Vladimir Guerrero Jr was on an meteoric rise, then watched his numbers drop the last two years, are we already seeing his decline? Vladdy went from a top prospect, to finishing second for the 2021 MVP, and now just turning 25 years old his numbers have declined in back to back years. But Guerrero is far from done, he still has the tools that make him such a dangerous hitter, and he's been getting better then his numbers might suggest. Vladdy's about to bounce back with another monster season, and in this video we'll take a look at why.

As a baseball fan, I hope he bounces back. He’s a lot of fun to watch. As a Yankees fan, do it against everyone but us 💀

I'm a Vlad Jr. fan, even if my team is in the same division. His father was great, he was great that one year. I have a feeling he's coming back to MVP-level performance too.

Totally fair to respect a rival player, who's your team?

I’d love for him to breakout as a Jays fan but i try to be realistic… A lot was working for him in 2021 (little league parks and juiced balls) and he’s shown very little mechanical improvements in his ABs (he’s tried for a higher launch angles but it hasn’t really worked all that much with his career low GB rate being 45%) Vladdy’s good but I think his norm will be around a .300 hitter and in the 30s for Homeruns… Id be surprised if he’s an MVP caliber player for any consistent stretch

His great year was in a covid bubble without fans in a minor league ballpark. The average of his other years is the vladdy you will see going forward(still solid, but not up to the hype). Its not a talent thing, but a lack of focus (it was there during covid). His head just isn't in the game. Im a jays fan btw, so i hope he proves me wrong.

The thing I dont get is now a days we say peoples numbers should have been better but got unlucky but somehow as a kid watching baseball the stars always put up good numbers. We never said they performed worse than the numbers suggest. They just consistently put up big numbers year after year

Why do you think that is? Not having as many advanced stats years ago, hitters being more well rounded?

Great players still put up great numbers, it’s just that they’re great numbers that could have been better with a little more luck… More advanced statistics and the lack of nostalgia for current players makes guys seem worse than they are… I’m not sure how old you are but looking back, guys had their down years; A Rod followed his insane 96 year with a (still great) but unexpected .846 OPS year and in the meat of his prime in 04 he had another sub .900 OPS year… Cal Ripken had an below average .689 OPS in 92 and had plenty of prime years in the low to mid .700s… Tony Gwynn had multiple prime years with a sub .800 OPS despite spending most of his prime outside those years at around .850 minimum… You can basically find these down years for most not steroid user not named Albert Pujols, people just didn’t care because they were still very good and there were no advanced stats

His problem is the same as Ke'Bryan Hayes. They won't try and hit the ball in the air. They hit the ball so hard but just one at bat a game go up there and sell out for a fly ball. Bet they both git 40 taters if they did that.

Which seems like such an easy fix, guys like Chris Taylor and Justin Turner made this fix ten years ago and literallysaved their careers, why aren't these guys that absolutely pummel the ball?

@SmartrBaseball for real. JT has been such a fun AB to watch the last decade, too. And he doesn't hit the ball nearly as hard as Vladdy or KBH. I was hyped when Turner signed last year in Boston his swing is built for Fenway.
