In a rush... The Purpose Exercise begins at 2:34
This Personal Development video is about an exercise that can begin your journey towards defining and living an inspiring purpose in your life. Many people have asked me over the recent weeks how to go about establishing a vision for their lives. This is a simple tool that I learnt over 8 years ago. It had a big impact on my life, so big that I went back and invited the person who taught it to me out for lunch to celebrate.

Thanks Conor for sharing! After going through this exercise in finding my Purpose and Defining my Vision, what I drew placed flesh (drawings) on the bones (words) of what I had written about my life. My drawings of defining the life I'd like to be living actually spoke to me much deeper than using words. It was like looking in front of me and saying, that's me... that's what I want... that's who I am. Simple exercise and yet very impactful and profound. If I could sum up in one word describing my experience by drawing my life, it would be "Enliven"! My eyes have been opened, for I'm beginning to see again. A big hearty Thank You! ~Jim

Excellent Video clip! Apologies for the intrusion, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you tried - Chiveard Discovering Potential Framework (do a google search)? It is a smashing one off product for finding your true calling and achieving success without the normal expense. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my cooworker after a lifetime of fighting got great results with it.

Thank you for your interesting and challenging conversations, I am learning so much and you have a lovely relaxed but confident manner of presentation. This visualization really works - I have used it for several other areas of my life. I am 58 yr old mother of 5 and started studying this year because I have a current medium-term goal of what I wish to achieve. Thank you for teaching us about people and public speaking skills, which I will definitely employ in my administration of a private school. Belinda Venter

Thanks Conor ... just watch it again after it first came out ... "Definition" I think is the clue why it works ... anything that makes us think & define what we are doing & what we are after ... describing it in images or words ... then makes us zero in on it ! :-)

It always seems to me that an important piece of the pie that is often missing is the idea of being 'open'- open to change-open to ideas of others-open to a new way of thinking-open to meeting others.Somewhere in a closed circle there must be an opening.It is often random events or encounters that give you that inspiration to climb the Himalayas.

I can see that your videos with all this valuable tips provided for free have few views . And a lot of garbage videos like stunts or someone who does a joke or I don't know has millions of views, this shows us how is the availability of the people to personal development, and how much do they want to be an example, to be a proactive person...

so, i did this exercise and i need some help with it. contribution was hazy, i painted instruments and a tv on, that's what came up from the inside, i don't know what it means, or how i contribute with it and spiritual is empty, can you explain that a bit more what you mean by that. besides that it was an awesome exercise and the pictures i drew really resonate with me on the inside, thank you so much

Interesting. Often goal setting and finding our purpose requires one to focus on one or two things for the beginning 1/3 of ones life. In reality we are more complex as this process shows. The challenge for me has been to simultaneously balance all these areas. Most "succesful" people seem to focus on one of the pieces of the pie for a period or until they achieve financial or professional independence. Then they reflect (as they now have the time) to find the balance. In the wake is divorce, weight gain and/or disconnected children. Onward and upward.

Ciao Conor, Thank you for sharing :-) I'm very interested in Personal Development and you're inspiring me since I first met you at IESE with my Company a couple of yours ago. I'm about to start this exercise, but could you kindly clarify the meaning of "contribution" ? Is it about what I can give to others ?
@luticia

And what is the/your real reason why you don't eat broccoli but often unhealthy stuff? I mean you have the wisdom, you also have the money to buy some veggies and it doesn't take more time if you eat broccoli or a plate with red meat. So what's behind this block? There must be a more deeply reason. Maybe it has something to do with longing? Maybe the red meat reminds you on something, gives you a comfortable cozy feeling while broccoli doesn't. etc

EXACTLY! Spices are everything in the kitchen! I've got at least 100 different types of spices. I use them every day and some of them are so tasty that it's enough to eat them only on plain broccoli :-)

Amazing tool, we were having the "purpose" discussion with my wife for a while, so the tool arrives in the right timing. With regards Brocoli, I really recommend you to read the book "Eat to live" from Dr. Joel Fuhrman (also available in audiobook). It inspired me to eat food that is good for my health, to understand his "health equation" where Health = Nutrients/Calory and to reduce the amount of "empty calorie food" (food with zero nutrients and just calories). It might give you some insights that will support you on achieving your brocoli purpose. Thank you one more time for your videos
