This week I really needed to go visit some very special plant, friends in the greenhouse, and do a greenhouse tour at my friend John’s. My huge Eugenia Topiary are doing great and it was so fun visiting them and my other plant darlings that will be coming home this spring. I hope you enjoy this tour… We’ve included some before and after images so you can see where these topiaries have been placed in the past, and where they will come home, as soon as a chance of frost is over.

After your visit today to the greenhouse,checking your plants, you can identify with me, going down in my basement furnace room,to water 19 of these Eugenia Topiaries. Most all 6-7 ft high. I have 1 ball, two ball, 3 ball, 4 ball, and spiral. Water,turn them about every 10 days. I have a grow light on timer for 12 hours a day. I just watered ,the other day and I leave them with,( Soon girls,Spring is coming,hang in there,your doing just fine) 🌳🌳🥰 I could hear ,the bit of excitement,in your voice,checking your plants out today.

Our neighbors have beautiful landscaping. In their landscaped front beds on 2 sides are huge Amarilis bulbs. Every summer for weeks the Amarillis blooms. About every 3-4 years, they have the bulbs thinned out and sale the bulbs. Their landscaping is one of the most beautiful during this time when the amaryllises are in their glory time.

The magnolia trees that are espaliered would look lovely against your backyard fence along the street. You can still place the plant stands you have in front of them. Something to think about.

Btw Linda just a thought why don’t you tie a little picture on your plants in the greenhouse, of the cottage on the hill, so there is no confusion to other people that these plants belong to you.Just a thought.😊🦘😊🙏🪴

Hi from Annie how lovely that greenhouse area is and the plants are saved from all types of weather, Very handy to have even a small shade house you could do it easily at you back yard area the spot left of your back door fantastic spot, you can fit a shade house in to any garden big or small it is so easy give it some thought does not need a professional you can build it your self maybe a friend could help or huby. There are kit forms too for those that are bit lazy or impatient and don't want to take too long and can have an instant shade house then, lit forms go up in couple hours all done then put bark on the ground and few benches in there and plants all done. I have done this couple times over the years. The good thing is you can move them around too especially those kit ones which come in all sizes. I had a friend help me we had a bit of a kit and built on to it as well this was over 20yrs ago. Mostly using wood and steel posts and shade cloth. I love that shirt it matches those gorgeous flowers in full bloom growing so well inside too they cheer the place up blooms at xmas and for V Day that is great. I will put a small video on my U Tube channel for V Day showing my garden moved lots around and always room for improvements, will put it on my facebook too. Bet you can't wait to get all your pot plants back home. Well cheers to all have a great Valentine's Day.😘😘🥰

I don’t remember you letting your amaryllis dry out and replant in spring. I always thought you just kept them growing until the end of summer and then you’d let them dry out. Love looking at all of the decor at the greenhouse!

I learn so much from you. I am planning to start some foxtail ferns from seed. I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm gonna try anyway. Have a great week!
@jdartdiva1

I’ve never heard of starting them from seed! They’ve certainly gone up in price (like everything else) but I think if you really love Foxtails, just buy them because they take a while to grow as large as the specimens shown in the greenhouse image. Also- they are NOT cold harder! Older specimens left out to winter “might” return from the roots but if they do, they are literally starting over from scratch. I absolutely LOVE them and I protect mine during winter in my greenhouse or inside my home. Anyway, best of luck!

Okay, will you please share your process? You talk about visiting your plants over wintered in a greenhouse. How does one find such a facility ? How does one go about finding one, how much do they cost, what are the requirements of the facility that will ensure protection? Will you interview the owner of the greenhouse, what is their responsibilities, is it a favor or is it something that is profitable for them? My curiosity spills over because I would love to have these plants and have had these plants and I don’t have a greenhouse and I have had to let these plants die. Please help me start to source a facility like the one you just visited. Thanks 🙏

The large green leaf plants that look tropical, look like my cast iron plants. I am in central NC Linda just east of Raleigh my cast iron plants are in FULL shade and stay outside. (7b 8 border zone) Your area gets colder winter blasts that might be why they are in a greenhouse for winter.

I ant a green house so much. I loose all my Boston ferns, foxtail ferns and other items because I have no place to overwinter them. Can you make any recommendations? I was in zone 5 now called zone 6a. Your plants looked so healthy in the green house. This was fun.....

I am winterizing by Eugenia in my home by a window. I have a light shining on them. They still have growth and green leaves, but a lot of brown and shedding leaves as well. What other pointers do you have for these plants if you do not have greenhouse space.
