Recently, James visited the tugboat JUPITER in Philadelphia. Over 100 years of service, she has worked all manner of jobs including being the first tug to catch the lines of USS NEW JERSEY (BB-62) when she was launched in 1942.
Today, she is owned by the Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild and used as an educational tool in telling Philadelphia's historic maritime history. In a few months time, it's hoped JUPITER can once again participate in escorting the NEW JERSEY back to Camden following their drydocking.
But to achieve that, she needs your help. Head on over to their website to learn how you can support their mission.

Chris is such a down to Earth, well-spoken, and knowledgeable guy. Any historic tugboat would be lucky to have him as a friend!

Cool vessel! Always love seeing big old EMD power plants inside ships. Glad there are people working to keep her alive.

The 6-110 , Detroit 2 cycle . Was used by a Philly company Budd in Red Lion to run the self powered rail car called Budd RDC . Two, one per truck . One model had only one diesel but had to be used with a two engine unit . I think they were originally used in WWii tanks ? The567 is a great engine series . My ships had the later model the 645 also by EMD . The number was the size in cc of each cylinder . So one cylinder the size of an entire large car engine or bigger ….

@@josephpadula2283post war, nearly every steam tug was getting re powered! WO Decker (1930) was got a 6-110. Elisa Ann Connors got a surplus Atlas diesel. This is of course a 567c later updated to CA. Diesel power was cheap, less man power to run, and made room in the engine room for more junk!
