In this vocal analysis video, Dr Dan reviews a live performance by the renowned singer Dimash, focusing on the piece "Sinful Passion." Dr Dan highlights Dimash's impressive vocal control, particularly his transition between different register points and his ability to achieve clarity in tone through various techniques. He appreciates the way Dimash utilises breath management, cleans his tone, and constantly moves through tonal features, including his usage of vocal folds for onset.
An interesting aspect Dr Dan notes is the level of reverb on Dimash's vocal and how it is an extreme yet captivating feature of his live performances. Dr Dan also acknowledges his admiration for Dimash's lower register and the mastery of his skilful movement across his entire vocal range, but he refrains from labelling him or any other singer as the greatest, respecting the uniqueness of every artist.

⚠️ As a singing voice specialist, I fully acknowledge that each live performance is a snapshot in time and does not encapsulate the entire spectrum of an artist's work, nor can it predict their future evolution. I understand that a myriad of factors, both positive and negative, can influence the delivery of a live performance. I strive to appreciate and critique each live rendition for its own merits, independent of the artist's past or potential future performances. Recognising the ebb and flow of live music, I value its spontaneity, novelty, and individuality and strive to give it the thoughtful consideration it deserves.

Hi Dr. Dan, I really appreciate your honest and specific analysis of Dimash's singing. It's boring and in my opinion rather insincere when all a KZfaqr says is, "Oh my gosh, he's incredible!" and that's all they say. That teaches me nothing. Personally, I want to hear a technical analysis so I can learn too. This is the first video of yours that I've watched but your are right, there have been times when Dimash has sounded strained, once he was very sick and had to sing. Like you've said in your intro, each performance is a snapshot. I thought you'd be interested to know that Dimash's version of "Sinful Passion" was originally composed by Baigali Serkebayev (who is at keyboard) and performed in 1998 by a Kazakhstani band, A-Studio. To honor the song and band, Dimash, asked the band to play the song on the stage with Dimash in this video. The tribal/ethnic riff (?) section that Dimash sang was sung as a tribute and to pay respect to Batyr Shukenov, who died in 2015. With this said, you're absolutely right, some of the band's nonchalance is a bit odd given that Dimash was honoring them by asking them to play at this large venue. Maybe they were just trying to play it cool ... a little too cool 😉. One thing that's important for us to remember is that even at this young age, a couple of the staff that help the professional singers on the Chinese show compose a chosen song in the best key for that singer stated that Dimash's compositional understanding of music was quite remarkable and advanced for his age. Dimash has a Master's degree is in musical composition. I look forward to more of your vocal analysis of Dimash's performances. Thanks!

Hello, and thank you for your thoughtful and informative comment. I'm delighted to hear that you appreciate the technical analysis. It's important for me to offer insights that not only appreciate the artistry but also educate the audience on the finer points of vocal technique. Thank you for sharing the background information on Dimash's rendition of "Sinful Passion." Knowing the story behind the song and performance certainly adds depth to the overall experience. It's fascinating that Dimash chose to honor both Baigali Serkebayev and Batyr Shukenov in this rendition; that adds an emotional layer that I wasn't aware of. I couldn't agree more with your point about Dimash's advanced understanding of musical composition. It's a unique advantage he has, which likely informs his performances in subtle but impactful ways. This kind of understanding often allows for a more nuanced approach to vocal delivery and interpretation, perhaps even affecting how he manages breath in challenging passages-always an interesting facet to consider in the broader scope of vocal technique and breath management. Your note on the band's nonchalance is well-taken. Artists have different ways of engaging with the music and the moment, and what might come off as "too cool" could very well be their way of maintaining a certain stage presence. Thank you once again for your comment. I'm looking forward to delving into more of Dimash's performances and providing the sort of analysis you find valuable. Cheers!

