Ronans about a boy named Ronan Thompson, he was a 3 and a half year old boy who died to cancer, Taylor saw his moms blog post about ronans life and was moved by it so Taylor wrote ronan. Ronans mom is credited as a co-writer on the song.

Taylor wrote Ronan for Ronan's mother, Maya Thompson, who wrote a blog about Ronan's cancer battle. Taylor used a lot of things Maya wrote on the blog in the lyrics and gave her writing credits on the song. If I am correct, Taylor only performed this song two times, once at a fundraiser for cancer research or something like that and once at a concert where Maya was in attendance.

Watching Taylor perform Ronan is *tough* - well even listening to the song is tough. But when Taylor performs it and is choking up and can barely sing it…omg it’s so hard to get through it. I absolutely love the song but I mostly skip it unless I’m in a crying mood; I’ve never listened to it and not been sobbing.

Nothing New is so interesting. She wrote it over a decade ago, and it has become clear that she has felt like that a lot over the years. In her documentary, she said that she thought "Lover" was gonna be one of her last opportunities to do something that big. Yet, she HAS found her people. She has built such a huge and loyal fan base, so it doesn't really seem to matter that much that the general public gets tired of her every now and then. She isn't "new" anymore, she hasn't been "new" for a loooong time. But she finds new ways to keep her career all the time. Imagine the worried 22-year old Taylor finding out that she's bigger than ever before at the age of 34❤

Ronan's mom posts a lot about her story, and her relationship with Taylor, it's the sweetest thing. She named her daughter Poppy at Taylor's suggestion, and I believe I read somewhere that Taylor is Poppy's godmother. The relationship between Taylor and Maya is part of what makes Taylor my favorite artist.

Yes, Taylor grew up on a christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania at a younger age. Taylors version of Babe is surperior to me in every way, Because it has way more emotion, and of course, it is because Taylor wrote it. Sugarland has a great voice but Taylors version of her songs always beat other artists renditions.

What people don't realize is that Taylor has often written songs that most take as about a boy, but they aren't: nothing new, my tears ricochet, bigger than the whole sky, evermore, closure, this is me trying, and more. She conceals the meaning or gives them double meanings for the discerning listener.

With Ronan you mentioned that you don’t know how Taylor can sing this song without breaking down. She has only performed this song about three or four times total. She originally sang this song for the stand up to cancer benefit. She has performed it on the 1989 tour in Ronan’s hometown and his family attended and for the re-recording of Red. I’m not sure if there’s another time but that is what I can count. She has very rarely performed this song.

audrey i have to correct one thing for you: jake didn't skip out on her 22nd birthday, he didn't show to her 21st. that's what all too well and the moment i knew are referencing, and 22 is her celebrating her birthday like she wanted to her 21st but didnt get to because he ruined it for her.

Ronan was a kid with cancer. Taylor found his mom’s blog and got in touch. And when he died, she dedicated a song to him, written from the perspective of the mom and inspired by the blog and she is also credited as co-writer. Technically, she grew up in a farm. They had a Christmas Tree farm when she was a kid. Her job was to make sure that the trees don’t have critters in them.

I think that "The Moment I Knew" goes really well with "All Too Well". Especially the 10 min version because in that song there's a part about her turning 21 and she having a birthday party and she's just watching the door hoping that he comes and never does. That was the moment she knew that the relationship isn't going to last any longer. She knew they were at the end. It was the moment that put her over the edge to finally say that this relationship shouldn't exist anymore. Both of these songs are about Jake. This was during her 21st birthday which is supposed to be a big birthday but ended up being a let down because of him.

She released these vaults just after her folklore/evermore era, so that might be why the vaults don't have big production. 1989 TV was near Midnights, so the 1989 vaults are midnights-esque as well, so I think which new album the older ones are rereleased with affects the style of the vaults.

Even the opening notes of Ronan make me start sobbing. I stopped listening to that song 8 years ago, pregnant with my first kid, and have only barely listened to it since. I just can't. I'm so thankful for every day with my little blue-eyed baby. I've had him twice as long as Maya got and my heart aches for her.

There’s a great conversation Taylor has with Aaron during the writing / making of The Man about the theme of Nothing New - that constant reinvention most female artists need to do. There’s a few songs that I reckon Taylor should do rock versions of - maybe that could be part of a vault version of a rock album.

That’s why the song 22 is so important; it marks the end of a year stained by heartbreak. It’s poppy and upbeat because she’s committing to leave the sadness of being 21 in the past

I really think it comes down to personal taste. While you would have liked more produced, harder hitting songs, I really enjoy the softer, simpler pieces where the voice is front and center. Yes, I like the sad songs...LOL.

I always avoiding Ronan song because I heard that song twice, and I cried two times. I just know that I could never not cried while listen to Ronan 😭 the thing is... I never know the lyrics video in KZfaq. And when I saw the starter I was like... "I never know this song. Who is this about?". But then I remember the Ronan song, and then I cried immidietly. I bet you think about me is, like most on this album, about Jake gyllenhall who really screwed her over. But the “she wrote a song about me” is most likely talking about We are never ever getting back together. She made that song as poppy as possible so he couldn’t go anywhere without hearing it bc he used to diss her more poppy music

Forever Winter is apparently about her brother who the media weren't to nice to following Taylor sucess with Fearless and Speak Now. The opening verse of Nothing New always to me felt like a nod to how the media and world in general treated Britney Spears and how it got so much worse after her and Justin broke up and the world for obvious sexist reasons took his side. After that she truly never had a day of peace

10:00 it’s funny you mentioned that because the original, non Taylor’s version is basically an acoustic guitar track with zero production on it lol we all listened to Taylor’s version and yeah, not that I don’t like it, it just sounds like they took the original and put it in a blender on the chunky setting
