Loved the very informative video with John Kohler. I wonder if one blended in a Vitamix, poured it in an airtight mason jar and vacuumed the air out with a mason jar vacuum if the nutritional results would be the same or close to a vacuum blender...or if the air in the blending already compromised nutrients and no turning back from there? Thanks for the thorough review.
@TheRawAdvantage
@TheRawAdvantage 4 жыл бұрын
Stoked you enjoyed too :) John is great! From what I have learnt the largest part of oxidization technically occurs from the blending, then, because air is “whipped” into the mixture during blending, further oxidization takes place after the fact. So no, they still would be different as there is more damage in the first place and less active antioxidants to keep it fresh anyways. Hope this helps :)
@DoctorRevers
@DoctorRevers 4 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Thanks for doing that. Been interested in these vacuum blenders for a while since John's first videos on them. I know you said you also make use of an immersion stick blender. John was saying he didn't think they did a great job when it comes to oxidization reduction. But I use mine and keep it submerged and am pretty sure it does do a pretty good job. (of course I could be wrong). Would it be possible, if youre interested as well, in doing a little test with your immersion blender keeping it submerged etc. I'd be really curious, not having a vitamix or a vacuum blender (yet) myself. Great job. Love the channel. Keep it rollin brother.

After watching an interview where you talked about all this, I just bought a Nuwave Moxie 28082 vacuum blender for £120. Its really good. 2l jug simular to a vitamix in shape a quality. I am shocked Vitamix haven't made one or at least an upgrade kit.

That’s awesome! I am a bit too, but I am sure it’s due to warranty concerns. Vitamix is known to have the best warranty in the buis and I’ve never seen a vacuum blender last more than a few years, usually less.
@RawVeganFruitarian
@RawVeganFruitarian 7 ай бұрын
@@TheRawAdvantage the quality of the smoothie is way more important that the life of the blender. A great warranty won't improve the quality of a smoothie in an "Airamix" Vitamix. In one of John's vids on converting an Vitamix with a Void system he says now they come with an RF chip on the jug to stop people doing that, and some even have an extra bubbles feature...ditch Vitamix they are not for quality fruit smoothies.
@TheRawAdvantage
@TheRawAdvantage 7 ай бұрын
I’ll admit I would disagree, while I for sure prefer vacuum blending it’s not so major imho that I would ditch vitamix, especially since it’s fairly easy to convert into a more powerful vacuum blender. Their bend is on the culinary aspect rather than nutrition first, but I do hope they make a vacuum model as well. All this said I hope the Nuwave lasts long and works super well for you!

I doubt that it would make much of a difference but, I'm not sure why you would run the Vitamix as long as the vacuum if you wouldn't normally run it that long. Seems like you're over blending and not giving accurate results for the Vitamix. Just my opinion but great video and I'm a little tempted to try the vacuum. Does it do nuts well?

I fully hear you and thought the same thing when I first heard of vacuum blenders, but, trying it I couldn’t believe how much of a difference it makes! I also hear you on the blending time, I mention this in the video, but felt that was the best way to compare. In reality I could run both shorter but I was going on the flexzion cycle. Is there any way to turn off the beeping w/ the flexzion? The beeping is gonna drive my dogs nuts. One of them already raised their head up when i was watching your review. I had to turn it down so he wouldn’t hear it due to the beeping. Also does it only beep when you press a button or turn the knob? I see it beeps when it’s done too. Which vitamix model was that as well? I am torn b/t finding the blender right for me. I am someone who wants to do smoothies of course, but i also want do nut butters, and nut milks. I want to also be able to add cacao nibs and or raw oats into my smoothie. I also like my smoothies w/ some grit. I’m very much attracted to vacuum blending as soon as i learned about it. I have been researching a lot. I have a masticating juicer as well that i love and i find that vacuum blending is like the cold press of blenders basically. I think it’s awesome. The ones i am torn b/t are: vitamix 3500 (what’s not to like, cept i can’t finance thru afterpay), tribest dynapro dps-1050a-b (louder, but seems to be the most solid for everything i need it for, plus HUGE 15yr warranty) and it vacuums. I said no to Kuvings sv500 due to certain design flaws and it’s high maintenance and i don’t like their warranty (fine print)
@TheRawAdvantage
@TheRawAdvantage 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no, the flexzion beeps like that when you start it and when it finishes, also if you leave it plugged in it will beep after a few minutes. For the vitamix it’s the Canadian “total nutrition Center” which is essentially they main base model. Overall for what your wanting I’d bet a Vitamix, any of em, would be best. I am about to launch a video showing a inexpensive way to make the vitamix a vacuum blender too :) I don’t know much about the tribest or kuvigs. Hope you find the one that works best for you!

