In a video from last week you talked about regularly using a massage therapist/acupuncturist. Could you do a training talk about therapeutic modalities (heat, ice, stim, ultrasound, massage, acupuncture, etc.) that you use, how to work them into your training?

Thanks for another great video, Sage! When it comes to hilly marathon training, do you suggest focusing workouts based on heart rate or perceived exertion as opposed to time since times will vary greatly on steep uphills and downhills? I'm training for a trail marathon with 7K total elevation gain. My uphill times are way slower than my downhill times, almost double.

I'm thinking of going with the 3 days a week tweaked a little for an extra day, and miles. Just because, I really want to run, especially a marathon, but I don't have a lot of daylight time to train. I have to work with my life. I think it'll work out though.

Hey Sage, do you rest the day after your long runs or do you even have a rest day where you don't run at all? There are some that say that two days rest is a must and others that say you can run 7 days a week doing a couple "recovery runs".

@deankleinhans3239 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the long run philosophy but it is hard to relate 5K long run to marathon or ultra. Seems to me the intent is much different since one is not relying on fat burning as needed component. Perhaps seperate video for 10K and under. But I enjoy the length of discussion. Keep them coming!
@kev606257 жыл бұрын
Everything I've ever read about long run intensity has said they should be done at an easy pace.

An excellent video . Very useful. Can I get an advice? I can run twice a week. I have run marathon 3:38 and half marathon 1:38. I want to improve A marathon time under 3:30 and half marathon time under 1:30. Thank you.
@negativesplits067 жыл бұрын
It's all about consistency and gradual progression. If you're running twice a week, then there is still lots of room for improvement. Trying running 3x per week for a couple weeks and if you feel good, raise to 4 then so on. (But make sure to always have a down week after 3 weeks of regular training to reap better results via recovery).
@michalpetras9847 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your advice. Very helpful.

Bul Kathos I run 3 times a week now. Twice for 15 k and Sunday 21 k and over it depends how I feel. My new PB is 03:29 hour marathon . I have changed a few things gradually and it worked.

Hello mate :) I have a question as it was very hard to find an answer by just googling it. I do manual labour and I'm basically walking for 7 hours in safety boots, so after that if i run 10 miles it takes me very long to recover( and when I think about a 20 mile run and going to work later on, my soul dies and my legs want to run away xD). I managed to do a half marathon(1:40) and I'm planning a full marathon but do you have any tips for faster recovery?
@runningcyclingdad65215 жыл бұрын
Yes, toughen up lol. I'm in boots 10 hours a day and run 50 to 90kms a week. You might have shit boots mate or need insoles. This was 3 years ago, you might have figured it out by now

Hi there. I have been trying to find the right pace for my marathon race. I have managed to build up to 10 miles for my long run so far. What I find is I can maintain my "short" run pace for my "long" run pretty well. But during my short run, even though I try to run faster but i am not picking up any speed. So basically whether it's long run or short run, the average pace is always the same for me. Shall I add more interval or fartlek trainings?
@ironmantooltime7 жыл бұрын
FayeS09 you need to do some speed work. just bring the interval distance down and bring the speed up. increase slowly or you'll tear a muscle
@ironmantooltime7 жыл бұрын
FayeS09 for example rather than a constant pace 5k do 10*0.5k with one 20 seconds below 5k pace per km and one 20 seconds over, or whatever you can manage. you need to increase your top end safely then you'll have a faster easy cruising speed and bursts of speed will feel ok
@ironmantooltime7 жыл бұрын
FayeS09 important for speedwork is to warm up properly and limber up, maybe some leg swings, slow first k etc. :)

I've visited the guy's channel and believe he's being serious haha. TBH I've never heard of anyone doing long runs over 30 miles (unless they're ultra runners like Anton Krupicka who would often do 7 hour long runs). Usually the top marathoners in the USA run around 140-150 MPW with a long run b/w 24-28 miles and that seems to be enough.

Hahahaha awesome! I am an ultra runner and this year I am beginning my training for the Wasatch 100, look it up bro. My best advice for long distance running... Read Born to Run and run barefoot in grass and periodically on cement, that did wonders for my running form and took away my knee pain, but ease into it. And, if you can learn to run with the earth rather than against it, you can run forever! P.S....trail running kicks road runnings butt any day, it's less harsh on the joints, less repetitive movements. Yay!

@rustyhauler64778 жыл бұрын
+lΔ Dynamic stretching, strength training and physio really helps. I could not push past 15km (10 miles) without mechanical failure. Get perfect fit shoes, I use a custom orthodic insert, group benefits paid for that and physiotherapy.

+Rusty Hauler thanks sir, it's now gone when i jog, i didnt really notice that clicking when running, but i do have some spot with that clicking problem especially hip and knee with some kind of movement that require strength.. my recent problem is side stitch and now learning to get rid of it while running

i dont have plain area nearby.... as well as no stadiums... so i must run on a treadmill in a packed AC equiped gym with just a single window open at max... can i still train for marathon???
@jakubcerny11388 жыл бұрын
+tinny sharma I would say you can - I did the same for half marathon (1:35) due to weather, and hit my pace without having a GPS or accurate splits. The only road workout were my long runs 1x week. To be sure to simulate the effort I used a 1% incline.
