As crazy as it sounds, I believe those allegations are true about the Philadelphia Experiment. How can someone just make up a story like that, especially in 1943?

What people call this a conspiracy theory it also has some fact to it. People in Norfolk, Virginia saw it too.

Are yall ever planning on moving the ship under her own power? i ask that because i seee youve started some of her engines(or DGs im not sure)
@jimmiles33
@jimmiles33 14 күн бұрын
No. Her current moorings are not well suited to be able to get in and out without a tugboat. There’s also miles of plumbing we would need to overhaul to make it possible. For now, have one of each type of engine in running shape is good enough for the engineering volunteers.

Is there plans for the slater to go into dry dock in the near future or has that happened in the last decade?

So exciting to see preparations towards getting a main running! You mentioned that several brushes were in rough shape; do you know of spares or replacements?
@jimmiles33
@jimmiles33 25 күн бұрын
Yes. I can order them new right now if needed. Also have a friend who hoardes Cleveland parts. So could also get old stock/used ones. If we wanted to get underway, I’d advocate for new brushes.

My father served on the Stern, Wesson and lastly the Swearer, all Cannons. He stayed stateside as part of a skeleton crew mothballing these ships. He was a radio operaterator. It would be nice to see bridge and communications areas. He passed away at the age of 96 , 2023.

I would suggest a stop at a veterinary supply store. They have these really long gloves that vets use to reach into the "back ends" of equines and bovines. That should help with the filters.

These engine room related videos are great. IMO - we should end each one with a short promo for “Slater Engine Room” tours. Engineering spaces were the beating heart of a Destroyer Escort. They’re bypassed on regular tours, but can be visited today. This is only possible because of the arduous work described in these videos.

AvE taught me that I have to yell expletives at the camera to get it to focus properly. Does the oil filter lid use a gasket or sealant? Looks like there's remnants but I couldn't tell what it used to be.

Gasket. I will very likely make a new one rather than go through the process of ordering one. Not sure if H&K have DE specific parts.

Thank you for this video. I admire the sailor’s dedication. I have never served in the military. However, as the current caretaker of many U S. Navy clocks and chronometers, I would differ on many point. One being the M. Low clock. Definitely not a Chelsea. My own M. Low clocks use their own unique movement. M. Low and Chelsea faces look the same because they were designed to a specific contract specification.
