If the story is correct that he he protecting himself he would be charged with firing a gun in city limits and position of an illegal gun, which comes down to 2 + 3 giving him 5 years. If it proven that the gun was his 10years plus 5 for firing it. If you have a license for a gun in NY that only means you can protect your home and target shooting. If you use the gun in any other way it can mean revoke of license for life, jail and civil lawsuit.

+Eraj Darul The thing is that different states have different laws regarding what is or isn't a "reasonable" act of self-defense. Now, to be clear, that Zimmerman case was totally f'd up, not that he should have necessarily been charged with 2nd degree murder (which was prosecution's fault for deciding to use that charge with FL stand-your-ground law). Ultimately when different sides of a story have different versions of it the one thing that someone can know for sure is that neither side's version is the whole truth, it's just a matter of where exactly in-between the the different versions the truth lays. Now, in this case, despite what Lord Jamar said about legally being fucked I don't quite feel that it is necessarily as impossible as that makes it sound. I mean depending on some factors Troy Ave could've been acting within his legal right. NY does have a duty to retreat in their castle doctrine... and here's where it gets legally muddled. Yes, he went after the person to fire at them, but the other person had already shot Troy + 1 other person (a lot here is also dependent on who initiated the physical contact and had either one's conduct was done in a way to provoke the other person to hitting them,) so there wasn't a perceived threat or a believed threat... it was a threat. The altercation began in a green room or something meaning there was most likely no other entry/exit point to the room which allowed for a safe retreat. The guy who was I"m guessing running out of the room after shooting them and losing control of the gun was probably not "effectively communicating withdrawal" from the hostilities (such as saying I"m done or whatever... running is not saying you are done it is simply communicating you are retreating which is done for tactical reasons such as when you lose possession of the weapon you had been using and need to retreat to pull a 2nd gun from somewhere, like an ankle holster or in the side of your sock.) So depending on a few key issues, such has how the altercation exactly began, the layout of the green room, and a few minor other bits of information, Troy seems to be well within the boundaries of having acted reasonably to defend himself. Either way it definitely is not as clear and definitive as Jamar's comment made it seem to be and he definitely has a shot depending on those few key bits of information obviously. Now, firing in the club with other people around I imagine of regardless how the other charges go will result in a charge of some sort, though if they find his actions in general were within the law it will probably be something similar to a reckless endangerment or negligence type of charge. But ultimately a lot of the time you can't compare shit in 1 state to another unless it is about cases over federal charges that just happened in this or that state because otherwise it is about violating the state law which varies between states (on some issues differs quite drastically.)