This is the New Wave festival in Sochi, Russia. It's Igor Krutoy's event, and he's the one who invited Dimash to perform. The event did a tribute to the wildly popular regional band, A'Studio. If you've watched many events in Russia, the audience and the musicians are very stoic. It's an understandable cultural difference. The man in the audience who was the first to stand is the famous composer, Igor Krutoy. This was the first time he heard Dimash sing live. Immediately afterward, he came out of retirement to begin composing especially for Dimash's voice. Dimash and his sound producer arranged the vocals for this performance. The ethnic section is from the Yakuta tribe of Siberia, really illustrating the wide extent of Dimash's musical knowledge. There are +/- 150 professional vocal coaches who have done technical analysis of Dimash's vocals. In the 7 years I've been watching them, I've learned something from almost all. If you're mostly interested in technical analyses, search on the parameters Dimash vocal coach analysis. Except for the fake vocal coaches, I've never heard one say "He's incredible!" and that's all, though Dimash is a favorite singer of many of them.

You are so right- singing is an art!! But why Dimash is the best ever in the eyes of so many? Some characteristics can lead to that kind of an opinion. Beautiful strong stable voice in the every one of his extremely wide range, pitched perfect, possession of a lot vocal techniques collected around the world, various genres, his dynamic, clarity and unpredictable artistic interpretations and so so on….. and how joyful are the vocal trips in the lot of fan cams of his rehearsals, he is always under fan cams (he does not like it, but he is…). By my impression if anybody will spend some his own time to get familiar about Dimash - it will be a great joyful experience and a life would be better ! ❤❤❤

Dimash once said "I am not money, to be liked by everyone" He knows exactly what other people say about him, he's heard it all and he doesn't care, he's got a very self deprecating humour and often pokes fun at himself, fortunately for us, his millions of Dears, we love an artist who takes risks, who experiments with music and sounds, mixing genres and techniques until he finds something that's pleasing to his ear. If you go into Dimash's music with a closed mind then you won't enjoy what he does, in the west we are taught that artists pick a genre and stay in it. Record companies make them do what is popular and what will sell. Luckily for us Dimash remains independent so we can carry on watching him grow and evolve and change. He's still only 29 and his voice hasn't even reached it's full maturity yet which considering how he sounds right now is almost scary to think of.

Dimash is indeed a fascinating artist, both in terms of his vocal prowess and his approach to his career. His self-awareness and willingness to experiment musically is refreshing in an industry that often tries to pigeonhole artists into specific genres. The quote "I am not money, to be liked by everyone" speaks volumes about his understanding that he can't please everyone-and that's not his objective. His aim is to evolve, to challenge himself, and to offer something genuinely unique to his listeners. Being independent gives him the freedom to move fluidly between genres and techniques, which is a rarity in the Western music industry, as you rightly pointed out. Often, record labels dictate the trajectory of an artist's career based on market trends, but independence allows Dimash to remain authentic to his own vision. The notion that he is still so young and yet to reach his vocal peak is tantalising. Given that his voice is already so impressive, the idea that it might not have fully matured is a thrilling prospect for fans and music analysts alike. Thank you for your insights; they provide a valuable perspective on an artist who continues to push the boundaries of what is musically possible.

@@DrDanRobinson I would recommend listening to one of his most recent performances in China "Join Hands" with a Chinese artist called Wei Wei, written by Nathan Wang, a composer of many movie soundtracks, it's not the most impressive piece he's ever done, it has a very Disney feel to it, but it's a perfect example of how Dimash's voice is progressing. There's a richness and fullness to his Baritone that wasn't there in the early days, he weaves his voice skillfully around the voice of the other (female) singer until in the middle you can't tell one voice from the other carrying on up until he reaches the soprano but still bringing in those R&B riffs and runs and finishing with that amazing stacatto that he demonstrated back in the days of the Singer contest. It's also well worth looking at his Kazakh songs like Samaltau and Qairan Elim where he stays within that mid range but you feel that connection to his homeland and exactly what it means to him.

@@DrDanRobinson there's also a 12 part series called The Ultimate Dimash Guide which explains a lot about his musical education and direction, his reasons for independence. It's on the Lilasi channel but I can send you a link if you're interested in finding out more about the man behind the music. He's an extremely deep thinker which partly explains why he's invited to take part in so many forums both related and unrelated to the music business.

What I appreciate most about Dimash is the fact that he chooses different singing techniques, combines them in one song, changes them to emphasize emotions, and is not afraid of "what people will say". And many people without panache, courage or skills may consider such a performance to be a mistake. Fortunately, music is also art, above all art, and there is freedom here. With skills like Dimash, everyone would try different ways of expression. And that's cool. Having different skills distinguishes all artists from each other and allows for the development of each field of art. However, what you like and what you don't like is only a matter of taste, sometimes an open mind, sometimes courage. And most importantly, it depends on whether the recipient has the ability to feel.

