Thank you for doing this reaction of Angelina Jordan. She is just an amazing young singer and she did a very beautiful version of this song. She has about 120 cover songs and she also have three original songs that she wrote herself. She first appeared on Norway got talent at the age of 7 years old singing « Gloomy sunday» by billie holiday.

Gracias.

Hello Gladys and Sax, I'm back again and am delighted at the English subtitles. Angelina doesn't normally put so many "extras" (don't really know the word I'm looking for) into her performance but she had only 2minutes to show the judges what she was capable of doing with her voice, It is her normal practice to put into the performance only what she feels necessary to sing the song how she feels it should be sung to reflect the emotions within the lyrics and melody. You cut the video short, so I do not know whether you are aware she got the Golden Buzzer from Heidi Klum and goes straight through to the Final. Simon Cowell remarked he had never heard this version before, and he was right because Angelina rewrote it for the performance. She took the words of the lyrics she wished to use and then rearranged them, and then rearranged the music, until she was sure that both truly reflected what she wanted to achieve in her performance. I found it hauntingly beautiful. I am delighted that you have discovered the most versatile singer living today. If you continue to react to her many performances, and I hope you do, you are in for many pleasurable hours of excellent performances and your life will be changed for ever. I have listened to everything she has published on KZfaq and have often been surprised at her versatility - she can sing Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz, Pop, R&B and Soul, and Rock Listening to Angelina perform is an emotional experience in itself. In an imaginative moment I likened her to a chameleon, inasmuch as a chameleon adapts its colour to blend with the surroundings, so Angelina adapts the "colour" of her voice to convey the emotions of the song and communicate those emotions to the listener. In the six years she has been singing publicly she has covered Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Lana del Ray, Gloria Gaynor, Elvis Priestly, Louis Armstrong and many others. She takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. She never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". She just sings the song as she feels it is meant to be sung. In life she is a very shy and humble girl. On stage she is transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing. I follow a number of young singers through KZfaq and do so because their singing appeals to my emotions but good as they are and as much as I admire them, there is not one of them who can match Angelina's sheer ability and artistry in being able to sing so many musical genre in what appears to be an effortless manner, In an effort to get you started on you journey of discovery, I list a few songs of Angelina singing from the age of 7 to the present day. Be aware this is only a small selection of the 126 videos she has on KZfaq but will give you a glimmering of how multi-talented she is. age 7 - Norways Got Talent Gloomy Sunday: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/btdngNSVq9XNkn0.html (First audition) age 7 - Norway’s Got Talent: I’m a fool to want you kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gr6boa-LqdW2hoU.html ( A capella - Judges' cut off) age 7 - Norways Got Talent - Bang Bang: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbl1gpZ6srzYc30.html (Semi Final) age 8 - Norways Got Talent - Summertime: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/appjo6WE1d6Zcmg.html (Final) age 9 - I put a spell on you kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pN12n9J0tb7ec6c.html (This is the one most reactors start with) age 10 - Every time we say goodbye: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gbiDfJt50rqsenU.html (Pure jazz) age 12 - Wicked Game: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jJZ5gNRll5bdgA.html (Chris Isaac cover - Gut wrenchingly emotional) age 12 - A Million years ago: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h658p72CmNmtp3k.html (Adele cover) age 13 - I have nothing kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bLR6qZNj1NqZmps.html (Whitney Houston cover) age 13 - The Show Must Go On: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bLR6qZNj1NqZmps.html (Queen cover) Age 13 - Someone Like You - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i9mSlbhqybmmf6M.html (Adele cover) I'd better stop there, or I'll find myself listing the whole lot.

I came across this and was flabbergasted about your persistent allegations Angelina has a vocal chord issue. Angelina has sang this way since she debuted on Norway's Got talent, opening with a Billie Holiday cover - Gloomy Sunday) and performing an Acappella version of "I'm a fool to want you "(full song here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gr6boa-LqdW2hoU.html). In her audition a Judge commented to the effect the girls sounds like she has been drinking whisky since the day she was born. Her voice has always carried both the fragility and power she displayed in the performance your were critiquing. The hiss you described is a tone she modulates at will, and to good effect. Make no mistake Angelina is no amateur, in fact she is probably one of, if not the best female vocalist alive at the moment and has no issues with her voice; the girl is born to sing.

Saw this reaction a while ago, and went back after seing your second AJ reaction. No need to say, it was much more informative to me (no Spanish) after the English subs came and gave me some enlightment. Very interesting and informative what you are saying about her voice. She was brought into the world of Jazz from an very early age. Although it was actually Whitney Houston (I'll always love you), that first caught her attention when she was not much older than a year. Through becoming an amazingly Young youtuber as well, she found the video of Whitney's powerful performance and the snowball began rolling. From there, she was soon introduced to the world of Jazz and as you so instantly discovered (like a wine taster) - Billy Holiday. Where it goes from now on, is anybody's guess. Many young stars have soon faded and met obstacles when growing up. There are many pitfalls, dangers & difficulties that need to be avoided and overcome if to succeed. Somehow though, I believe we are witnessing the first steps of someone truly great.

