are difficult for me, too. Actually after this Easter I’ve been thinking of going out of town for Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. As to why BB was missing from the Easter Day masses, it’s because liturgically the Vigil mass is the climax of Holy Week. It is the first mass of Easter. He presided over the most important Easter mass and left the other ones to the priests. Honestly after the week he had and that late Vigil mass, he was probably wiped out. You will never see one priest or bishop serving all the masses at a church even on a regular weekend unless it is a small one and there simply are no others.

You have to understand, that unlike protestant churches, Catholic parishes are not cults of personality. Protestants love to go be entertained by their favorite celebrity pastor. Catholic Mass is about receiving the true body and blood of Christ in the Eucharist. I regularly attend Mass in a language that I don't fully understand, still the body and blood of Christ.

First, I must say I love the footage of the wide open midwestern countryside. It's beautiful. My wife is from Iowa and we lived in Omaha, NE the first several years of our marriage, and sometimes we miss those wide open spaces. She gets a little claustrophobic being surrounded by mountains in Utah. Anyway, I converted to Catholicism 16 years ago (at the age of 44) and it is indeed a very complex faith. There is always something new to learn and explore. This is because the church has an uninterrupted history of over 2,000 years. That's about 1,500 years older than any Protestant sect, about 1,800 years older than the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and about 1,850 years older than the Jehovah's Witnesses. We have been building beautiful cathedrals around the world from before the Middle Ages right up until today. That 2,000 year history has seen many ups and downs, good and bad. I converted to the Roman Catholic Church from Protestantism after years of study and research. Believe me, the Catholic Church was the last place I expected to land. However, reading the Early Church Fathers and studying the Catechism of the Catholic Church convinced me the Catholic Church is the church Christ founded on this Earth. Things like beautiful buildings and friendliness of church members are nice, but actual history and theology are what matters most. As a Protestant, I was used to church being a "social event". In the Catholic Church, once I enter the sanctuary for Mass, it's just me and God. I love it. That's why Catholic churches are so quiet and peaceful. The sanctuary is a place of holiness where we pray and contemplate our savior. My wife and I spend time almost daily in our church's sanctuary, praying and "listening" to God. It's beautiful and I wouldn't trade it for any other faith.

I love how holy and beautiful mass always feels and is in the Catholic church and I love that song! That is one of my favorite hymns which we also have in our hymnal and sing often at Easter time in the LDS faith. Thank you for sharing this! I understand that feeling of being out of place. While our church does have mid-singles wards (ages 31 - 45) they aren't nation wide - they're only in a handful of states which is a real bummer. So where I moved to doesn't have one, but the family ward has been good - especially their adult Sunday school class. There are younger singles wards here (ages 18 to 30) which I'm too old for. But heck I'm almost too old for the mid-singles wards now too. 😄😭 Even older singles wards exist in the church (46 and up), but there are fewer and filled mostly with ages 60s and 70s so I would still feel out of place. I'm welcome everywhere I go though, as I'm sure you are, but yeah we do feel a bit like fish out of water. We just need to try to remember God is always with us no matter where we worship and that's what matters. I love what you said about Jesus visiting Mary Magdalene first after His resurection. 🙏

The reverence was astounding, and the sweet voices filled me with the spirit. I will never forget it. Your comment about how Bishop Barron spends his holy week blessing and trying to lift others is thought provoking. Shouldnt we all do the same to our neighbors? I appreciate the beauty and detailed planning that goes into this mass, probably it is impossible to measure the care, thiughtful planning, and hours of service that have been invested in that building, perhaps that is why it is so sacred-not due to the labor and artwork, but because of the love and worship that has taken place over the years. Im sure everyone involved is benefited in stronger faith and an increase of love. In my church i think some are too casual in their worship (me included)-not outer clothing: casual regarding inner preparation and worship. This video makes me remember how respectful and thankful i ought to be towards Christ, and take more care in how i approach church each sunday. Catholic mass shows a good example of these things. Thanks for the video and your thoughts!