I completely agree with your perspective on Dimash's artistry. His ability to seamlessly blend various singing techniques within a single performance is truly commendable. This versatility not only showcases his skills but also enhances the emotional depth of his songs. You're absolutely right that music is an art form that thrives on freedom and experimentation. An artist like Dimash, who's willing to take risks, adds to the overall richness and progression of the art form. It's all a matter of personal taste and openness to different styles, as you've pointed out. Thank you for sharing your thoughtful insights.

There is an intimacy and depth....and warmth and sincerity that comes from the soul of the man. That cannot be taught. Imitators may hit the notes....but they do not connect as profoundly as Dimash. Presence and his natural movements....so many factors that are unique only to Dimash cannot be duplicated. Any technical analysis only misses the whole point of what it means to be a great singer. Dimash is about the experience as a whole. He wants to take listeners on a journey with him. A lot of the demeanor of the band mates is due to respect and awe. The audiences being Russian and Eastern European do not outwardly show emotional response as the party animals of the west. But they shower him in flowers. Thanks for your reaction and review. Some interesting points.

For those who like information about Dimas' songs: Sinful Passion - The story behind this song is very interesting: The band that accompanies Dimash is the same one that composed the song, without the singer who died after a heart attack! The band is also from Kazakhstan and this performance by Dimash revitalized the song. Moreover, in the final part he added, with an oriental technique (from the Kazakhstan region). The song was originally performed in 1998 and the band name is A'Studio (Kazakh pop music group based in Russia, "Alma-Ata Studio", Almaty city). The dead singer (who Dimash was a fan of) left the band in 2000 and passed away in 2015 and his name was Batyrkhan Shukenov. The lyrics are by the poetess Ilia Reznik together with Baigaly Serkebayev, who is the long-haired keyboardist, who we see in the video that accompanies Dimash. Hugs from Brazil! TYSM for sharing Dimash on your channel! There is no official recording of this SP cover by Dimash that we know of, but he has performed it during several live concerts earlier in his career, each version different from the previous which logically, should silence the awful people who deny his talent and hard work. I fail to understand why some ppl even engage in disrespecting an artist (any artist) who loves to sing with what God-given talent and hard work have given him. This performance was his first New Wave event as a guest artist back when Dimash was only 22 or 23 invited by the Russian composer Igor Krutoy. Dimash is in charge only of his recordings and concerts, not other organizations like this one, or tv shows, where he has no say over post-production. His ability to combine a range of styles and traditions in music is unparalleled, never mind the vocal range, tonal quality and the clever application of techniques that make his music not only intellectually and emotionally stimulating but addictive! For these reasons, I agree with fellow dears that he is the most innovative and accomplished singer of our time. You should watch his live performance of The Story of One Sky if you haven't already. Thanks again for the reaction!

Thank you for letting me know about A Studio, the original band behind "Sinful Passion." It's intriguing to hear that they accompanied Dimash on his cover of the song, especially given that they were part of the song's inception. The fact that the original band members were present adds another layer of depth and continuity to the performance. It must have been a touching moment for them, especially considering the original singer has passed on. It's a true testament to an artist's skill and interpretation when they can take an existing piece and make it uniquely their own, as Dimash has done. Thank you again for sharing this background information; it definitely enhances the appreciation of his performance.

Those of us who think he is the best singer of all time are extremely biased because nobody else who sings can affect us like he does. And he does it from soul to soul, from body to body and from mind to mind, affecting us in sight, sound and feelings that promote reactions that we do not want to control. I personally have never come across this phenomenon before, even with the pop artists that I listened to endlessly when I was young and first being taught to understand what I liked through experience. His idiosynchracies quickly become ingrained and loved and looked for. To us, his talents, abilities, focus and drive are way out of the ordinary, and I put that down to both very hard work in musical education and practice, and the destiny that is unfolding and that placed him to be educated as he has been. It all makes up to a wonderful experience for we, the listeners and viewers, his Dears.