@@GladySaxCoaching Thank You for doing the subtitles. I know how much work there is involved, just not the translation, but also to transcribe spontaneous speech like this in to coherent text and then to sync it with the words. Great job. It's an interesting analysis You are doing, and You're absolutely right about Angelina having a jazz background. She grew up hearing her grandmothers jazz records while still in the crib, and started to sing along to songs she liked at about 1½ years old. A few years later she was fully hooked on jazz and didn't like to sing nursery rimes, she wanted to sing jazz, like on grandmas records. Her first presentation to a larger audience came when she was about 7½ and auditioned for Norway's Got Talent singing "Gloomy Sunday" and "I'm A Fool To Love You". She captured the the judges and all of Norway with her mature jazz interpretations and ultimately went on to win the competition. Since then she has continued to develop her singing and published a lot of songs on KZfaq. It's an interesting, but also scary, point you're raising with the inflamed vocal cords. I hope her current voice coach knows how to take care of it and gives her the proper advice. I'm not personally in a position to know who she's studying with, but from following her development over the years, I'm sure she's having proper schooling. I don't think she would be able to develop such an amazing breath control and figure out the details regarding voice placement without a proper vocal coach. Is it possible this inflammation comes from overworking her voice? I'm sure she's been practicing hours on end and done a ton of exercises to really nail this performance and impress the audience, not just judges, jury and the live audience, but also everyone watching the TV broadcast. It's been a dream of hears since 4-5 years old to become a "superstar". Let us hope she gets good advice on how to take care of her voice, because she has so much to give musically and it would be sad if her beautiful voice should be silenced. In my opinion she should be _listed as a cultural heritage_ and get special privileges :) The arrangement of the song for this performance is for the most her own work, and she's also published 3 original compositions she wrote at the age of 10-12. I would love to see You two doing a reaction to her performances at Norway's Got Talent when she was just 7-8 years old audition: *Gloomy Sunday* kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aMqRarFnpqrRaac.html judges cut: *I'm A Fool To Want You* _a capella_ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gr6boa-LqdW2hoU.html semifinal: *Bang Bang **_(I shot You down)_* kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fqmRd9ya1tmbh5s.html final: *Summertime* youtu.be/bnpFsCNKz

OK, now that I've heard your entire reaction (see my other comment here), I have more to say. It's interesting that you "lament" her "swollen" vocal chords. I'd be interested in seeing what you think about that as you listen to her other stuff. The next song you reacted to, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", is very similar to this one in terms of what she's doing with her voice (and the general arrangement of the song, in terms of dynamics [starting soft and breathy, building slowly to a sudden crescendo, then a quieter ending]), so I wouldn't be surprised if you have similar things to say about her voice in that one. (I'm about to find out.) But I don't think this particular vocal is typical of what she sounds like. Now, I am not an expert, so maybe you'll hear something similar in all of her vocals, but I think most regular people would say that she, in fact, has many different "voices" she uses in her many different covers. (Over 100 are available on KZfaq, in all kinds of contexts, ranging from informal "behind-the-scenes" type clips, to more fomal "home studio" recordings, to live-on-stage performances, to professional studio-produced tracks.) In particular, she can sound like Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Nancy Sinatra, Shirley Bassey, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Rihanna, and Lana Del Rey (among others). When she covers these artists, she doesn't do an _imitation_ of their voices, necessarily (although, in a few cases the similarities are quite uncanny), but she definitely channels the "feeling" of their vocal styles. For this reason, I suspect that you are reacting to something she is "putting on" for these AGT performances. But, like I said, I could be wrong since I am no vocal expert. I am not posting specific links because I think I will want to do that after hearing your second Angelina reaction. So, see you there…

I have known Gladys and Sax for over a decade. A year or so before Adele released her last album, Gladys told me: Adele is not going to last long; she is damaging her vocal chords because of the way she sings. And ever since, Adele has not dropped another album... I have read a few comments here stating that Angelina Jordan has has been singing that way since she was a little girl. The fact that she has been doing that, doesn't mean it is right. Everybody needs a little help, don't you think? If Adele damaged her vocal chords because of lack of guidance, then the same can happen to AJ.

I truly understand where you are coming from, and I get the concern. Furthermore it is really hard to know from a quick listen alone, how healthy her projection of her voice is. But I disagree that a breathy sound is unhealthy for the voice per se. The belty closed vowel sound can be just as damaging to the voice, or even more so. It has also a lot to do with the way you talk, and the general robustness of the instrument. However, and this is a concern. She is only 13, and her instrument is far from developed yet. It is very important to be careful at such a young age to not overdo the singing. She might, like so many great singers, risk getting nodules if she overdo her performances. Rest is just as important as practice. This is my take on it all.

No professional coach EVER interrupts the video or the singer BEFORE they have finished the song. Anyone who pays these people for lessons are being scammed.

M.G. N First of all thank you very much for watching our channel, your opinion is respectable, and because you have not met us, and have no idea who we are, allow me to present ourselves. I am Gladys Bermejo, born into a musical family in Mexico. My father, Guillermo Bermejo was founder of the three member group “Los Calavera”. He married my mother an Argentinean descendant. They lived in Argentina for 20 years, him being the Ambassador of Mexican music in Argentina. Once back in Mexico, all of my siblings and me are dedicated professional musicians. We all study at Berklee College of Music. My sister Mili, recently deceased, was a very highly recognized professor in Berklee, same college were I studied Film Scoring and Arrangement. I was the firts full scholarship in the history of Berklee College of Music for my singing voice, with teachers like Bob Stolof, Richard Evans and Bobby Mac Ferrein. I am a guitarist musician and a singer since the age of five. I work in a more personal level with the artists. I have developed throughout my long experience the rehabilitation of the vocal cords that have been burned due to reflux. I have achieved a 100% of their recovery from this and from being stunted by the misuse of their voice and also recovered from nodules. I work directly for TV Stations like Televisa, TV Azteca, Univision and Telemnundo. My husband Sax, to whom I have been married for 25 years, studied Communication and through my family got involved into the world of music, learning through my father and me the necessary techniques for teaching the correct use of the voice through speech therapy, and with his experience inside the same television networks, he has dedicated himself in developing artists in body language and non verbal communication, stage presence among many other tools that help an artist. This is how we have developed into Talent Development Coaching. We send you our greeting and if you require more information about us, do not doubt in writing to us.