thanks for the video. i think the comparison would be more fair if the blending time is based on the doneness of the beverage given that the vitamix is more powerful. Any thoughts? It might make a small difference in the bubble hehehehe... something like 30 seconds with the vacuum blender and 15 secs with the vitamix. I don't know what the recommended time is but please do a video with the appropriate corresponding time and see if there is any change. I have a newer (short jug) vitamix and I'm looking for tools to incorporate vacuum blending to it. i hope vitamix develops a lid that can hold an air extraction tool. it seems vacuum blending is the way to go for fresher smoothies.
@TheRawAdvantage
@TheRawAdvantage 3 жыл бұрын
It would be really challenging to determine the blending time for each, I have thought of this but due to those realities, as well as the fact I can’t find the flexzion on Amazon anymore, I haven’t. That said I can tell you the results are very very similar no matter how long you blend in the vitamix, it always makes the smoothie more frothy compared to the vacuum blender and the vacuum blender always looks brighter, tastes better and takes longer to separate.
@luvleecute
@luvleecute 3 жыл бұрын

More than my pleasure! I use the vitamix to juice but it still whips the air into the food while blending so juicing it after wouldn’t eliminate this issue, if anything that would cause a bit more after. Personally this isn’t anything I worry about but am conscious of. A cold press juicer would cause the least oxidization, perhaps they will have vacuum cold pressed juice in the future.

I'd still take the vitamix because it does so much more than just make smoothies. As far as nutritional value, it doesn't matter if vacuum blending retains more of the vitamins. There is no way you can utilize all those excess vitamins so you would just pee out it out much like a mega vitamin. That said, if I were treating anyone with a serious illness, the vacuum blender would be preferable.
@TheRawAdvantage
@TheRawAdvantage 3 жыл бұрын
I love both for sure and if I could only use one it would be the Vitamix. That said I wouldn’t say your statement about peeing out the extra is accurate. Sure you can only absorb so much at one time / speed, but to say you accurately 100% know what that upper threshold is for each nutrient, which could be different for each person and even day week or month, imho is a stretch. The vacuum excels in preserving more antioxidants which have been shown to vastly help with free radicals and of course keep many of the nutrients sensitive to oxidization intact. Beyond this the flavour and texture differences are quite profound. Once vitamix makes a good vacuum blender... booommmbb

I decided to return it. Here's why. 1. it's insanely loud, I have a noise sensitivity and live in a small studio home. As such I literally have to run out the door and go another 30 feet to get away from the vacuum noise. It also makes an unnecessary and super irritating beep noise everytime it's turned on or I change settings or even just start and stop it so I can manually control the pulse. 2. The lowest setting is still too high which aside from noise increases oxidation by splashing around food. 3. If I want to test my the blend to see if it needs adjusting by adding to it, I have to go through the whole vacuum process again, including running out the door. 4, The main thing, I found that this thing still creates more oxidation is my food than expected. I can see taste, and smell, noticeable effects of oxidation with this blender, not saying it's a lot of oxidation however I thought it would reduce this more than it does. 5. I probably had higher and thus unmet expectations because my smoothies must not be as bad as most other peoples because I practice some techniques to minimize oxidation in my non vacuum blender. My blender is the Oster BLSTSS-PZ0-126 which works better than most blenders because of the shape of the container, (I don't think square shape blenders are ideal), and that the lowest setting is actually really low and the highest setting is still sufficient. Depending what I'm blending, I use a potato masher to compact my ingredients down and I use the lowest setting possible and the shortest time possible that still gets the job done. I put my ingredients in an order that will allow me shorter blend time and lower settings. I make an effort to minimize splashing and the air tornado in the middle. I sometimes open the blender and spoon push the ingredients so I can then blend again on lower settings instead of blasting the power higher than I need. By following these techniques I get just about the same amount of oxidization in my foods as when I use the vacuum blender. Depending on what I'm making I may even get slightly less oxidation or slightly more oxidation in my non vavuum blender compared to this Flexzion. It''s more so the soft ingredients that do better in my non-vacuum blender but the harder ingredients cause more splashes and thus more oxidation than the vacuum blender, but it's not a lot more. So overall comparable levels of oxidation as my non-vacuum blender but the Oster blender is is cheaper, quieter, more simple to use, and takes up less space. 5. Everytime people do these vacuum smoothie vs non vacuum smoothies comparisons they are showing products that are blended 10x stronger and 10x longer than they needed to be blended. And when you overblend your non vacuum smoothie than of course in that case the blender vacuum is the clear winner. I seriously question these tests that are done and quotes on nutrient reduction / preservation boasting 4x more nutrients, ect, because surely everyone is doing overly aggressive blending in these tests. But if you put in a little basic effort to compact your bled, take it, blend lowest possible, blend shortest possible then I think this vacuum blender is definitely not worth it at all. However, if someone made a vacuum blender with the Oster shaped glass jar, low settings that were actually low, a more quiet vacuum and blending, I would reconsider getting one because it would genuinely have much less oxidation. 6. The picture ad on amazon says 10 speed control but I don't see any way to change 10 speeds and when I email the company about it they said they don't even know about that and had to email the manufacturer and didn't respond back about that . 7. My first unit came defective and only vacuumed and would not change settings so I could not actually blend with it. They did replace the broken unit with a working unit but I don't like it... 8. I've decided to return the blender because of all the prior listed reasons. They claim a 30 day satisfaction guarantee and the blender said "Free Returns" at the time of purchase. I received my replacement blender 1 month from the time of my original purchase and instead of giving me a 30 day return window extension based on when I got a replacement they were saying they would take the return but I would have to pay shipping. When you hit "Return And Replace" on Amazon, it extends the return window based on the replacement including the free return shipping window. But because this replacement was done through me messaging them about the first unit not working, there was no official replacement in the amazon system and so the company. In my view that's pretty unfair business. Imagine advertising a product with free returns and then bypassing the customers free return by sending them a broken unit followed by a working at the end of the 30 day return window and not extending their free return window...? That's pretty low in my opinion but fortunately Amazon helped me out and I'm getting my full refund back. . 9. However, my experience is only mine and other people might like this blender. If you get a working unit, don't mind the loud noise, and are used to using over powered blenders and bad blending technique that splash around your ingredients for 10x longer than you need to, this blender might be a good choice because you will get better results than you are used to. 10. I honestly was about 90% sure I'd love this blender but unfortunately I was wrong. The concept of vacuum blending is not flawed, it's just I consider this to be a poor application of a good concept Yes this is a super long post for KZfaq but it will also be my Amazon review soon. I would like to potentially save other people time and money who perhaps share some commonalities with some of the points in my review.