With this song, you just wet your fingertips in the ocean under the name Dimash ... React further to it and millions of Dimash fans will simply blow up your channel with hundreds of thousands of views and subscriptions. Dimash sings from classical to rap, he is full of surprises, have a good swim in this vast ocean of pleasures. Do you remember the Diva song from The Fifth Element, a movie with Bruce Willis? In this film, the song of the alien Diva was made half with the voice of an opera singer, and half synthesized on a computer to show an alien voice so that human capabilities could not cover the range and jumps of this song, and so: Dimash sang it calmly, which proves that Dimash is an alien. When I heard Dimash sing, I thought that he was not human. When I heard what he said in an interview, I realized that Dimash is more of a human than all of us.

The reason we tend to call his higher notes in most of his music his falsetto or head mix is because he does have an actual whistle tone register that we have heard in other songs. Most notably the Gakku performance of Unforgettable Day. He truly hits a D8 in his whistle tone.

@DrDanRobinson Indeed! But I especially love the numerous times he has sung his G7. Every time I have heard it it sounds like a chime. Amazing. Also, many have said how much they love his maturing rich and gorgeous lower register. I am one of them who gets the youthful thrill of a young girl who gets her first phone call from a boy who now sounds like a man!! You probably can't really relate lol, but that is exactly how it makes me feel. Pretty thrilling!😍

I have never seen another singer so micro inspected and analyised as Dimash. Are people really so threatened by him? That just goes to show his greatness even more. That they must search for the tiniest sign of flaw. Its very telling about the egos out there. What is the purpose other than to try to knock him down. What are you going to learn as a singer? Any voice teacher can help you train your voice. This hyper inspection of every tittle and dotted i of his performances is ridiculous....bordering on the psychotic. Maybe others possess a fine top of the line instrument too and resent that Dimash is so loved. Well, just because you own a Steinway doesnt mean you are a master at playing it. Dimash has qualities inside and out the realm of vocaldom that contribute to his being able to connect so deeply with people. He is special...a77nd regardless of any flaw., hiccup or perceived technical tweaking ....he is still light years beyond your average great singer. . You cant explain magic. Its ok. Just enjoy him. I, for one, am grateful that such an amazing force of beauty and light exists in our world today.

Your admiration for Dimash and his vocal abilities is palpable, and you make several compelling points. Indeed, Dimash is an extraordinary talent who has captivated audiences worldwide with his incredible vocal range, versatility, and emotional expression. The level of scrutiny he faces is arguably a testament to his skill and the high standards to which he is held, rather than a genuine critique of his ability. Artists of Dimash's calibre often become the subjects of intense analysis because they raise the bar for what's considered possible in their domain. However, as you've pointed out, there's a difference between constructive analysis aimed at understanding an artist's technique and scrutiny that seems intended to find fault for fault's sake. Voice training can, of course, be done with any qualified instructor, but when someone like Dimash comes along, he essentially becomes a case study in vocal excellence. This is perhaps where the fascination lies in dissecting every nuance of his performances. For budding singers, this can offer some educational insights, even though these analyses are sometimes done to an excessive degree. It's true that having a great "instrument" isn't enough; it's how you use it. Dimash's greatness isn't just in his vocal folds or his breath management. It's in how he connects with the audience, conveying emotions that transcend language and culture. As you aptly put it, some things are simply magical and defy explanation. Your perspective is a refreshing reminder to appreciate art and artists for the joy they bring into our lives, rather than getting lost in an endless loop of hyper-criticism. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I very much appreciate your knowledgable and detailed technical analysis while at the same time appreciating Dimash's artistry and use of personal choice sound enhancements, which I love. And I commented that your concern for the health of DQs voice in your review was something that I too, as a singer myself, shared....and worried about. Especially on a voice like his. His voice has as I also mentioned, improved a lot returning, thank goodness - sigh of relief, back to it's flawlessness in his last 3 or so concerts.....very clear from top to bottom, very glassy, nothing that makes me tense up with concern as some of his performances did a while back....like the ones you were reviewing.

