In this one I try and explain how to use a 4 over 4 gearbox with some live examples on the road.

What a great tutorial on the use of a 4 over 4 gearbox. Importantly you demonstrated the importance of making progress in a road situation. I think your teaching/lecturing skills have and will stand you in good stead. I further suggest that K Transport have trainer/mentor in the making. Perhaps future videos could feature: Roadcraft, drivers hours, more advanced tacho use and safe loading. Almost DCPC stuff. Very enjoyable!

Had forgotten you'd done this video until I did a KZfaq search. I had an assessment in a manual class 2 tanker this week. Dude was like we're going out in a manual. I'm a new pass, so never used one and it's my 1st assessment after passing. He talked me through it, passed my assessment, just need more experience with the gearbox. Glad to say I've got the job an all. Watched your video and it kind of makes sense now I've had a short time (1 hour) using the 4 over 4. Your video will help for when I start with the company, I can relate back to it. I've got someone with me for the 1st few days anyways to give me help and guidance

Mostly the truck alone I'm using the gearbox like you are now. Watching your review counter is a good tool so you run the engine in the desired torque band

The cutting out is a rev limiter It is a system where to stop you revving past a certain point and damaging the engine . Excessive revs will cause whats called valve float where the valves cant open and close fast enough and risk coming into contact with the piston then blowing up the engine . Excellent video by the way . Easily the best example of showing an 8 speeder . Easily cpc quality . Hope to meet you on the roads in and around walsall and the black country as im very local :-)
@UKPrepperman3 жыл бұрын
Although I'm just starting my truck training; you can hear that the engine seemed more happy with the block changing and seemed to pull better. Guessing more effective with the torque and turbo kicking in at lower revs. The cut-out is maybe a torque limiter? Less gear changes would probably mean less wear on the clutch too . Nice smooth driving, Good vid

Very interesting, great photography showing gear change, I've heard of Tall gears, but never Longer ones 🤔. It's my understanding that truck engine's have a narrower rev range, (engine RPM), and the same with the Torque (torque is what does the work to accelerate, power keeps it there) requiring closer gear ratios. Good to see Wolverhampton from the cab 😀 MotoGP is back yippee!!!!!. Stay safe and thanks for sharing. Regards John.

@@TruckDriverHayley yes, great to have some top 2 wheel sport at last. I have heard a motorcycle or car refered to as having long legs, ref where engine RPM is low compared to a high top speed, probably from an athlete having long legs and slow cadence. The opposite is having short legs, and running out of breath or short of breath when an engine does not ref to a high value...confusing or what 😰😰😰😰. With regard to having a gearbox, manual or automatic the low ratios ( 1st, 2nd etc), on a car, truck or any internal combustion engine (ICE), the gearing magnifys, or in increases the torque from the engine ( measured in Newton metres or Lbs Feet), the power (measured in kilowatts or Brake Horse Power (BHP), or PS ( German horse power) is always the same, it never changes. I'll go back to sleep now. Brmm, Brmm. Regards John.

I believe the “loosing power” thing is a rev limiter to prevent the engine over revving. I’ve driven a van that did a similar thing if you didn’t get out of first pretty quickly, from memory I think it was an old shaped Vauxhall Movano.

Its more to do with Horse power of a truck best between 1400rpm to 1800 than a car 5000 plus. HP at a lower speed = more "Torque" (Pulling Power)

Done my first class 2 lesson the other in a 2005 Volvo fl180 4over4 gear box nervous as heck but it went well reverse was grand the gears take a bit of getting used to when stoping and when to flick the switch up and down when going through the gears but after a few lessons it will be easy I think the main thing in a truck is mirrors and watching everything that’s going on around you especially bikes and motorcycles and pedestrians big difference from car van to truck but I have to say it’s brilliant to be able to drive one can’t wait for the next lesson if you have any tips Hayley they will be more than appreciated 👍🇮🇪

Hayley .. you've come a long way in a short time and now 'using them as you need them' ...... next experience will be adding a splitter (probably on your class one artics) doubling the amount of gears ...... You'll do it with practice I'm sure ...... The engine 'cutting off' is it reaching its governed rpm - the same as revving it flat out whilst standing still ...... On the 'overun' (say going down a hill loaded in a lower gear) never let the engine go past its governed rpm .... serious engine damage due to 'overspeed' can occur .... Nice to see you back on the road .... Kind regards.

@alexwild43504 жыл бұрын
Hayley, when skipping gears as you go up or down the gearbox, that's called Block Changing. Applies to cars, lorries and motorcycles. Gearboxs which soon run out, or only last a few metres, are generally called Close Ratio Gearbox. There isn't much difference between one gear and the next. That's why you end up skipping gears cause its not worth the effort of using them all, but it gives the ability to closely match the engines revs to given road conditions. On the A27, can't remember if its the Hangleton Interchange, there is a roundabout onto a steep downhill on ramp to the A27. In a Luton van it can just manage to go 1st straight into 6th skipping the entire box. Only possible with Sir Issac Newton's help. Automatic gearboxes are actually Torque Converters.
@danielg44823 жыл бұрын
"Automatic gearboxes are actually Torque Converters." arent all gearbox's torque converters if you think about it.? :)))
