Great video! This is such a good overview of many misconceptions. I also feel like you could make whole episodes on some of these points... (ahem, going through #6 right now on the job search 🤪) Yes, so much labor at universities is done by grad students and non-tenure track faculty. I echo your encouragements to be mindful of how we distribute our time and energy - take care of yourself and especially your mental health! 💖

I'm a community college student who dreams of earning a Ph.D. someday, and I was surprised to find out that I (even after doing tons of research on the topic of grad school) harbored many of these misconceptions! Thank you, this video was so helpful!

Wait how does “your project being scooped up by other research teams” happen?

DanDan generally there will be research groups out there doing similar, if not nearly identical, work that you are. So if they publish first then you work is essentially scooped because it’s pointless to see the same results when presented in the same manner