Thank you for your kind words and thoughtful insights. I'm glad to hear you've found value in the technical analysis I provide. Analyzing vocal technique while acknowledging an artist's individual choices is something I strive for in each review. I share your relief to hear that Dimash's voice has returned to its characteristic flawlessness in recent performances. A voice like his is not just a gift but a finely tuned instrument that needs ongoing care and attention. Especially in someone as exceptionally talented as Dimash, vocal health is paramount. Any strain or tension in earlier performances might have been cause for concern, and I'm sure as a fellow singer, you understand how critical breath management can be in maintaining that balance between pushing one's limits and preserving the vocal folds. Hearing that his recent concerts have been up to his usual extraordinary standard brings a sense of joy and relief. Here's to hoping for many more remarkable performances from him. Your input as a singer adds a valuable perspective, and I'm grateful you took the time to share your observations. Thank you again, and I look forward to continuing the conversation around Dimash's artistry and vocal technique. Cheers!

I believe I read somewhere that the bassist said the band was shocked with what Dimash had done with their song. Also, in case, you didn’t know, the gentleman in the white shirt, giving the standing ovation at the end of the performance is Igor Krutoy. At the time he was a retired Russian composer, but decided to come out of retirement after this particular performance in order to work with Dimash. Clever, more like god tier. Dude trained since 4 and sings in 13 languages. Counter tenor/bass range. He sang a G#7 I think. Look at the mic technique he’s being care to hold it farther away due to the frequency of the heightened notes that were just used for a baritone. He’s sings in different cultural styles, he’s not just classically trained.

I think the difference in sound quality for the vocalisation just prior to the Caprino section, may be the sound engineer trying to equalise the volume, because Dimash’s voice can BELT so loudly, I’ve heard it bounce off the back walls of a large auditorium, and have heard him singing backstage without mic, he is LOUD! His ability to project his voice is incredible!
@DrDanRobinson
@DrDanRobinson 8 ай бұрын
You make a good point about Dimash's powerful vocal projection. In a live setting, the sound engineer typically uses various tools like compressors and limiters to balance out the volume levels. Such tools would automatically adjust the loudness without requiring the engineer to manually intervene, ensuring a more consistent audio experience for the audience. So the change in sound quality that you noticed could very well be a technical aspect rather than something attributable to Dimash's vocal performance. Thank you for sharing your observations; they add another layer to the discussion.

Well managed vibrato is something I look for, and the best singers to my taste all have it in it’s most pleasant variations. The Bee Gees are exceptional, and Peter Phelps, and all the singers associated with the Gaithers, Steve Greene, Roy Orbison, Shirley Bassey, Barbara Streisand……oh, so many….! I think I heard it said that vibrato development is a big part of operatic training. And then add breath development, projection from stages, volume, and the extremes of range enabling him to sing every part, and the variety of tones, techniques, and the emotional story, and now…much experience, and I’d say that in a broad sense, he has outstripped everyone since Adam and Eve, and he will add to the knowledge of singing and performing well into the future as the Baroch composers did. And yes, I am extremely biased and in love with everything that he does and is.

These are very laid back jazz musicians. Have you ever seen an electric bass player that looks to be on a different planet than the rest of the band but is still perfectly in sync musically? The whole band is like that. Except maybe the percussionist, who is really fun to watch. They have been playing together for about 20 years, so they barely have to see each other to stay on track.

The Russian performances are very wet. Live concerts are not. I saw him perform in a small theatre in LA with the driest sound system ever. It's here on KZfaq. He dropped in last minute to a Kazakhstan cultural event. It was set up for a visiting Kazahk orchestra (overhead mics, side speakers), and speeches - not fo a singer. I was front row center - and so I got to hear his voice in a completely raw form. Stunning. Gorgeous. And honestly in that space his sound was so big he really didn;t need a mic

Since you enjoy his lower register, as to many of us, may I suggest you react to a live performance of Ti Amo Cosi. A trio with Dimash, Lara Fabian and lyrical soprano Aida Garifulina. I am a bit disappointed that you don't do your reactions/analysts cold since it seems you review the music first. The intrigue of watching reactions is to experience someone's response when hearing a song or performance for the first time.

I've always thought that when he reaches the part that you refer to as flattening out is another intentional tonal shift and his cognizance of not blowing the sound system out and/or not having the vocal sound distorted.