One year you could attend an Easter Vigil mass, or even explore the masses, services and other traditions like pilgrimages during Holy Week. Easter Vigil is the mass when catachumens are received into the Church. One year my husband and I attended a Melkite Catholic church's Easter Vigil, and they even rolled back a "stone" symbolizing Christ's tomb. I still remember the joy of that experience. Everything within the mass is symbolic, and it all comes from scripture. God knows we are both body and soul, so engaging the senses is important. If the rituals seem mysterious or puzzling, there is always a good explanation. Almost every parish church offers RCIA classes for people who would like to learn more. I am sorry this was a lonely experience for you. I've frequently gone to Mass alone as a young person, but we are never truly alone at Mass. The Saints and Angels are gathering there with us. God does not expect us all to get married and start families. In fact, Paul writes in favor of celibacy! There is a long tradition in the Church of consecrated single life and monastic life. I wouldn't worry too much for that young woman. It's quite common to stay after Mass to pray and meditate. We don't have enough peace and quiet in this world, and sitting quietly with Jesus is special. Nine years ago I became baptized, received Christ in the Eucharist, and got confirmed after becoming fully convinced that the Catholic Church (which means Universal) was the church Christ started. I will never forget the sense of peace and warmth I felt. It's humbling to think about how I could join God's family, consume Him in the Eucharist, and become transformed by His Grace. Happy Easter, and may God bless you!

I’m late seeing this, but you likely only missed Bishop Barron presiding because he was at a different mass that day. Many if not most Catholic Churches have more than one mass on Easter Sunday during the day, and the priests/bishop divide up the masses that day, so you were just at the one he didn’t say. Of course, he didn’t just skip Easter Sunday. He was there, just at a different mass and you were at the wrong time (to catch him specifically). Someone at the diocese probably could have told you the schedule ahead of time if you called to ask them which mass he would be saying on Easter Sunday. Of course, he didn’t preside on all of those other days during holy week, and skip out on Easter Sunday, but the Easter vigil is usually about three or more hours long, and he would choose which mass he would say on Easter Sunday, and have other priests presiding over the other ones. In my home parish here in Florida there can be up to nine masses on any given weekend, and usually several on Easter Sunday morning. The Chrism Mass is traditionally celebrated once a year during holy week, often on Holy Thursday, but it can be celebrated earlier in the week. All of the priests of the diocese meet together in the Cathedral for the diocese, and the bishop or archbishop blesses the holy oils for the year. There are three distinctly different kinds of oil, and then those are distributed to the parishes in the diocese by their parish priest, returning home from the Chrism Mass, and they are brought forward at the beginning of the Holy Thursday mass. It’s an important part of the liturgy to have those oils brought up, because they have been consecrated. The Easter vigil is traditionally when all of the new members are baptized and/or confirmed, So, depending on the number of catechumens, it can run fairly long, but it is a beautiful service, and one of my favorites of the year along with Holy Thursday. It celebrates the institution of the priesthood and the Eucharist, and feet are always washed at that mass. What are you experienced during the sine of peace is not unusual during post COVID times. People were not shaking hands during COVID, and some people are still reluctant to do that, and will keep more to themselves. It was certainly not personal. The woman you saw on the way out of church was just praying. Many Catholics do that before and/or after mass. If you go on Holy Thursday, you will see Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in silence after the mass. Since that particular woman had her head covered, I would just assume she is more orthodox, but certainly it wouldn’t have meant anything different if someone with an uncovered had had been doing the same, and it is a very familiar sight in Catholic Churches. It doesn’t necessarily mean it is a Gethsemane moment; it can be just prayerful, or even thankful. I’m sorry you missed Bishop Barron. Any time you are planning to visit a cathedral looking for the bishop or Archbishop, you should have check ahead of time to find out which masses they are presiding at. He wouldn’t have presided all week and then skipped out on Easter Sunday, and there is no particular symbolism to that. Also, regarding the symbolism of the crucifix, you’ll find that the Eucharist is considered to be the embodiment of Jesus Christ, and that is treated quite differently from Holy Thursday through Good Friday until Holy Saturday, which is the symbolism you were looking for. I recommend sometime in your life you celebrate an entire holy week in a Catholic Parish, and go to all of the masses from Holy Thursday through Easter Sunday. It is a journey.

Most cathedrals are also home to a local parish church (as is the case with this one according to a glimpse of the sign near the beginning of your video). And the Easter Sunday mass you attended was probably celebrated by the parish clergy vs. the diocesan. The Easter Vigil mass is the most important of the Church year unlike in most Protestant churches where Easter is celebrated after sunrise on Sunday morning. Hope this adds a little more knowledge to all the other great comments posted by fellow Catholics.