You're welcome :) It was still a good experience to use a vacuum blender and has planted some seeds in me for the future because as I said, I still support the concept of vacuum blending in general. I hope that eventually a vacuum blender is released that better lines up with what I would consider to be the theoretical ideal vacuum blender.. But if I can't find anything, I may look into those kits and / or tutorials in which people turn regular blenders into vacuum blenders so I can keep my using my current favorite blender but upgrade it to vacuum status.

There we go, if vitamin c is you main concern then yes using a vacuum blender and or adding something like Amla powder to smoothies could help :)

Hmmm, I'm not as convinced, I think if you let the one blended from the Vitamix sit for a while, the air comes to the top and the bottom will be about the same color as the vacuum blender. I don't have the Vitamix, but I do have a high speed blender, and I'll stick with it. Haha. If you don't already have a high speed blender, maybe, but not sure that vacuum blender will blend like the one I currently have, which can blend anything you put in it.

I was doubtful as well before I tried a vacuum blender but they blew me away! Don’t get me wrong I still use my vitamix even without the diy hack, but it does make a huge difference in taste texture color and antioxidant profile, this has been documented with studies. If you haven’t watched my video on “are vacuum blenders worth it with John Kohler” you may find it interesting. 🙏🏼

And you can pimp your vitamin with a vacuum sealed jug that fits on the vitamix base .... so the best of both worlds ..... the brand jug is a Biochef..... note if your in anyway concerned about warranty of vitamix by using a non vitamix compatible jug ... then don't do it ..... I personally think I will buy the jug and have the best of both 👍

@@TheRawAdvantage why didn't you get the kit for $ 180.-? Much less complicated and it's a big jug. It works so well on my 10yr old Vitamix. The handle on it is placed so much better than on the Vitamix jug. I'm very happy that you brought it to my attention. Never will make smoothies in the regular Vitamix again. And I'm saying that after only one single try. Amazing! Oh, and it doesn't make smoothies warm. Thanks Chris! You rock!!!

I originally was going to do that and I asked John, he said he honestly thought it was better / more worth it to just buy the Flexzion for less money, I knew he had tested a ton so I went with his advice. I may try that as well and am currently fitting my vitamix with a pump, video in the future on that

For grapes I prefer organic for sure, but I always go for seedless, especially with grapes and watermelon, and have no worry about seedless fruit for a variety of reasons.

For sure a accident, but, I’ve done the same many times now with the lid closed the whole time and even 1/2 the blending time with the vitamix and there is still marked differences in taste and texture, as well as color and time for separation. I still use the vitamix a ton and love it but the difference is pretty amazing!