I understand where you're coming from regarding the allure of "first-time" reactions; they certainly offer a unique and authentic experience. However, pre-reviewing the performances allows for a more in-depth analysis, as it gives me time to dissect the various elements involved, such as the vocal technique and musicianship of the artists. As for your suggestion to react to "Ti Amo Cosi" with Dimash, Lara Fabian, and Aida Garifulina, that sounds like a truly captivating performance. The combination of such distinct and skilled vocalists would likely provide ample material to delve into, from their vocal folds' mechanics to perhaps even some elements of breath management. Thank you for your recommendation; it sounds like something that would be quite interesting to explore further.

🎼👏💖 Thanks for reacting to Dimash. I enjoyed your expert analysis. You mentioned a couple things I wanted to comment on. ---- First, the audio shifts. Up to just before the first audio shift you mentioned, Dimash is holding the mic about an inch or less from his mouth, directly in front of it, as he sings. Then, at the point you first said the audio had shifted, he had just dropped the mic to much further away (6 inches?), and also positioned it an inch or two out of direct line with his out breath. Then he visibly keeps it there as he vocalizes for the next 30 seconds or so. At the point you mention a second audio shift, the mic had been hidden from view for a few seconds, but it looks to me like he had moved it close again immediately prior. And when, a few seconds later, we get to see the gap between the mic and his mouth, it's clear it indeed _is_ close again. So my guess is that it's the mic placement that accounts for the audio shift you say you heard. (Of course, if he's lip syncing, perhaps he moves the mic to match the audio, but there are few reasons to think that, and plenty to conclude it's just live singing, and mic technique.) ---- You also mentioned his range. It can be interesting to analyze how we can extend our range, and maintain healthy, high quality vocal performance outside our naturally comfortable range. As relevant subject matter to analyze goes, Dimash performances seem like a great opportunity to me, so your exploration of those kinds of issues is welcome. Yet, then I searched for your Dimash reactions, I only found this one and two prior SOS reactions. While both these songs have low and high parts, neither include his lowest or highest notes, nor the classic techniques he's used to extend his range and quality over the years. So I thought I'd suggest a few songs of his that *do* go to extremes, with varying degrees of success as he tries to push the envelope. (I'm confident you'll get en masse visits if you react to any of the songs I suggest, because they're all Dear favorites, but to be clear my intent is to help you help us enjoy singing ourselves as much and as well as we can.) For a great example of straight out singing in lower register, I suggest Olimpico (Italian) or perhaps El Amor En Ti (Spanish). For frying, there's Stranger (English) or Love is like a dream (Russian). For growling and auming, there's The Story of One Sky (English). At the _high_ end I think it would be interesting to hear your analysis of his Gakku performance of Unforgettable Day. I'm confident you'll find the whole song and performance interesting to analyze, but, in particular, when he tried to hit two of his highest ever notes live, the "preamble" vocalization produced no sound at all for a few seconds (ironically he was wildly waving the microphone to prove he was singing live as he did that!), and then his final high whistle note vocalization _missed_ his intended target, hitting D8 instead. I'd enjoy hearing what you have to say about his attempt, and its musicality. Just make sure any dogs around you are out of earshot! ---- Peace and love to you and your fellow aussies from the UK. 💖

I'm glad you enjoyed my analysis of Dimash's performances! Your observations about the microphone placement are insightful. It's entirely possible that the shifts in audio could be attributed to his mic technique rather than post-production manipulation. Given Dimash's calibre as a vocalist, it's more than plausible that what we're hearing is live singing enhanced by mic technique. Regarding extending vocal range and maintaining a healthy voice, Dimash is indeed a fascinating subject. Your song recommendations are highly valuable for exploring different aspects of his technique and range, including different vocal textures like fry and growl, as well as his attempts at hitting extreme notes. I find the Gakku performance of "Unforgettable Day" especially intriguing, particularly the moment you mentioned where he attempts those high whistle notes. Situations like this often involve a combination of factors such as vocal fold coordination, mental preparation, and breath management. Your suggestion of looking at these specific songs could certainly help in gaining a more comprehensive understanding of what makes Dimash an exceptional singer, while also offering practical insights for singers who aim to expand their own abilities. Thank you for the well wishes, and sending peace and love back to you in the UK! 💖

What you and many others have likened to disconnection from the performance by the musicians don't seem to be taking into account that this song is an original by this band, A Studio, albeit their original version was in a different style genre. Not only is it their song but of course they've heard him perform this in rehearsals so it's not as if they're surprised or caught off guard. Also, I'm curious, if what you are assuming is vocal fatigue or tonal fall off, might actually be a conscious choice to convey a feeling or mood that he feels is necessary to evoke the emotion of the song. Given the fact that he has complete control over his vocals and breath would indicate to me that those are intentional artistic choices.