Hi David! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on how it might feel uncomfortable to attend service for single people when it all seems to revolve around families. I always wonder why modern American Christianity has become heavily focused on the concept of family when the Gospels actually profess otherwise, except for the allegory of marriage. In my view, it should not be interpreted literally like other aspects of scripture. I missed out on many services in my life because I felt like I didn't fit in until I joined the Episcopal Church. In my church (Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, which you definitely should visit), we have gay and lesbian priests and transgender clergy, which, depending on one's background, may be perceived as too liberal, radical, or antitraditional. What is more traditional in Christianity than the monastic tradition, after all? Wouldn't we even have Christianity today if it hadn't been for all the monks and nuns who carried the spirit of Christianity through millennia? What about the apostles with whom it all started? For all we know, they could have been queer or different in some other way. They dedicated their lives to spiritual pursuits rather than earthly matters like starting families. The very existence of this religion is due to single people who didn't fit the mold, and I'm very grateful for your channel where you share your journey of visiting all these amazing churches, which might be only possible because you're single and don't fit the mold either.

Easter is for all! Easter is nothing more than celebrating that Christ rose as he said he would, which means he broke the bands of death for all. Please never feel Easter is not for you as a single son of God. Again it is young and old, bond and free, all men. When I was 16, I went to visit some friends that moved out of our neighborhood to California. I grew up in the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. My first experience at their Catholic church was very boring. I only remember someone at a corner in the church pulpit reading then they would sing then they would nail on their knees and pray cross their cross on their head to chest and I found that to be completely weird. Please keep in mind I was 16 years old and knew nothing of the sorts. I told my friends I did not want to go to church again after I went the second time. They told their catholic friends who knew some friends that were members of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. That worked out perfect. It turned out that these people were in the same ward as my uncle (mom’s brother) So for the remaining four weeks I had in California, I got to have family home evening with my aunt and uncle and cousins and see them at church on Sundays. What a small world.. Catholic prayers confuse me, they sound more like pagan prayers than what the Lord taught with addressing the Father, being thankful, asking for… and blessings. Church is, Christ taught the Lord’s Prayer: “When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.” Some of the prayers address mother Mary first, Holy Queen [Mother Mary] and also Jesus ChristThe other issue that I have is prayers are not supposed to be memorized they are supposed to come from the heart. You will not see that in a Catholic ceremony or church. In the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints, someone from the congregation will be called to give the prayer both opening and closing, the only prayer that I know of that is pre-written is a prayer or dedication to a church house or temple. I have many other issues with the Catholic Church, I guess if I wasn’t 110% sure that the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true, I would lean more towards the Methodist Church. Aptest Catholics, the church of England, Seventh-day Adventist, something science I’ve been to all of these churches, and find Niecy tiny bit of truth but most of it is set up for the world and where the world wants the church to be not where Christ wants the church. None of the churches have the true that Jesus Christ set up when he was on the Earth. He called 12 disciples to follow him. Judas betrayed him leaving 11 disciples. Who did he go visit on the road to the Mac Damascus? Paul Paul became the 12th disciple and if you look at the 12th disciples in the Rome temple visitor center you will see all 12 including Paul and many of the writings of Paul are in the holy Bible. So, how I see it is, all churches excluding the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints lacks having 12 apostles, a prophet, who receives revelation direct from Christ. Another very important teaching that is taught in the book of Malachi that we are to pay a 10% tithing. I do not know any church that ask their members to pay 10%. Basically they pass a plate and you put whatever you feel comfortable with putting, some will put a lot, some will put very little, we want to remember what Christ taught his disciples with the widows mite. I could go on and on, but I’m gonna leave it here. If you really want to be a part of the true living church of Jesus Christ, I encourage you to study it out in your heart God to provide you direction. Please keep in mind that Satan does not want you to have the truth, and will put every roadblock in your way , but remember God is more powerful than Satan. He will guide you if you have a true desire and faith to accept and know the truth.

Catholics pray as Jesus taught us to pray (the Our Father - as Catholics call it or the Lord’s Prayer as Protestants call it) EVERY Mass. Also liturgical worship can feel strange at first but keep in mind that is how Christian’s have worshipped for nearly 2000 years. Traditional Protestant denominations such as Episocpal and Lutheran are still liturgical to some degree. Don’t knock what you don’t understand!
