I’m guessing some of these kids actually never had any vocal lessons, they just figure out all their own, about the transitions, modifications, alterations, they figured it out all on their own. You know what I mean? The feeling when you just sing and making sure you don’t mess up and when you think “oh know I don’t think I can reach the high notes” and they decide to alter it. And when they think “I can reach it” and just go for the win. I love that

I am painfully shy about my voice even though I've been told several times that I have a good voice, but I don't think I do. I love to sing, but not when anyone can hear me. If I know someone is listening, I instantly start sounding like a choking toad. I have been caught singing so many times and almost died from embarrassment. Two instances stand out the most though, 1-I was at church camp and one night only a few of us were showering in our cabin, the rest went to the poolhouse since there were more showers there. We were basically in a big building divided into 6 rooms that each had their own bathroom, three rooms on each side of the building that were separated by a big empty space. Well, I was BELTING OUT whatever came to mind (burning ring of fire was on the list) while I was in the shower, taking as long as possible to dry off and everything because the acoustics were just amazing, but I totally forgot I was not the only one around. Not only had everyone gotten back looong before I was done, they were crowded around the bathroom door, all 14 of them, waiting for me to come out. The second I opened the door they all started clapping and cheering and scared me so bad I screamed and just about fainted. The next morning as we were going to breakfast, the two cabins that bordered ours were waiting for us to come out, wanting to know who was singing last night along with several girls from cabins on the other side of the building that had been on there way back and stopped to listen. I wanted to disappear I was so embarrassed! The second time was just a couple months ago. I was visiting my grandfather and he lives within walking distance of a neighborhood poolhouse. I liked to go in the evening so I could have its lovely acoustics all to myself. But I got carried away and got caught singing by the security guard who'd come to lock up the pool. I literally ran past him all the way home, beet red. I also liked to shower there (unlimited hot water) and didn't realize that some elderly ladies had come to use the pool while I was in there, and as I walked out they thanked me for the concert. I turned beet red and ran away. They must have told everyone else in the neighborhood because it became everybody's mission to catch me and they ALL knew about me. Some people are just painfully shy about their voice.

as a younger singer i was drawn to intense reverb places (like bathrooms and alleys) because they were just so loud and any singer knows reverb makes you sound better lol