The way I found to celebrate the majesty of Dimash's talent was to have written the following about him: If I were to rule the world, I would immediately add, to the universal declaration of human rights, another article (they would become 31) whose wording would next "All human beings have the right, at least once in their lives, to hear Dimash sing". I am a Professor and I believe that I have a special profession that allows me to transform the human heart and consequently the human society. I work with young people and young people need to have good references. I had been looking for someone for a long time, of whom I could speak to the young people I work with, as a good reference. That person should be young, a super talent, a super mega star in the art world and above all, because he is the most important, a good human person. I searched and never found anyone with these characteristics. Until, finally, I found this person and that person is Dimash. I had the opportunity to say this to Dimash, personally, when I was with him in Latvia where I went, coming from Portugal (there are 8000 km round trip), on the 7th of March 2020. I believe nothing happens on that stage that Dimash as not created and agreed before hand. He is now working on his Doctorate, still trains 2 - 3 hours per day. The three band members on the stage with him, are NOT his band members. Dimash band is behind the screen, you see them on occasion. The band members on screen lost their singer, he sadly passed away. This song was NOT written for Dimash or his voice and he has clearly jazzed it up to include his own abilities and given a nod to people who mattered to him. He has had a few personal loses himself. Dimash does not sing as others do as he has access to a near on piano full of notes to choose from. If you listen to more Dimash you will find the music of band will fade out as Dimash voice does something spectacular. He often starts with a breathy start with multiple different vibratoes and his voice seems to float on top of the air. Very hard to do. He is consistently very good, but it didn't just come to him over night. He has been training all his life from the ages of 4. He sings in all genre, pop, Opera, rap etc. He didn't want to be tied down to one kind of music no matter how good and successful he was in it. He is only 29 and I have not seen or heard a vocal coach yet say, within all the skill sets he has....there are only a few who can reach his range, but don't have the versatility to do what he does. I hope you enjoy more of Dimash.

Эта песня родилась в этой музыкальной группе, которая называется "A'Studio". Они земляки Димаша, но сейчас - известнейшие российские музыканты.

I love his lower register too, Ogni Pietra (Olimpico) and Stranger are other songs he gives the lower range a good workout in

Dr. Dan, it's entertaining to hear all the shades that you had to throw at Dimash in this video. I heard some people not liking Dimash before, and that's totally normal. It's also absolutely normal to not consider him the best. To me, he is best in some aspects but others are/were best in other aspects. But being sneaky at this level is quite rare.

I agree-I wish people wouldn’t insist on “the best in the world” stuff. He is definitely the best singer I’ve heard in terms of natural talent, skill and technique, but that isn’t the whole of what makes singing work. Freddie Mercury had marked imperfections in his singing-he was not a very trained singer. But nobody could sing what he sang the way he did, and it was the rawness of his voice, in part, that made his singing work so beautifully in the songs he sang. For what FREDDIE did, FREDDIE was the best singer in the world. It’s not fair to compare because Dimash doesn’t even try to do the same songs the same way. The guy you see at the end starting the standing O is Russian composer Igor Krutoy, who came out of retirement to work with Dimash after this. Their collaborations have given us songs like Ave Maria, Stranger, and Ogni Pietra. Krutoy seems to love to write for Dimash’s range and particular talents.

Hi! I would like to see your analyse about Gabriel Henrique. He has a stunning voice, high notes, can do wistle and has a huge control of the voice. Thanks for your work I love to see your comments.

12:18 My best guess about why the sound changes, is maybe because he's not singing words, they sound engineers at the board are going for a more ethereal sound that just hovers in the background rather than the forward placement of his lyrical sections...maybe?

@ Dr. Dan….. anything Dimash does with his voice is completely intentional. In over 6 years of listening to him, I have only heard 1 note that I think Dimash didn’t mean to sound that way and he was sick as a dog in that performance.
